  1. And signing Soriano was Hendry's MO? This seems to be a new Hendry I think he's going to Schmidt.
  2. Time will heal the Sammy wound. Eventually people will remember the good and forget the bad.
  3. Froeming is the worst because he is cocky prick who thinks he is more important then the game. C.B. Buckner is an up and comer for that award though.
  4. Years ago I got a hockey jersey with a player's name on the back of it. He was traded within a year. After that I decided to never put a players name on the back of a jersey, no matter what sport. Jersey's are pretty expensive so if your jersey is rendered unwearable it is not a good thing. Although if I found a good deal on a jersey with a Classic Cub (Santo, Sandberg,Banks) I would probably buy it.
  5. The thing about Kenny Williams is he takes gambles. With gambling if your bet pays off it's great. If it doesn't you look like an idiot. Recently some of his gambles payed off. That is why he looks good right now.
  6. well see in 4 years.... 4 years people!!!!!! :D Agreed, this issue should not even be thought about until after 3 years.
  7. Maddux wants 2 years and will get it from somebody. I hope the Cubs would not do that. He's just a guy you want to suceed. But the simple fact is that he's nothing more then a 4 or 5 starter. The Cubs have plenty of those, they need 2 and 3 type starters.
  8. It's one year people. Even if it was 5 years with no opt-out clause, he's probably getting similar dollars at 33 as he can get at 32.
  9. The option is for the last year of a 5 year contract, it is miles away from what the previous contract was.
  10. Maddux = Great Cub of the PAST.
  11. I can listen to Murph, I can't listen to North. North has the worst show I've ever heard. He doesn't talk sports, its ALL commercials. North actually makes me made when I hear his voice. Why he gets so much credit in the radio industry I'll just never understand. Agreed, I used to listen to WSCR in the morning on the ride to work. Not anymore. North is a jerk while Murph is just an idiot. Murph wins.
  12. The Cubs can do both, they can have the highest payroll and be able to spend what it takes to develop a good farm system. Look at the Dodgers, they've been better than the Cubs, have a high payroll, and still able to produce a productive farm w/out high picks. It's not an either/or type of situation, in the case of the Cubs it has been more of a case of neglect and moves/picks that didn't work out. The neglect comes from diminishing Latin America (until recently it appears) and nothing in the Pacific Rim (scouting professional Japanese Baseball is diff. than amateur scouting, IMO). You beat me to it. I don't see how buying players now, means we can't continue to develop our farm system. If nothing else it will prevent us from having to call up slightly above avg. prospects with great tools hoping to hit the lottery. This team doesn't seem to do a very good job in setting up prospects to succeed on the major league level. I never said we should not develop the farm system. In fact we should, but every player in the Farm System will not play in Wrigley 81 times a year or even have a cup of coffee in the Majors. In the Cubs organization as with other Major markets our development of players in the minors helps us more with getting proven commodities through trades. This should allow us to wait on guys the Cubs believe are the next big thing and not rush them to Chicago. While small market teams are trading away there proven commodities because they can't afford them. This principle also goes for top tier FA's.
  13. Teams like the Twins and Brewers build through there farm system because they have no other alternative. They can't afford the high dollar free agents. The Cubs have the cash to get these FA's. With a team like the Cubs many times you a going to trade your minor league assets to get quality players that can win now. The Cubs are not a team that should try to stink for 3 to 5 years so the kids can grow up. They are a big market team that can and SHOULD try to go all out to win a WS every year.
  14. No matter how stingy they are, the best hitter in franchise history (and that's saying something) deserves to have his number retired. With the organization's disposition toward Sammy, I doubt they will, and that's an absolute disgrace. In about 5 years they will think about it and in 10 years they will do it. Time heals wounds.
  15. This was the worst team in the NL last year. Does adding Soriano suddenly make the Cubs "a winner?" John Wooden said, "Don't mistake activity for achievement." Record wise the Cubs were the worst team but do you really think a healthy Cub team was the worst team. Middle of the pack yes, worst no.
  16. I like the move. I'm not crazy about the 8 year thing, but as many have stated I am holding judgement until we find out if the last 3 years will be options and what kind of option. Right now this probably gives the Cubs one of the top 3 lineups in the NL. What the Cubs need now is one or 2 SP.
  17. Especially if said catcher jacks an opposing players jaw. :D
  18. NO!!! There is not way baseball should have replay. Enough said.
  19. This game in IC is going to be epic. The crowd will be insane. I think Kirk has been holding back the first 4 games. Did anyone see how many fans were at the Friday Afternoon taping of the game day segment. That's a lot of people. Just imagine what Gameday will be like. Now imagine the actual game. I am so pumped. I'll be leaving for that game shortly so I need to remember to pace myself.
  20. If I would of picked Jim Thome instead of Tony Batistia, I would be in second to last place. Man do I stink.
  21. Or guys who aren't even in the Majors.
  22. Uh huh. How many D1 teams would love Lloyds career record. He is among the winningest active football coaches in NCAA Division I-A, has won five Big Ten titles, and brought Michigan its first national championship in 49 years. He has led the Wolverines to five Top Ten finishes in the last nine seasons. The Wolverines have played in three Rose Bowl game and one Orange Bowl game under his leadership. Say what you want about last year, but over his career he is a model of consitancy and almost every AD in the nation would love to have their football program 'underachieve' so much. ND ranked #1 or #3 whats the difference. They are going to lose to Michigan in the 3rd week of the year anyway. 8) Ever hear people say Lloyd Carr has done so little with so much. That is why Michigan is so dispespected. I am just waiting on the day when both UM and OSU have losing seasons. That will be funny.
  23. Watch out the Cubs are only 11 1/2 games back in the WC
  24. Good point. They beat the SEC champ in SEC country with a young team so they must be a little above average. That's one game, not a whole season.
