  1. Well, this offseason is certainly going to be interesting. Unlike Hendry, who hasn't proven to have the ability to put together a championship caliber roster, Angelo has, and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm pretty happy with what the Bears have done since the Mikey fiasco. Things could go to heck pretty quickly on many fronts. But I'm not about to assume it does. It's no time to panic about the Bears.
  2. Which is odd to me since this core seems to be stuck in neutral in the land of mediocrity. I thought this team was supposed to be much better than a 6 seed.
  3. If every Cubs player repeated his best season's numbers, this team would win 100 games easily. The problem is always with the likelihood of such luck.
  4. How do you figure that? If he isn't convinced a new guy could make them a contender, he's obviously not convinced they are currently a contender. That's specious reasoning. If the price for the new guy were too high, adding the player wouldn't improve the team. That's not how he phrased it. He tried to make it look like Gasol wasn't even that much of a guarantee, no matter what the price was, and the fact that it was a high price just made it less of a reason to trade for him. It's basically sour grapes along the lines of "I didn't even really want it anyway".
  5. He's a weird guy.

  7. I don't see how any of that means he's more predisposed to success and moving up the ladder. Dallas just hired a purported QB guru. Wilson isn't going to get any credit if Romo does well. If Grossman gets better, people are going to credit the current coaches. Parcells will get all the Romo credit, along with some for Garrett.
  8. That would have to mean he isn't convinced his current team is a contender. Which it probably isn't, given their inability to distinguish themselves in a weak conference.
  9. I don't think it's that rare. Lots of lower tier coaches find better jobs elsewhere after team success. Is going from being the QB coach on a Super Bowl team to being the QB coach on the Cowboys a better job? When it pays more it is.

  11. The Bears coaching staff was quite raw, especially when it came to NFL experience, in Lovie's first year. Hardy Nickerson and another college DLine coach just means even less experience on the staff. I'm hoping they get somebody who can actually help with the QB position, but the fact of the matter is, the Turner/Grossman relationship is of far greater importance. The new QB coach won't make or break Rex.
  12. Has anyone affiliated with the team indicated anything like this? Rightly or wrongly, it seems like the club itself is feeling pretty good about having Izturis there. agreed. despite the feelings on this board to the contrary, very few if any winning teams have all star players at all 8 positions. if izturis can stay healthy, hit .250 and play excellent defense i think the cubs will be very happy with his production. with 4 potential .900 ops guys (5 if you include murton), i highly doubt a light hitting ss will keep this team from contending. Why is it that when ever anybody brings up the idea that Izturis (or anybody) could be a blackhole, people say you can't have 8 all stars? It's not about having 8 all stars, it's about not employing black holes. The people involved with the team haven't indicated SS is a huge problem, but they also never indicated Prior's health was a huge problem until after it already was. They are a rose colored glasses organization that thinks every player is likely to produce his best possible numbers. Just because they don't think he could be a problem does not mean that Izturis is not a problem. SS is a huge problem until somebody proves otherwise.
  13. I thought they said Marshall was hurting? That doesn't mean he won't be around next year barring a trade. You're right, I was thinking now in ought 7. Z still not in with the 08 guys quite yet though. you are correct, sir
  14. Yes, pre-free agency, much different times.
  15. Well, if anything like that happens, we won't know for a long time, so there's not much to talk about with Briggs now. I think the Bears end up signing him to a big deal. But you never know, especially with Drew Rosenhaus involved.
  16. It's been mentioned, and it happens every time. There's not much to discuss. They already used it. So they will either sign him for 2007, sign him longterm, or get a nice return via trade. Or the 4th option that happens to many franchised players-a long and drawn out holdout. I think Briggs will be more reasonable than that, but sometimes you never know. I wouldn't really call that a 4th option. It's something that might happen before one of those three things occurs, but it's not an outcome. Well, sometimes that either leads to trading him for much lesser value, or Briggs not showing up until week 10. What's the history of guys not showing up until week 10? Does it really happen? I could see him missing all of training camp, but don't really care about that. He's an experienced pro, and not a QB, so it really doesn't matter.

Well, I mention it because Saints fans are going through the same thing with Charles Grant. We franchised him and now he's going on every radio station he can find and bitching about it, saying stuff like he feels that the organization "spat in his face" Hell, I'd love to get spat in the face to the tune of 8.8 million a year. I don't believe Briggs has said much of anything. There's just been some "reports out of Briggs' camp are that he's not happy."

  20. Okay, now I'm more confused. I think his 2006 salary was modest, I wouldn't call it underpaid. It was low because 2B don't make much unless they are really good, and Walker isn't really good. He's okay, but replacable. And the fact that so many 2B make the minimum just shows how easy it is to find 2B, and thus, why the prices are so low.
  21. I thought they said Marshall was hurting? That doesn't mean he won't be around next year barring a trade.
  22. I wouldn't assume that. They determined he was healthy enough to take a risk, not necessarily "very healthy".
  23. I wonder how healthy he is? Healthy enough to keep his food down, so he doesn't have the flu.
  24. You're also assuming Clement is worth a crap by then, which is doubtful. His contract is done after 2007 though.
