  1. Gruddy's picture in Gameday reminds me of Beaker from the Muppets. OK I'll shut up now.
  2. I would leave him in after a 9 pitch 7th. Me2
  3. Leadoff hit wasted. King is one chubby dude.
  4. You a doctor? No, but I play one on television. Seriously though, he's hurt and this teams medical staff has a history of making mistakes with young arms. Wood is an excellent pitcher when he's on, and very hittable when not. He needs to be 100% healthy to start. Baker and Hendry made a decision, with input from the medical staff for sure, to keep pitching Wood. I happen to disagree with it.
  5. Off topic....but......I'm sorry....this little karate dude cracks me up !!!!!!!! :ninja:
  6. This Cub fan agrees. I know....I know.....I swore off this team two weeks ago. BeerHere= a glutton for punishment
  7. This'll do it for me this year. I've had enough of this team. I don't care if it's the players, the manager, the front office, the fans or some combination of any of these. I''m as optimistic as anyone, but this is out of control. I'll talk to you guys when spring training approaches, or occasionally on the minors threads.
  8. BeerNotes from the Chiefs/Cougars game last night Billet was generally 90-91 with the fastball, didn't have great control of the breaking stuff. He tired in the 4th. The liner off the pitching hand sounded nasty. Garcia went to the mound to see if he was ok. They let him throw a couple and after the first one hit the screen I was saying "Take him out, his hand is numb." They let him stay in for a batter and took him out after the next guy. A couple runs scored that were charged to Billek. He seemed to be cruising along until the 4th. Harvey is a big kid. His homer was straight away center to the right of the batters eye. More of a line shot. It sounded like he didn't get all of it but he got enough as it landed two rows up. His double was crushed to center. Watching him play, he kinda reminds me of Andrew Jones as the game appears to be easy to him. On a double into the rf corner, he had a perfect throw to second on the fly. EPatt is the fastest guy I've ever seen. The box score says one SB, but he had two in the same inning. He's extremely quick. In the field is actions are smooth but footwork seems a little odd. He dove on a grounder to his left that he could have had standing up. He missed it and it looked like he misjudged it a little. Quick bat and he keeps his hands back on the breaking stuff well. Strikezone judgment could be improved but the ump had a varying zone all night. Bo FLowers has a looooooooong swing. Think CPatt from the right side. He struggled against the offspeed stuff and was behind the heat when he was ahead on the count. He looks like an excellent athlete and may need to shorten his swing IMO. Layden has a maximum effort delivery. For a relatively tall kid it was surprising to see him exert so much effort to hit 90 on the gun. His offspeed stuff had good movement, it looked like a curve but may have been the slurve. Flud looks like a ballplayer. He took an odd route on a deep fly to center but got everything he could. He bat is quick and he has good speed. Much like Patterson, he keeps his hands back on the offspeed stuff and has plenty of bat speed to catch up to the heat. He and Patterson at the top of the order are a good combination of OBP and speed. The Cougars had Granato's number as he was fooled all night. Oscar bernard has a very good arm. He threw out Pennington easily on a pitch out and his throws between innings were strong and accurate. He got a workout behind the plate though. 10-15 pitches were blocked in the dirt. Leslie (Cougar 3B) is brutal in the field. He had two errors on easy grounders and has awful footwork. He was ridden hard by the guys two rows behind me in his home park. Lots of Cubs fans at the ballpark although no one around me had heard of NSBB. We may have a few new posters.
  9. Looks like Billek is going for the Chiefs tonight.
  10. I'll be at the Cougars game tonight with the inlaws. And the Flyers game tomorrow. Woo!
  11. Mods -- my apologies for the language.
  12. Couldn't happen to a better guy IMO. Somewhere Ryno is laughing and his former wife, is being asked by some John paying $20 for a youknowwhat if she knew when she did him.
  13. Any word on velocity??
  14. I like high offense games, but the old-school pitchers duels are baseball to me. I love to see two guys go head to head. On a night when the heat index was touching 100, Carpenter and Z went at it. Very well pitched game, kudos to both. The ending sucked though.
  15. Agreed on all points. I thought the Rolen injury would kill their offense, it didn't. Now Sanders gets hurt and they call up Babe Rodriguez who's won two games for them in his first 10. A Pujols injury would hurt them, but he's been durable so far in his career. Gotta give them credit. Players in St. Louis just approach the game differently. They expect to win, they execute, they pitch well, they catch the ball, they win. I absolutely hate em. I could care less what happens against the white Sox, just beat st. louis. It's frustrating as hell.
  16. Probably not going to be the most popular topic tonight given the gut wrenching loss, but I'm going to be up for a while(see topic in rant). While watching the game tonight I was thinking about the card rotations of the past few years. Dave Duncan must be one heck of a pitching coach. It seems like they take old beaten up pitchers and they resurrect their career in St. Lou. Kile was awful in Colorado (as are a lot of pitchers) but he joins the cards and he's their ace and pitched like one. Morris is good as well. Suppan , not so much this year, but he was good last year. Williams was ok in San Diego and Toronto, but he becomes a horse as a cardinal. Look at Carpenter 1997 Tor 81.1 5.09 1998 Tor 177 4.37 1999 Tor 150.0 4.38 2000 Tor 175.1 6.26 2001 Tor 216.2 4.09 2002 Tor 73.1 5.28 2004 StL 182.0 3.46 2005 StL 147.1 2.26 I could probably pick a few failurs as well (Ankiel, Simontacchi, Stephensen etc) but the failure ratio has to be close to other teams. It seems like Duncan is very good at getting the best out of pitchers who already have good stuff, but just haven't figured out the art of pitching. I'm no tard fan, but I gotta give credit where it's due.
  17. Meh. Personal preference. For me , the finger hole is unnecessary. The glove is hard to close otherwise and if I'm at 1B and the SS throws hard, I wear a batting glove on that hand. The finger hole slows my ability to close the glove. If I play anywhere else, all fingers are in the glove, in their groove. Guys in college would put two fingers outside the glove. I never understood that.
  18. Probably not a good move by McClendon/Mesa there. In a 4 game series you're likely facing at least two of: Prior, Wood Zambrano and unless it's the last game in the series, you gotta expect a little payback from one of these hard throwers. Chin muzak to Bay tomorrow or Sunday.
  19. Who's watching the game? What did they say about Wood coming out so early? Please tell me he isn't hurt again.
  20. Who's watching the game? What did they say about Wood coming out so early? Please tell me he isn't hurt again.
  21. Ole Miss Cub-- I need to know where you found the pic in your sig file, I want to know the name/artist for it. I'd love to get that print in a large size and framed for my game room. If anyone knows where I can get a high quality (color) print of Wrigley, large size, day game (no lights), I'd appreciate it. I have autographed jerseys from Ernie, Ryno, Fergie and Dawson, if only Billy would sign his jerseys on the BACK like everyone else, I'd be happy. C'mon Billy!!!!!!!!!!!!! The artist is Norman Rockwell. My wife bought it for me a couple years ago and it's hanging on my living room wall.
