  1. From second?! I don't think he will be a bust, though a decline is likely. However, he is not the right fit for the Cubs whatsoever. It makes no sense for this team to tie itself to an aging centerfielder who relies on speed with the thick Wrigley grass. It just doesn't make sense. As such, I expect him in blue pinstripes by December 15.
  2. Does this have any impact on Hendry re-signing Nomar? I mean, if Hendry was so intent on getting rid of the bad apples, it would stand to reason that he'd want superheros on the team.
  3. My impression of Damon as far as going and getting balls in CF is that he is pretty good. However, no substantiation is necessary with respect to his arm. Anyone arguing that Damon has even an average arm has never seen him throw. He is awful. Its not that it is inaccurate, it is that every relay from center field starts with a lob. His weak arm, and the corresponding negatives that it creates with respect to his defense, is indisputable.
  4. Ha ha. They lived with Bernie Williams for 15 years, and suddenly the throwing arm becomes a consideration. I'm not a Yankee devotee, but I thought Bernie used to be a very good fielder with a good arm. It was my understanding that an elbow injury has hampered him in recent years. Am I off base?
  5. I always thought gutless meant being a coward. In contrast, Farnsworth was dominate this year when called on. Furthermore, he was lights out as a closer. Granted, he threw one bad pitch that will likely define his season. But, people that want to do that are short sighted. The fact is, the Braves didn't lose because of Farnsworth. They still had their opportunities to win the game, but failed offensively on repeated occasions. Its like the Crucifxion of Bill Buckner. People skew things as they want to in order to support their point of find a scapegoat.
  6. You sound like Costanza trying to get Griffey and Bonds together in the Yankee outfield.
  7. At this point, back up the truck. The Cubs placed themselves in this position following a terrible approach to 2005. If they have to overpay, its nobody's fault but their own.
  8. What were Jeter & A-rod doing in Boston? :D Getting an annulment. LMAO!
  9. Age isn't the reason I don't want Damon. Although it plays a part. Damon's game is based largely on speed, and speed is a young man's game. Giles OBP/SLG game is much more adaptable to an aging body. But the main reason I would want Giles more than Damon is Giles blows him away in the production department. Absolutely. Further, why create a potential block in CF when it is one of the few prospect replacement positions the Cubs have? With upgrades at the corners (which would include a full season of Murton, at least) and retaining Nomar's offensive bat, Corey is fine for a year to see if he can straighten himself out. Of course, this is an impossibility because Baker and Hendry see the need for a speedy leadoff guy. Hence, they will target Damon, or Furcal, or Castillo, or Pierre, etc. None of which make the most sense considering what the Cubs have largely at their disposal vs. their defficiencies (Nomar, Cedeno, Patterson, Pie). That said, Damon's ridiculously weak OF arm is a detractor as well. Its just awful. By the end of a four year contract, he will likely have more juice on the ball if he tosses it underhand.
  10. If they start getting creamed, I expect you to run on the field and sweep Tori Holt's knee.
  11. I have Colts and Dolphins Ds for next week. In my league, you get points against, but also, the defense gets positive points for turnovers, scoring, etc. To date, the Colts have +33 points which is unheard of! No other defense has positive points. However, they play the Rams on Monday night in Indy. Of course, the Rams are #2 overall on offense. The Dolphins, on the other hand, play at Tampa Bay. The Dolphins are a respectable -18 for the year so far. Any thoughts which I should play?
  12. I love it. He's no Sojo. No, he sure isn't. And Matsui is no Paul O'Neill. 20 03 NYY 163 623 82 179 42 1 16 106 63 86 2 2 .287 .353 .435 .788 2004 NYY 162 584 109 174 34 2 31 108 88 103 3 0 .298 .390 .522 .912 2005 NYY 162 629 108 192 45 3 23 116 63 78 2 2 .305 .367 .496 .863 Total -- 487 1836 299 545 121 6 70 330 214 267 7 4 .297 .370 .484 .854 I'd do my best to live with them as Cubs, however.
  13. I remember earlier this year when so many people were writing off Helton. I still wish the Cubs would explore trading Lee for some bigtime OF help, and bring in Helton. Of course, that is dependant on getting proper value for Lee.
  14. What about the chick she left you for? :smirk:
  15. Uh, no. You're more like Enrique Wilson. Not here in any kind of serious capacity. Oo, Ooh, which player am I?? Rich Hill. Just as Dusty's approach with Hill, after a couple of outings, we've seen enough to know everything there is about you, yet you just keep hanging around.

  17. I was injured part of the season, and I mostly posted during the day. So blame day posting, not us. It's ok JC we all consider you the Jose Macias of this site. Come on. Macias wouldn't have any trouble with day posting. He is made for being up in the middle of the day. In addition, Macias was about the only one not injured on the team. I'm more of the Scott McClain type. Lots of thunder, but too often missing my mark.

  19. HE can go to Tampa then. Man, that would be perfect for Dusty. No expectation of winning. Established atmosphere of playing veterans over young guys. Nobody at the dome to boo his players or him. Close to big game fishing. What's not to like?
  20. Talk about a double-edged sword. That must be where HBO got the idea for Oz. Its like a threesome with Elle McPherson and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Elle McPherson? Wow...that's a blast from the past. Can Hendry call the agents for the available players now or does he have to wait until the X amount of days after the World Series? I know he can't talk to the players themselves until then. I don't know. An agent is an extension of the player. But, because agents represent multiple players, I don't know how you can necessarily police that kind of activity. If such contacts were impermissible but made nonetheless and were later revealed, it would certainly subject the club to sanctioning.
  21. This board is the best, whether in season or during the offseason. I also thank the mods, administrators, and Tim for their terrific work providing great insight and a largely troll-free experience.

  24. I got a kick out of this: I wonder if there is a history there? Anyway, it was disappointing to see Bruce pretty much concede the departure of Nomar and Walker. Since he is so close to the situation, I have to believe that those are the wishes of Cub management. This team is going to get massively revamped. I could easily see changes at 2B, SS, CF, RF, LF and C. More and more I am resolved that the Cubs will have Henry Blanco as the starting catcher next year.
