  1. This must be her "Myspace" page referred to in the story. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=90051596
  2. The Cubs can't win it with only Zambrano. This is not a playoff team, I keep telling myself. This is baseball, however. The Cubs have been underacheiving ALL YEAR. You never know, but you have to realize that it is a pipe dream.
  3. I think the Trib likes us Louisiana kids. I got one in last year defending Steve Stone.
  4. I like watching the Mets. They gots them an nice offense. Plus, they have a few guys swinging our bats (Beltran, Reyes, etc.), so there is an interest. http://images16.fotki.com/v316/photos/4/41654/2548020/MARUCCIbats08022006013-vi.jpg
  5. Too bad Webb's season is probably over.
  6. If I were king for a day, Dusty and his entire coaching staff would be on the gallows. (not chris spier ofcourse) :) So the only person you would keep is the drunk? Hell, he probably has the best stories.
  7. The Cy Young award isn't handed out to the pitcher who you would want on the mound in a big game, it's handed out to the pitcher who pitched the best over the course of the whole season. So far, Webb and Carpenter have pitched better than Zambrano. I'm not saying I would pick either of those two over Z in a big game, but fact is they have pitched better than Z this year. Will they continue to? Who knows. But if the Cy Young was handed out today, Z would not win it. I can respect that analysis, but I wouldn't say that Zambrano would not win it. He is definately in the running, especially after winning 8 straight, with as many wins, and leading the NL in strikeouts.
  8. Does this mean Sweet Harold will be replacing that goon on the ESPN Mobile commercials?
  9. It's really all quite simple: who would you most like on the mound for you in the big game? I don't think many people would pick Webb over Zambrano. I don't think I can come up with anyone I would rather have starting for my team than El Toro.
  10. Z has to catch Webb before he can pull away from him. I'll put my money on Zambrano.
  11. Let's not forget how bad it was for Z in the first couple months. Also, his 8 straight wins are going to turn some heads. I like Z or Webb SO FAR. I'll bet Z pulls away in the second half.
  12. that must have been some hug. Looks like he forgot to mention that he wasn't wearing pants. Don't hate.
  13. Kruk and Reynolds often would get into arguements that would leave you feeling uncomfortable. I loved it. Steve Phillips is too predictable in his opinions. Probably why he is not a GM anymore. I'd love to see Steve Stone fill someone's shoes. This is clearly ESPN's loss. Reynolds has been great.
  14. ...Tejado, or Abreu. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/cs-060723rogers,1,4103722.column?coll=cs-cubs-utility Which one of the three would you rather have? What would it take to get one of them? Is this a bunch of Melarky? I don't disagree that a trade involving Aramis would necessarily be a bad idea. ARam would not be under the microscope as much in New York as Alex Rodriguez. The one thing that bothers me most about Ramirez is that he is relatively young, and pretty much has annual problems with his legs late in the season. That is not a good sign. Interesting article - probably because we are all hungry for some kind of change.
  15. Steve Decker - good call. May I add Doug Dascenzo? Sorry if Germans. Would Eric Anthony count? I think so.
  16. I agree. I don't know what the problem with him is, but dude can pitch when he is right. This IS getting ridiculous, though.
  17. ...pictures of todays game, Mark Prior is signing autographs for some fans.... "For some reason, people still want Mark Prior's autograph, so he obliges before the game." (Tribune Photo by Phil Velasquez) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/
  18. With Walker's career numbers against Clemens, I was surprised (not really) that he wasn't starting. That was a no-brainer to start a guy hitting .400 against the future HOFer. What I am wondering is how long is DLee going to stay in the 3-hole. Put him down in the order until he gets his stroke back. IMO, it ain't going to happen any time soon. If you notice, Lee is taking a very different swing these days - hence the lack of power. That wrist is giong to take some time to fully heal.
  19. Perhaps Neifi can take over as the full time 3rd base coach now?
  20. I love the way Dusty always claps his hands together before he takes the ball from the pitchers to make a change. It is beautiful. That is reason enough to sign him to a multi-year deal. It is hard to find a manger who can tank a team with a payroll around $100 mil.
  21. Quality product. I think it could be improved if you could get some footage of him jawing at Jim Edmonds....
  22. I think Cedeno is a pretty good SS. I just think he needs to be mentally reprogrammed as a hitter.
  23. Remember a few years back when Jim Thome, if I am not mistaken, ASKED Hendry to meet him to talk about the possibilities of him being a Cub? I realize that at the time he was an injury liability, but that is the kind of guy you want on your team. IMO, Hendry has done some great things for the Cubs - but the past offseason was a bust as far as being creative and getting some much needed power. Kudos for getting a good leadoff hitter in Pierre (which so far has been a flop despite his recent production). Kudos for putting a good bullpen out there. Hendry, IMO, should definately do some wheeling and dealing to clean out the big salaries that aren't producing. The coaching staff seems to be a joke, and the minor league system is proving that players are not getting solid fundamental training. Who is to blame?
  24. One thing I can tell you guys about Ryan Theriot - the dude came to Chicago ready to play ball. If Dusty gives that guy a chance, the very least he will see is a ballplayer who is going to get dirty and never help the pitcher out. He may not have power, but he is not going to be an easy out. Just a prediction....
