  1. The Northwest division is going to make it really difficult for the Blackhawks to slip into a playoff spot. 5 teams, all with 17 wins, all between 35-37 points. There are 4-5 teams in the rest of the conference that the Hawks have little to no chance of catching (DET, NASH, ANA, SJ, DAL). They might have to rely on 3 Northwest teams failing, just to get a shot at the 8th spot.
  2. Its there. If you click on "Cubs" in the left-hand margin, its the 2nd article down. When I do that, the 2nd story is "stopgap CF". I did find it at the bottom, as the last headline under the "more headlines" topic. But seriously, what is tinyurl.com?
  3. Even though they wouldn't have to keep platooning him, the concern is that an old school guy like Piniella, who didn't have a problem keeping aging veterans on the field in Tampa, would keep trotting Floyd out there even if Murton is outplaying him. I don't have a problem with Floyd, because it can be used properly and effectively. The key, however, is cutting bait with Floyd if he's doing no better than Murton, and not simply putting him out there just because a RHP is on the mound. I don't think Floyd would have any effect on Pagan. Pagan's future probably depends on what happens with CF. If it's Pie, or some questionable CF, then Pagan probably stays as backup/defensive replacement/insurance. If they acquire a legit everyday CF, then Pagan may be the odd man out.
  4. you can tell Lions fans arent that brillant even cubs fans figured out that once you have gone and paid they dont care if you leave, they already have your money. But not the concessions money. They are leaving in the second half Well, I'm not saying the plan is genius.

  6. That's assuming the only option is to have Murton share time with somebody in LF. That might be the case in Hendry's eye, but in reality, it is not. But you are right, as far as Murton's playing time is concerned, it's much better he platoon with Floyd than Jones.
  7. I'm up for that. Something that is being forgotten is the Cubs don't have much RH bench help right now. They have a bunch of RH starters, but no bench threats (at least in terms of SLG). I'd like to see a RH version of Ward, at the very least.
  8. prepare to be jumped all over Why? I'm asking a question. Oh, that's right, its a message board. Never mind. I'm prepared. Looks like the preparation was all for naught.
  9. Are you referring to this thread, or the media? It's still early in the week. The Bears themselves weren't even practicing/game-planning for Sunday until today. Just in general. All of Monday and Tuesday was dominated by Tank talk. So far, it looks like everybody is ignoring the Lions game, from the team to the media to the fans. It's just a bit concerning.
  10. I'm not voting. I don't care about last week. I want the Bears to destroy the Lions this week. Hopefully they are over the Tank situation and focused on the task at hand. I haven't heard an ounce of talk about this Sunday's game.
  11. I'm convinced Murton is an everyday corner OFer, I'm not convinced he'll be a great everyday corner OFer. He is certainly capable of giving you more than adaquate production for the price everyday in LF.
  12. He's not as wild about Colvin as some people. My question is, other than Cubs employees, and maybe some groupies, who is wild about Colvin? That list is ugly.
  13. Sure, if that's a guarantee, but I don't buy it. I think Lilly/Marquis at 200 IP each would give you better years than Guzman/Marshall over 200 IP each. But that's MY opinion vs. yours... I really don't think Guzman or Marshall would have to do much to outpace Marquis 2005 and 2006 numbers. As Goony said, stable badness isn't worth much. I don't see how it pitching 200 bad innings is worth anything, 2006 definitely, but 2005? I think Guzman or Marshall would have to do a little more than you think to become a slightly above average pitcher in the league like Marquis was in 2005 (4.13 ERA, 103 ERA+). I think you're right, but I also think it's entirely possible for them to achieve that, either individually, or combined.
  14. At his best, I think he'd have a tough time even getting Cy Young consideration, let alone MVP. I'm just hoping Marquis can give the Cubs 200 innings of better than 4.50 ERA type pitching. But if we're really hoping, I'm hoping that Zambrano, Prior, Lilly, Hill, Guzman, Marshall and Miller make Marquis expendable and we're talking about the great young hitter we got in exchance for him in a deadline deal.
  15. I think it's because he's so anxious to get rid of Jones entirely.
  16. what is tinyurl.com? and how is it affiliated with the tribune? If you go to the trib's site, there is no mention of any floyd story.
  17. Marquis was about 6 innings from doing it. 5 runs immediately every game is quite extreme, and it's beyond the realm of this discussion. But a guy doesn't have to give up 5 to do a bad job. But if you pay a guy several million to be a 200 inning guy, it's going to take a lot of suckiness on his part, and a lot of good pitching by any potential replacement, to convince most managers to make the switch. Highly paid bad pitchers get more than their fair shot at racking up the innings.
  18. In and of itself, it's not worth anything. If all you do is pitch 200 innings, but pitch poorly, you aren't helping anything. Stability? Sure, but stable badness is not good. If you're giving 200 innings of averageness, that's a different story, that's a stability that can help. Aside from "giving the team a chance to win", it also could give the GM more comfort in making other trades, knowing he's not going to be scrounging for innings from starting pitchers. The White Sox won the WS in 2005 on the strength of 5 average-to-good pitchers throwing 200 quality innings (counting McCarthy/Hernandez as one guy). But they came back with the same staff the next year and won a lot fewer games. And the Cubs staff can't even compare with that Sox rotation. Basically, I think such pitchers are valued because they "give you a chance". But I don't think it's a very good chance. Relying on a collection of okay pitchers to pitch really well for 200 innings is hit-or-miss.
  19. ?? I'm lost Dreaming that Drew/Boston negotiations have stalled, and Hendry will get Drew on a one year make good offer.
  20. What does that even mean? They are a football team that has been in cruise control because of how thoroughly they dominated the conference this year. They haven't played at their peak in every game, but they've won 3 straight, and only 2 teams have won more consecutive games. They have the largest PF-PA differential in the league. They've beaten playoff contenders at home and on the road, have come from behind, blown teams out and everything in between. What are they? They are clearly the best team in the NFC, that's what they are.
  21. LMAO!             I don't follow that one, but the first name is Alex rather than Alez. Duran Duran Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand Just like that river twists across a dusty land And when she shines she really shows you all she can Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grand Her name is Rio she don't need to understand And I might find her if I'm looking like I can Oh Rio, Rio hear them shout across the land From mountains in the north down to the Rio Grande Do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do
  22. I doubt it. His defensive reputation will probably be enough to make most fans accept his crappiness, especially if he keeps the K totals low and doesn't bitch about the fans being better in LA. Not counting Jones, the early favorite has to be Dempster. Although a slow start by either Ramirez or Soriano could give them a shot. I'd have to go with Marquis, if he starts slow, they'll give him hell. That contract and season last year will be a poor mix to start slowly. Good point. I forgot he was on the team.

  24. He's a really nice player, but I'm not sure the Cubs are going to want to get involved with a 32-year old middle infielder who has already suffered serious injury problems throughout his career.
