  1. That has to be worth a middle reliever. From my work, I've come to know that they're still in negotiations to rename the spring training Stadium as well as the "plaza" outside of the renovated Wrigley on the triangle property. They're packaging the two together. Numbers as of now are extremely high, so no one has been able to come to an agreement, including several Fortune 100 companies.
  2. You're telling me. I'm going. [expletive] this winter.
  3. I'm assuming it wasn't after you closed fist punched her in the face (allegedly)?
  4. Besides Chris Collins being a hell of a coach. Outside of Crawford, that roster is hot garbage. Offensively, maybe, although I don't think Demps has been garbage offensively this season. They have some pretty active defenders. Agreed, but, quite frankly, a large portion of just about any team's defensive intensity and effort are directly from coaching emphasis, and that is magnified on this NW team that isn't extremely athletic. They were 7-6 in the Non-Con including a loss to DePaul and some awful blowout losses in B1G play, but they have maintained effort. Good for them.

  6. I heard on the Score yesterday that in order to get a stay, the rooftops would have to pay some sort of fee plus be liable for the amount of revenue lost by not having the ad up if they were to lose the case. So if the lawsuit drags on for most of the baseball season and they rule in the Cubs favor, the rooftops would have to pay the Cubs millions. They would have to post it at the beginning of the litigation. If that's true, why not just start building the Jumbotron and really twist the knife?
  7. Those are some unbelievably great storylines on 5 of the 8 series if it were to hold: Pens/Wings, Bruins/Habs, Leafs/Rangers, Hawks/Canucks, Blues/Kings Also, potential 2nd round matchups of Hawks/Blues and Pens/Leafs
  8. Pirri recalled for the road trip. No corresponding move announced.
  9. Cubs applied for permits for sign in Right Field as a response to the rooftops lawsuit last week. http://www.suntimes.com/25218373-761/cubs-apply-for-permit-for-right-field-sign.html
  10. Bummer for you jersey. I kind-of think it is getting more interesting because the top guys were so well covered that there is a bit of a consensus. I really like getting opinions on the guys...oh lets say from 10-30 because those are the ones I haven't heard as much about and for me (not being a scout or wannabe scout) this is how I form my opinions on the rest of the guys in the system. What can I say, guess I need a real life. It just seems to me that every guy at this point has a, "well, that's nice but he's 25" or "he's been good but his stuff is unimpressive", or "he's got some upside but has not done anything yet", or "but he's probably still injured/handicapped/dying". There's not a guy on the list that I think has to be voted here. Which is fantastic because these guys used to be top 3 type prospects in the Cubs system. Fun that these discussions happen at 10 instead of 2 or 3 now.
  11. That would be ridiculously expensive, with having to buy not only the real estate but also the revenue streams attached to it. But also would provide the Cubs with additional revenue sources. There are 16 official Wrigley Rooftops. You're looking at, probably $200MM at least and that's at market value, not "we're trying to [expletive] you over because we hate each other" value. They'd financially probably be better off waiting until the contract runs out to do any renovations.
  12. If Baez is even 80% of Miguel Cabrera: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_RgdPozXw7e8/TUiI_Sx82GI/AAAAAAAAAuQ/-g976W9tj1o/s1600/south-park-i-just-came.jpg
  13. To be fair, Crawford has been extremely average since coming back and got a pretty much undeserved contract extension in the offseason. People were down on Crawford well before Raanta was involved. The gap presently and going forward is far greater between Cutler and McCown than Crawford and Raanta or really many other goalies in the NHL.
  14. We're a mess? I think there are a lot of teams that would like to be in the position the Cubs are in. A great minor league system and big TV dollars about to come in. we're a mess if you care in the slightest about winning games the next two years. And nothing is guaranteed with any of the minor league prospects. You could say the same thing, to a lesser extent, about Tanaka as well, I guess. Either way, losing out on the 1 FA that they actually put an effort into telling us to [expletive] off because he doesn't think we can win. Fun stuff.
  15. I kind of have, but not as much as I thought. I think it helps that unlike last year's brief season, we've had several games against the other Original 6 teams. It is kind of weird that we are like the estranged Original 6 team stuck all the way out in the Western Conference. Rocky and McDonough pointed that out when it was announced and while I was hesitant to believe it would make up for it I think it clearly has. Plus, home and homes with all three NY area teams gives me an opportunity to attend more games. Yeah, the new schedule is awesome. It's great to have games against all of the Eastern Conference teams home and away. Teams like the Penguins, Flyers, Capitals, in addition to the O6 teams are always fun. Yeah, you get the worthless games against the Florida teams and Carolina, but overall, it's great.
  16. Fuuuuuuuuck this. Guess we can root for him to suck now.
  17. Or he will come here and be terrible. :( I could live with that a hell of a lot easier. Which is funny, because him going elsewhere and being good is a better alternative for the Cubs than him coming here and being hurt or crappy. Yeah, was thinking the same. But at least they tried. It would give this season some intrigue and would help with my thoughts on ownership. Dumb, I know. Only becomes a real issue if it hamstrings them from making other moves in the future, which it could if the revenue streams don't get finalized.
  18. Or he will come here and be terrible. :( I could live with that a hell of a lot easier.
  19. I think they should make a conversion attempt mandatory for 1 or 2 points. Maybe 1 point from the 2 like it is now and the 2 pointer from the 5 or 7 yard line would make sense.
  20. I'm going on record that there's no way he picks the Cubs. It would all make too much sense. He'll go to the Yankees or Dodgers, dominate for 5-7 years and I'll hate every minute of it.
  21. I think it sucks. Block lettering? Really? I prefer the old "Cuba" style from the mid-90s.
  22. I have my first first date in 13 years tonight, and I wish I didn't so I could just stay home and refresh for Tanaka news. This is far sexier. Sounds like you need to convert Chili's to Chili's-To-Go. top notch Alright, alright, alright http://i.imgur.com/EtcKUqy.jpg
  23. Looking at wikipedia starting with the 2005-2006 season when the shootout started, it looks like the 08-09 Lightning and the 11-12 Panthers both had 18 OTL. Last year, however, the most was 10. Most other years there was at least 1 team in the teens and a few years there were several teams between 10 and 15.
  24. What? If given a choice to move to a place like LA or New York, athletes will rarely choose Chicago. It's why I think it's hilarious that the Bulls are actually trying to clear cap space to lure big time free agents again. It won't work. The last time a Chicago team was able to lure a big time free agent (Soriano), we had to blow every other team out of the water in terms of dollars and years. Peppers could be considered a major free agent, but I have no idea what his market was like. Marian Hossa Julius Peppers Alfonso Soriano Albert Belle Andre Dawson Moises Alou Adam Dunn George Bell Nikolai Khabibulin Not to mention all of the guys who have signed extensions: Sosa, Konerko, Buehrle, Jordan, Pippen, Rose, Deng, Wood, Lee, Ramirez, Zambrano, Toews, Kane, Sharp, Seabrook, Keith, Cutler, Urlacher, Briggs, Tillman All of those players signed with Chicago teams in the past 25 years. Probably pretty comparable to most big cities.
  25. Let's say it is 7/$150. The Cubs payroll would still be less than $100M this year. Really no excuse for the Cubs not to win the bidding war besides #poortomricketts
