I don't believe so, even though he didn't play in 06, I believe his clock started after the 2005 season. One of the reasons I didn't keep him. I'm not so sure under the new exemption rule. This is the exact wording from the rules thread: I interpret this as meaning that since he missed the entire 2006 season it doesn't count, so his exemption years would be 2005, 2007, and 2008. Juan can confirm or correct my interpretation. I always was under the impression that the clock started following the first year a player loses his exemption. If I misinterpreted, oh well I guess... Exemptions are kind of like option years. You could use an option one year, but not the next. There's been several cases of players gaining an exemption year because of injury. Most have been pitchers, I believe. Anyway, the player must meet or exceed the thresholds lined out otherwise they do not use an exemption.
