  1. Why either/or? It's not necessarily permanent ruination. Who knows, maybe he is done. I doubt it. What I don't doubt is that the way they used him early on played a significant role in his later problems. Because if Dusty ruined him, he ruined him. If he didn't, he didn't. I think it's asinine to say Dusty ruined him, but only for 3-5 years, then he'll be healthy and mowing people down again.
  2. These two statements are not mutually exclusive - it's certainly plausible (even probable) that Dusty's overuse contributed to Prior's injury problems, but that doesn't mean that Prior's value is only going to decline. Trading Prior is only a good idea if the right deal comes along, because unless we can be absolutely certain that he is completely and permanently ruined, what he can contribute to this team is of greater value than anything you're likely to get for him right now. He's been on and off injured since 2003 and declining in performance since then. If this continues, when will you be convinced? If it continues the rest of the year, and you decide he's ruined, everybody else may have reached that conclusion by then too. If you keep him in 2007, and it's still continuing, I highly doubt you will get anything of value for him. At some point you have to make a decision. Other teams aren't going to cater to you and let you wait a long time and still get something for him.
  3. What if people believe that Dusty helped cause his injuries, but that he can still be a very good pitcher with the right managerial staff in place? Maybe it's not a black and white thing? If he can still be a very good pitcher, he himself should be criticized for his performance when it's bad and praised when it's good.
  4. The only reasoning I could come up with is that he thinks if he starts using him in non-save situations a lot again, he thinks everyone will start complaining about that again. Given that, he probably views the current situation as the lesser of two evils because at least if Dempster gets hurt, people won't put it all on Dusty for overworking another pitcher. In his defense, I can see why he would think irrationally. People have been complaining about his overuse of both the starters and relievers since he got here. No matter what he does, it's wrong, and that sucks for him. How does any of this make sense? And how can you even attempt to defend Baker with this logic? Baker does not adjust what he does because fans get pissed at him. And why would using Dempster occasionally in non-save situations have to equal using him a lot in non-save situations? To go back to an earlier point you made about the young players, for Dusty, the amount of playing time he's giving to young guys this season is very extreme. Just look at his career. Like I said, he does things to extremes. His extremes might be a little different than other managers, but they are obvious nontheless. I never said he was doing the right thing in either circumstance. I'm just trying to figure out why he does what he does.
  5. Ok, so people say his non-accident injury problems and delining production since 2003 is Dusty's fault for overusing him three years ago. The same people say we shouldn't trade him. So, either Dusty ruined him and he's not the same anymore or that overuse isn't a reason for what he's doing anymore. If it's the first, even though it's not Prior's fault, we need to trade him because even though his value is bad now, it's not going to get back up to where it was because of what Dusty did to him in 2003. If it's the second, it's not Dusty's fault anymore. That's not to say Dusty didn't do anything wrong but that Prior has recovered from that wrong. In that case, I can see why people would want to keep him and see what happens.

  7. Omg....Dusty it's your job to make sure he gets enough work. arrrrrrgggghhhh. If you want to know why Dusty doesn't put Dempster in more in non-save situations, it's probably because everybody complained about him using him in non-save situations too much last year. Dusty does everything to extremes, which means he could do one thing, get reemed for it, then do the opposite and people are still mad at him. That's how he looks at things. Just FYI.
  8. He should be pitching Dempster more and putting in Neifi for Cedeno for defense in any game we have a late lead in. If he had just done one of those things, we would have won. Yesterday was an example of where I will blame Dusty for the loss because Dempster is rusty and Cedeno (right now, anyway), is a very inconsistent defender at SS. We have an excellent one in Neifi who could have easily replaced Cedeno as someone mentioned.
  9. Although this article is stating the obvious, it's correct. Whether or not the Cubs will follow it is another thing.
  10. This is what people have to remember when they say, "it doesn't matter if Dusty is fired now or after the season", or, "it doesn't matter if Dusty is fired if Hendry is still here." It does matter. Not only is he a bad manager for today, he is the worst possible manager to have in a season when you are out of it and have to find out things about kids who may or may not be able to fill roles next year. 2006 is done. They have to see what they have for 2007. Saying these guys had their chance and wasted it is the most ignorant thing you can say about young ballplayers. The only problem is Hendry thinks we are still in it. I'd imagine we actually have to get 70 or so losses (regardless of the date we reach that mark) for Hendry to admit failure and start making plans for next year.
  11. In 2004 LaTroy Hawkins blew 9 saves for a team that finished just 3 games out of a playoff spot. Dempster has blown 4 saves (if you extrapolate 8 or 9) for a team that's going to finish 20+ games out of first and make a run at the worst record in the league. Not much of a comparison if you ask me. i guess it's not if you're only comparing the blown save statistic. Only a couple of those were as a reliever, and those count too because it shows how Hawkins mastered the art of coming in and blowing a game no matter what the score or inning.
  12. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's over.
  13. Sounds very robotic. Must be a Tribume employee. My guess, would be Jim Hendry in disguise. Was he fat and squirly with jelly donut stains all over his shirt? That would be a clue.

I didn't hear about this. If he was getting too tired and quit, I change my mind completely about him. I wouldn't even consider drafting him in that case even though I was all for him for a long time. If he's that lazy, he would be a total waste. First time he had a stomach-ache, I think there was a possibility he ate some bad food. Second time he had a tweaked groin. Was this confirmed by a doctor or just his word?

  16. Dempster isn't even half way to being as bad as Latroy & Co. If he isn't traded this year and finishes the year like he's been pitching, I'm writing him off as a Borowski though.
  17. Do you really think someone as involved as Cuban would own three teams?
  18. I proposed this exact scenerio about two months ago. Why not?....other than having to see Hendry in uniform.
  19. 61, wow! He must have lived hard or something. I hope he gets well. Yes, he is like a supermarket tabloid when it comes to trade rumors, but I like to hear that stuff anyway. Get well soon. If things don't work out, at least he got to see the Red Sox win one.
  20. I'm half-convinced that Hendry is saying this all tongue-in-cheek. I'm half-convinced Hendry has a terrible meth addiction, and the only reason it's half is because he's still fat.
  21. Last month the band drowned out the protest on May 27. Maybe we should organize our own get-together protest?? Better yet our own band playing the same kind of music as the Cubs band but with added melodic anti-Cubs lyrics.
  22. Ortiz 2006 Overall .264 .374 .551 Runners on .298 .388 .583 RISP .279 .398 .523 Close and late .231 .286 .667 2003-2005 Overall .297 .383 .600 Runners on .309 .409 .575 RISP .328 .425 .555 Close and late .326 .408 .724 The fact that he walks much less and slugs much more in close and late situations is why I think he is a clutch hitter. He doesn't pass it on to the next guy. He swings, and when he hits the ball, he hits it so well that it justifies the lack of walks and in turn brings him a lot of clutch RBI.
  23. Well, that's all on Hendry. Just because someone tells you to jump off a bridge doesn't mean you do it. What if you hired that person to tell you to do it? And then, while brutally falling, hitting rocks and such on the way down you continue to sing his praises and insinuate that you would like to pay him more money for more years to come? I think you just agreed with me. Hendry is a moron, and IMO, a much bigger problem than Baker, although both need to go. Yes, I was further expounding on your point. I very much man crushed Hendry, but began to sour when I realized that his amazing moves were completely negated by his horrible ones. At that point, I became indifferent. However, now I realize that the finger pointing at Baker should go straight through him to Hendry and MacPhail. Although none of us have inside info as to the degree in which Baker influences Hendry's decision, but at the root of the matter, Hendry is letting him do it. A) by hiring him and rumoring his extension, and B) by simply allowing him to have an alleged influence roster construction. I think we all wish we had a GM that thought like us and sometimes Hendry is that guy, and that makes us forgive him. But I think, aside from all player acquisition, development, and so on, Hendry has done significant damage to the organization by handing the keys over to Dusty. And the infuriating part is that he is so bull-headed that he cannot realize his mistake and continues to support him implicitly. Dusty is a big reason why this organization is currently crippled and depending on how far his influence reaches down within the organization (I'm guessing it stops at Von Joshua), he could be crippling the team for years to come. But the big reason why Dusty was here, is here, and possibly could be here is Hendry. Hit it right on the head.
  24. Cubs lose 3-2. Z pitches complete game and gets a solo homer from each side of the plate. And the three runs are unearned.
  25. All I can say is at least the man is pitching. And for us Chicagoans, don't forget that U's got it!
