No doubt. I want to hear about tomorrow, not how much you respect Dusty. This does not bode well for those who are hoping for big time changes by Hendry. It's as if he doesn't understand there needs to be changes, and that he's only reluctantly canning Dusty because he still thinks the previous plan was fine.

Hendry is weak minded. He is incapable of making a decision, sticking to it, and carrying it out. He was wishy washy on Baker all year, and now that he's finally gone, he doesn't have the balls to even speak of the rest of the staff. That's just absurd.

What would those be? I'm not asking that to disagree, I just dont know much about his in-game strategy. Personally, I fear he might be a little sac bunt happy, and far to willing to give away outs. But maybe that's just because he's the guy Baylor hit in the 2 hole with the specific job of sac bunting whenever possible. It could be guilt by association. I didn't watch enough Marlins games to know, but could some of that just have to do with the personnel that he had, or is it just his managerial philosophy? I have no idea, that's why it's just a fear, as opposed to how convinced I was that Baker was a mistake. I don't know enough about Joe's style, I just fear that he's an old school out giver and pitcher abuser.

That's cool. But I just don't see where this thinking means it's inappropriate for others to express doubt in the team. I mean you can express doubt, but some of these posters are just ripping into everything and anything right now. One fan posted in transactions that he heard on the radio Macphail resigned. He prefaced it with saying he hadn't seen it posted, but thought it was interesting. The second poster had to make a point or rolling his eyes and being all sarcastic. Why are we all turning on each other and everything cubs related. We had a really bad year. It looks like a lot of the factors that went into that are leaving. Let's enjoy that if only for one day. It's hard to enjoy taking out the trash. Especially if we don't know that it's not just going to get replaced with more trash. That's just my opinion. Oh I agree, if they do bring in Lou then yeah this meant nothing. But, I will cross that bridge when we get to it. Until then I am going to remain optimistic. That's fine, but I think you should allow those who don't feel optimistic to express that feeling. You can't force optimism. If you feel the team will let you down, there's nothing you can do about it. It's a feeling. Personally, I'm skeptical, and withholding judgement. I'm not sure they will screw it up but I'm not convinced they will do the right thing either. If you feel they will get it right, great. But if somebody feels like it'll be a disaster, they have the right to say so.

Dude give it a rest. Does every post have to be attacking the cubs? Yeah things are bad. But, hey thats why the allow trades and free agents. You really don't understand why there would be skepticism after this season? Yeah I do, but hey we all have said we need to clean house. Well in an hour two of three will be gone. They are at least doing what we all think needs to be done. It's not just cleaning house, what matters is who is brought in to occupy the house. Until I find out the answer to that question, I know I will remain skeptical.

And I have a hard time blaming those that don't believe that he will. I think he has made some good moves in the past and if he doesn't see the writing on the wall then he won't make it out of his contract. I really don't believe we are going to win next year at that great a clip without becoming the nl yankees and getting all the big free agents anyways. SO what is one more year when you have already waited 100? This sounds an awful lot like, "we're going to suck anyway, you shouldn't complain about it."

I think Jones attitude would depend on who the next manager is. Dusty gave him a chance to be an everyday player and didn't really sit him out when a lefty was starting so of course Jones liked that. Unless he's embarrassed by looking like crap vs lefties and would prefer to sit, which would artificially raise his numbers. -
LMAO. Surpassing expectations isn't anything to tout. we EXPECTED him to royally blow. he was royally average instead. Whoopee!!!! Only two RFers in the NL had a higher OPS than Jacque this year. He was hardly average. But that's okay, go ahead and bash him anyways. *sigh* Jacque isn't bad. His contract is. And this was started by someone stating that "everyone on this board" was wrong about him. Which it's too early to tell if that's the case. That's it. The Cubs needed a big time bat and settled for a mediocre one. That's the problem. Jacque is an okay 6th hitter. He's a nice role player on a team for which offense is not a problem. But the Cubs had big time offensive weaknesses. And all this doesn't even take into account that OBP-wise, he's not even mediocre, he's bad.

It's possible they will be favored in all 3 of those games, and likely that they will be favored in at least the first 2. Definitely a rough stretch, but it's still something they should handle well. -
Hendry probably would. He's the kind of guy who always dwells on what guys are capable of at their best, as opposed to what they are most likely to actually do. In his mind, a guy who hit .300 once in his career is a .300 hitter, even if he hits .265 the rest of the time. In that case, you just aren't seeing the "real player".

It's still too early to tell if it's time for optimism. Andy leaving is a good start, but when power is removed the important thing is filling that vacuum with better leadership, not just the next guy. Simply toppling a bad regime does not guarantee improvements. You have to fill the void with better leaders.

If this is true I do not understand the Francona thing at all. I'm not impressed with his knowledge of the game and if Hendry makes him the choice AND gives the Sox a very good prospect I'm going to go fishing a lot more in 2007 than I did in 2006. Isn't he and Dusty very similar? Might as well keep Dusty... Philly felt the need to go to Bowa after Francona, to toughen up the team. It would be odd if the Cubs replaced one laissez faire manager with another.

2 good years out of 8. Odds are 2007 and 2008 will be more in-line with the bad years.

I think 2002 was a career year, when he was 27. I think this was his second peak, and it's probably telling that it was below his true career year. In 6 of his 8 seasons he was considerably less productive than he was in 2002 and 2006. This is a pretty strong indication that he will not repeat his 2006 numbers. And one good year out of 3 would hardly be surprising.

If that happens, Gary Hughes would be the GM for the next year at least. Does anyone here really want that to happen? Well, then all the Gary Hughes apologists would finally shut up about how much of a great baseball guy he is and how much he deserves a GM job. At the expense of a lost season? I'd rather listen to the apologists. It could be a lost season either way. I'm not saying I want Hughes, not by any stretch. But if Dusty, Jim and Andy are all gone, I'm not convinced they will go with all in house hires anyway.

It's kind of funny that Dusty's best support is from guys saying "it's not all his fault". Guys are saying it's all been put on him, but the only way you can think that is if nobody was booing/complaining about the players and the front office. Dusty isn't getting all the blame. He's been the most visible target, but not the only target. But that's how leadership works. The leaders of a failing organization take the most heat.
