    Agreed. There's a long season ahead. If he's legitimately injured, he should be healthy enough to contribute at some point. I still think this situation is fishy; Hendry and Piniella spoke with him a couple of days ago. I think they convinced him that needs more innings (they would also like to save him from the usually lower temps of early April). Wood going on the DL is the perfect answer to the short term bullpen issue. He also refused to speak to the media... Guzman is going to make the 25 man roster. I don't think there is any need to concoct a fake injury to justify a stint on teh DL to start the season. They can legitimately say he was hindered by his earlier injury and needs time to rehab.

    From the "Peter King still has not found his way out of Tomy Romo's pants" department: SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- There will be sexier stories than commissioner Roger Goodell tweaking the player-conduct policy at the annual NFL meetings here this week. Like the announcement this afternoon of the first two prime-time games of 2007 on NBC, including Eli Manning opening his second straight season on the first Sunday night game of the year, this time against Dallas. (My, how Tony Romo's star continues to rise.) So the fact that Dallas will be playing the Giants in the first Sunday night game of the year is a reflection of just how bright a star Tony Romo is, and has nothing to do with the fact that Giants/Dallas is always an overhyped event and networks go out of their way to get Dallas games on TV whenever possible? The biggest reason Romo's star is on the rise, if it even is on the rise, is because Peter King can't stop pimping the guy out to the nation.

    The contract makes it seem like they expect him to be a regular contributor to special teams, at least. I read somewhere else that he resigned with the Steelers? I dunno, nothing on Bears.com about him. Does anyone know for sure? It's not in the article that was linked, so I dunno where that came from... From a trib article: "The Bears also signed former Steelers safety Tyrone Carter to a three-year deal estimated at $2.4 million with a signing bonus of $280,000, according to ESPN."

    I'm sure he is a fan favorite like Scott Podsednik is a "fan favorite." Most reasonable fans probably loathe him. I know it's no good reason, but I think the biggest reason may be that he was pretty much their entire marketing strategy for a couple years. Everytime I saw a Cubs/Pirates game on extra innings, and it was the Pittsburgh feed, there would be countless ads about the great Jack Wilson.

    Where's the logic in this? He may or may not be a little banged up and that might lead him to spend the first week or two on the DL, so let's just get rid of him?

    I'm not sure it's as much a change by Angelo as it is Lovie asserting his newfound power in the organization. Scott was a pre-Lovie draft pick, Boone was also around before Lovie. The DT is relatively small. Another safety increases the chances that Mike Brown could be gone.

    Hell just froze over. He's was drawing walks just fine until Dusty got ahold of him. Really? He was basically a 20 BB a year guy prior to 2006.

    Any news here? I'm going to be away this weekend with limited internet access. I was hoping to set-up for the draft, but without knowing who is available it's hard. Are we going to delay the draft, or go ahead without those teams?

    The thing is, if they lose with this plan, the media will blame execution of the strategy, as opposed to the strategy itself, because they all love the theory that a manager can make things happen and win games. If they win one game with the help of pods/erstad doing little things, and a bunch more with the help of the sluggers and good pitching, they will credit the little things.

    excuse me? How am I a cheater? ease up there man. I was kidding. Sorry I guess I took it the wrong way. I meant no harm. My roster is listted as illegal, I'm assuming a lot are. I have some of the same questions as you. This is my first keeper league and I haven't devoted much time to it. My auto draft last year and my lack of familiarity with cbs, as well as a general lack of attention paid to the minors in recent years has left me a little short in the young keeper categories.

    That right there is biased. Since I came to the defense of somebody's ability to predict the Cubs finishing 5th, I'm going to take this as a pretty blatant attack at me. I don't see the Cubs offense being great this year. I see it being better, I see it being potent in stretches, and I see it having potential for greatness. But OBP, the single most important offensive stat, remains a problem. And that will likely be what keeps this talented lineup from being a truly great run scoring lineup. Call it poopooing if you want. I just don't see the point in getting worked up when somebody suggest the Cubs will be something besides great.

    Yeah, but you don't need to restrict it to one guy. I'm guessing a reliever could be included to sweeten the pot.

    Now that's a lineup I like to see. Somebody noted that Izturis's ABs are pretty low this spring. I think it's interesting that Ronny is in there.

    I might take that as well, only because there's a significant chance he'd be much worse. That still doesn't justify saying the man did his job. It's bad. Bad is not acceptable to me, especially not with a guy who signed for what he signed.

The expectations for a $21m investment should be significantly higher than the piss-poor numbers you're throwing up there to consider Marquis a success. Again, you're projecting *your* expectations for a guy with a 3/21 deal. I'd suggest that your expecations are not the same as the Cubs' expectations. So, what's your point? Just because the Cubs might be happy with crap doesn't justify the fans being satisfied with crap. Obviously Hendry has different standards of measuring the worth of players than I do. That doesn't mean a 170 inning season of 95 ERA+ pitching is anything remotedly close to acceptable for Marquis.
