As long as Lee, Ramirez, Soriano and Barrett play full seasons, I can't think of any permutation among all the mentioned possibilities that could make the offense as bad as last year's. And I think everyone, including Floyd himself, knows he is at best a half time player. If they tried to play him the majority of the time, he'd break down. I'm not saying it would be very likely, it's just possible. If Floyd got 350 PA and had a 765 OPS, and Murton got the other 350 and had a 795, then the Cubs overall LF production would end up flat, or barely above 2006. Pie could easily be significantly worse than Pierre next year. Soriano could conceivably be no better than Jones last year. SS could be as bad, 2B could be the same. 1B is a mortal lock to be better, but the question is how much, and then, what happens at C and 3B. Both Barrett and Blanco had career years in 2006. If both regress a little and Ramirez misses a little time and/or takes a step back, the lineup could conceivably be worse. And none of those things is an outlandish statement either. I doubt that happens. I think they have all but guaranteed improvement. All I'm saying is depending on how the OF falls out, there's a chance they'd be as bad.
