  1. I, for one, really enjoyed seeing Mr. Gene Zelasco.
  2. Trade for Manny.
  3. I haven't looked at the numbers, but it seems like the Cubs are not walking or getting on base as frequently as they were when the offense was clicking most of the first half. Seems like a very different offensive team right now.
  4. Whatever is wrong with him, I think it is past time for him to move into the bottom of the order. Why isn't DeRosa hitting in the 2 hole anyway?
  5. May his memory be eternal.
  6. Ummm, not trying to be a jerk - but the whole "fouling off 2-strike pitches" is a technique called "spoiling." Good hitters can do that.
  7. Well, whoever it is needs to be replaced because it didn't work last night with bases loaded and nobody out....
  8. I would probably rather have Beltran in CF than Soriano in LF. Not that it will ever happen, but Beltran is solid defensively at a tough position, plus he is going to hit. Who would you rather be paying $18 million a year. Doesn't matter, just sayin.
  9. Who would have thought that Ryan Dempster would have better stats than Carlos Zambrano at this point in the season?
  10. Who's the girl second from the left? I'm pretty sure that's the girl who got me & my buddies on the field last year. I'm pretty sure her name is Andrea Burke, the Senior Account Executive for the Marketing Department of the Cubs. Very nice and a hot.
  11. Call up Hoffpauir. He's coming up anyway. RHP Lineup SS Theriot RF Fukudome 1B Lee 3B Ramirez CA Soto CF Edmonds LF DeRosa 2B Fontenot LHP Lineup SS Theriot CF Johnson 1B Lee 3B Ramirez CA Soto RF Fukudome LF DeRosa 2B Cedeno
  12. I was waiting for your input b/c I always respect what you say for some reason. Do you really think Bob lacks that bad? I think he gives pretty good insight.
  13. That was good stuff. Would have liked to see: Jerome Walton Hector Villineuva Rick Sutcliff His Moises Alou was perfection.
  14. I really enjoyed Steve Stone, and hated it when he left. He never came across as a "know it all" to me, I learned a lot from his work growing up. Joe Morgan is what I would call a "know it all" and he has always been nerve-racking to an extent - nothing like the crew they use in Cincy now, but you know what I mean. Bob Brenly - I love. He really seems like the kind of guy you'd play a few holes of golf with and then go to the clubhouse and get wrecked with and talk baseball all night. I never thought I'd say this, but I love the team we have now and prefer it over all others. Steve Stone and Harry Caray just represent some great memories, and the torch has passed.
  15. Geo swings hard, and last night he should have had 2 home runs. Like Geo said - catching first and the hitting is a nice surprise. He is a hell of a catcher who happens to be one of the best bats on the team. I don't change a thing.
  16. Lineup against RHP: RF Fukudome SS Theriot 1B Lee 3B Ramirez LF Soriano CA Soto DH Hoffpauier 2B DeRosa CF Edmonds Lineup against LHP: CF Johnson SS Theriot 1B Lee 3B Ramirez LF Soriano CA Soto RF Fukudome 2B DeRosa DH Murton (call him up)
  17. It was pointed out on Baseball Tonight that Edmonds didn't get Spring Training this year. I'm considering that a reason for his slow start. I don't know if anyone noticed, but I think it was Edmonds 2nd game with the Cubs and he got banged up a little on a play at 2nd base. He pulled up his pants to get some dirt out or pull up his sock - and his lower leg was all black/blue. Looked like a pretty bad injury. Don't know if any of you have had torn ligaments, muscles, etc. to the point where you have that kind of bruising/discoloration - but it is not fun.
  18. I don't know about the arm comparison - Fukudome has a great arm, but Dawson had an absolute cannon. I can clearly remember some of his throws, and even though Fook's throws are strong and mostly accurate - I don't think they were at the level as Dawson's. I didn't see Dawson in his defensive prime, but if he won Gold Gloves patrolling CF in Montreal he must have been pretty good at covering ground. It was hard to watch him play RF in Wrigley towards the end.
  19. I hate that Pie may be low on confidence, but it happens to the best of them. It happened to Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron, and countless greats (and not-so-greats) in the game. I just don't think that every situation warrants a position handed to a player, whether he is a top prospect or not. Having said that, it is pretty obvious the Edmonds experiment is not working out - so I'd rather see Pie in there than JE right about now.
  20. Theriot has ripped a couple doubles down the LF line in the past few games, if I am not mistaken. I'm sure if he ends up the season with a batting average over .300, OB% over .350, 100+ runs scored, and 30-40 SB - the whole season will be labeled a fluke and Cedeno should still have been the starting SS. I think Theriot is the type of player who is going to benefit from a rest here and there, and Cedeno is going to get his AB's. That is a pretty good combo for SS, the way things are going so far.
  21. This is what happens when you give a man 18 million a year. If he farts, and it doesn't sound right, you have to alert the doc.
  22. I think maybe the whole "sitting Derrek Lee for a night" thing may have been a technique used by Piniella to get Lee upset and refocused on hitting? I think Piniella has done this type of thing before, and I think it is fairly entertaining. How does Lee respond? He disagrees with the notion that he needs a day off and rattles off 3 hits. Nice management.
  23. So USSoccer didn't know that the poster was SG's father and he explained that he was going to apologize. Case closed, and well handled USSoccer. I'm sure that you appreciate his excitement in his son's first ML win, and how we are glad he is here to share with the forum.
