  1. It's tough to get that Cubbie swagger to come through on film.
  2. AGREED! I would not want it by the lake though. Summer is summer, but in April and May I could use a few extra degrees. I always thought a ballpark off I-90 right before the O'Hare turnoff. Then you are right on the Jefferson Park-O'Hare Train, near the tollway as well. And you would actually have room for parking. Make it happen Trib! Baseball stadiums should not be built near highways. We don't need to replicate crap places like Philly, Miami and Shea with nothing around the stadium. Any new stadium has to be located within walking distance of multiple postgame options.
  3. I haven't been ticked off before now at anything personally. The homeplate signage was inevitable. The Bud Light bleachers, eh. The computer scoreboards around the park, yes, please. But this is needless and stupid. How is this anymore needless or stupid than anything else?
  4. I'm going to guess none. Hopefully he's on offense by next season.
  5. That's an interesting way of looking at Cubs' acquisitions. I think their results in the runs scored category over the past several years says a lot more about their ability to find good bats. Which is to say they are bad at it. Remember, they also acquired Burnitz, Nomar and Alou, letting all of them walk when their contracts expired as a result of inconsistent production.
  6. What about his 2006 can he not repeat? Im not saying he can't I just don't think he will. He is a great player and im rooting for him to get me wrong. I hope he does! I'm with you. Anything can happen. And nobody is saying he can't repeat, but the question isn't can't, it's what is likely.
  7. They both bat left handed. . For some reason, people keep talking about this Floyd/Jones platoon, and it doesn't make a lick of sense. The Cubs are a pretty RH dominant team, and they have been for years. But they've also been worse against LHP than RHP. I'd like to see another RH bat brough in to allow Jones to sit against LHP, because I'm pretty sure one of Floyd/Jones will always be in the lineup against LHP, and that's not good.
  8. For the most part, you're right. I'd like to see Mike Brown brought back but after his contract has been re-negotiated. I think D. Manning will make a step forward next season but I'd like to see one safety brought in all the same. I don't even think it has to be renegotiated, although it would be nice. It's not a killer cap number by any stretch, and should be able to fit easily under the cap.
  9. But Zambrano hasn't won many more games than Marquis over the past 3 years, so obviously he doesn't deserve much more money.
  10. I disagree. You don't think Hendry is competent enough to at least know that Z is going to need an extension soon when he was doing free agency this year? That's all Tim said, and that's a really harsh criticism of Hendry to say that he couldn't even factor in what he wanted to pay Z into his plan. I was just pointing out I don't think Hendry is competent enough, in general. It was a joke. I don't think he just reached for his wallet and didn't realize how little he had left.
  11. Why did Ramirez take about $3 mil less than he could have probably got? I guess he just loves the cubs more than Zammy $o$o. just because aramis ramirez took a hometown discount doesn't mean we should expect all other cubs to do it. I don't see how people can justify criticizing Zambrano for not giving a hometown discount, considering all he's done for the Cubs, when you have players like Soriano who obviously didn't offer a discount to come to Chicago. Zambrano has no obligation to settle for less than market value, moral, ethical or otherwise.
  12. Or trade them and get better players.
  13. Maybe there's a bias there, but I honestly think he's terrible. He's an obnoxious jerk who takes himself far too seriously, and he's just not good at describing the action, both in football and baseball. He's far more interested in being witty and cool than calling the game.
  14. I agree. I disagree. I don't think it's a matter of Hendry suddenly realizing he's running out of space. I would not be surprised, however, if the Tribune told him to ease back on the long-term committments to players, with ownership in such a state of flux. I really don't think he has much of an idea of what he's going to be able to spend in 2008, 2009, because he's not guaranteed to have a job then, nor is he guaranteed to have the same bosses. I believe the situation is one where Hendry is just trying to get Zambrano signed to the cheapest deal possible. There isn't the same level of anxiety regarding the timing as there would be with a free agent, because he's not a free agent.
  15. Because he was born and raised in Chicago, duh.
  16. If any deal goes down, Cabrera better end up on the Cubs.
  17. I could use some help.
  18. I think the "you don't trade an ace" talk is just conventional wisdom from a different time. The fact is aces switch teams. Very rare is the ace pitcher who comes up with one team and stays there forever. I'd much rather trade a guy than let him walk. And one ace doesn't make a team. If you can make a trade that makes the team better you'd be failing your team by refusing to trade your ace because there's an old mantra about never doing it.
  19. It seemed to me they wanted to keep the Colts in front of them and the missed tackles screwed up that strategy. Even without the missed tackles, that strategy hurt - Peyton took the stuff underneath all day and the defense was on the field way too long. The defense was on the field too long because of all the turnovers, not the strategy. The Bears have been a bend but don't break team all season. They've given up yards, but they relied on not giving up big plays and getting turnovers of their own. It would have worked if they didn't turn the ball over as often as they did.
  20. You know people are desperate for topics and itching for spring training when emergency catcher becomes the hot topic. This shouldn't have lasted past 3 posts.
  21. I would say not much. This is Lovie's defense. Rivera has added stuff, but I don't think they'd miss a step if Babich moved into the role or somebody else was brought on board. I actually think it would be harder to replace Turner, who, while not the greatest or most innovative offensive mind out there, has built some good Bears offenses over the years. I think it would be a mistake to go with an entirely new offensive scheme this offseason, unless you magically discover the greatest offensive mind in football.
  22. Great news. I'd like to see at least one free agent and one draftee added to the offensive line mix.
  23. Are you kidding? Career QB rating: Ben 87.9, Rex 72.4 Completion %: Ben 62.4, Rex 54.4 Yards per Attempt: Ben 8.25, Rex 6.66 TD/INT: Ben 52/43, Rex 27/26 You were right about one thing - statistically speaking, the comparison between them is a joke. I think 2006 Ben might be more of the norm than some would expect. It's not like he broke an ankle or something, he nearly died. That could have had a much bigger effect than most people thought.
  24. Oh I see, we are starting players based on their Cy Young voting. Lets pick up David Eckstein while we're at it, he's got a World Series MVP so I can't see how he can fail. I believe that was in response to somebody referring to Wade Miller as a guy who has been a Cy Young candidate in the past. If Wade comes back and performs, he might be good, but there's next to no way he'll be great. Prior could come back and be great, which is what he was before last year.
