  1. i am suprised the ump called blanco out there.
  2. umpires give cardinals a run. wonderful!!!!
  3. tavarez didn't use enough illegal substances on that one
  4. I don't think the cubs are that bad fundamentally. In case you didn't notice, the cards have had some miscues this game as well....executing a suicide squeeze does not make your teem overall fundamentally good.
  5. a lucky AAAA player gets hurt. finally something actually goes wrong for the cardinals.
  6. so because walker isn't playing (he isn't even playing well right now..) this is the cardinals B lineup?????? this is their best lineup they can field right now with the injuries to pujols, rolen, sanders
  7. you just keep changing your argument every time you proved wrong lol
  8. Dusty going to the Don Baylor school of "cooling the hot hand". Someone please tell me why Hendry bothered calling up Cedeno, knowing Dusty's man-love for Neifi? Murton won't be starting against any RH anytime soon. Why not? Give him his shot. Stupid Dusty. Grrrr If this cubs organization had Barry Bonds as a young player, they would of traded him for some utility player and a mid-level prospect probably. Heck, Bobby Crosby would of been benched since he had a few bad months at the start of his career and likely would be gone too.
  9. Will a young position player ever succeed on this team while Baker is the manager? I highly doubt it. Murton is doing well, and still can't see consistent playing time.
  10. actually, players were just standing around until hernandez (I think thats his name) started talking again...then Farnsworth tackled Affeldt. I am guessing Affeldt was also talking smack (A few tigers said he was after the game) which is why Farnsworth went after him. I think it is silly to try to paint Farnsworth as a bad guy here, since the KC starter intentionally threw at a guys head, and then kept inciting things. True Farnsworth didn't handle it in the smartest way, but then again baseball's rules about fighting encourage stupid stuff like this to happen. I would much rather have Farnsworth on my team after what happened today than anyone even came close to standing up for Hernandez did
  11. Well one main difference I see between 2005 and 1998 is... In 1998, there is absolutely no way that the cubs make the playoffs without Sammy. In 2005, I think the cardinals still have a good chance of making the playoffs without Pujols.
  12. This is must have collectable for the true NSBB poster. What would you do with your Jim Edmonds Bobblehead? put eyeliner on it, then make it fall down when making routine catches?
  13. nice job farnsworth! that was sweet
  14. are you sure it isn't a .520 team, or a .480 team? I find it hard to believe this team was destined to win just as many as it lost.
  15. well, gotta love that strike zone on Derrek Lee. Below the knees? Strike. Above the letters? Strike. Hell if he had gotten beaned it would of been a strike.
  16. For pitching I would want Halladay over Wood and Sheets. Halladay, Schilling, Prior, Clemens, Oswalt.... On offense Bonds, Helton/Lee, Young/Kent/Roberts, Jeter, Nomar, Rolen, Teixura, Blalock, Edmonds, Damon, Andruw Jones.... it will be far from a given for the dominicans.
  17. So Arod was born in the USA, raised in the USA, learned to play baseball in the USA, has gotten a fortune from playing baseball in the USA, but wants to represent a different country? Just more reason to hate the yankees.
  18. I think it was a very smart and classy move by Rolen not to play
  19. Clemens: 7 W Carpenter: 13 W What do the cardinals bullpen and hitting, and the astros bullpen and hitting have to do with roger clemens and chris carpenter's years as pitchers so far? It just doesn't make sense.
  20. I don't think that's how the players will view these games. I think they'll be played with passion. I think they'll be played to win. I understand your concerns about injuries but I think these players deserve the chance to represent their countries. And the prospect of a Japan, USA, Cuba, Dominica Republic/Venezuela final four has my head spinning. I agree with 1908. I am a big Hockey fan, and too most players and a lot of fans the World Championship or World Cup games mean a lot. Do soccer players only care about their club teams? That is what the MLB/NHL/NBA are. Club teams. In many many sports there is also an international stage, and players take pride in representing their country. If a guy gets hurt in these games, I am guessing that he was going to get hurt anyways.... pitcher injuries are wear and tear and are going to happen sooner or later. If its a freak injury like Nomar's this year, then there is nothing you can do about it, it could just as easily of come in ST.... And its every 4 years because all World Cup tournaments are every 4 years... I don't quite understand what that last line is meant for. I completely disagree with the idea that injuries are going to happen no matter what and there is nothing you can do about it. Futbol players care about the World Cup because the World Cup is a huge undertaking that has been around longer than many of the pro leagues. It's part of the futbol culture. These guys dreamed for their entire life to be a part of those teams. It's too late in the pro sports cycle to develop a new world cup and have it become such a great cultural phenomenom. If soccer didn't have it's world cup, and they decided to just invent one today, it would never become what it currently is in reality. Likewise, people comparing this tourny to soccer's world cup have to wake up to reality and realize this will be nothing like that. soccer has a lot of other huge international tournies like eurocup, or right now the gold cup in NA, and the players care about those as well. They also care about their under-21 and under-18 tournaments. Same goes for Hockey. Just because baseball doesn't have an international stage doesn't mean it somehow shouldn't or can't. Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, Track and Field, basketball... all these athletes manage to find time to take part in international competition. I honestly don't think baseball has some huge injury risk compared to these, in fact I would argue that it is far less and many of the most serious injuries in baseball are from long term overuse which this tournament won't have any large effect on. If PC are put in that concern will be basically gone The main thing is for a long time baseball was basically like football, in that is was almost entirely american so there could be no international stage. Now that the game is becoming more international, there is no reason to not have an international stage. IF baseball wants to become international they have to have tournaments like this, or it will not move up to the soccer/basketball/hockey (although hockey is limited by costs to mostly wealthy nations) level worldwide...

  22. Lets compare him to Carpenter Clemens: 1.48 ERA Carpenter: 2.51 ERA Clemens: 0.95 WHIP Carpenter: 1.07 WHIP Clemens: .188 BAA Carpenter: .225 BAA Carpenter has a slight edge in K/9 and K/BB. I would still start Clemens, mainly because he is the first pitcher in a long time to have an ERA this low this far into the season...
  23. Look at there stats before playing with Dusty and then after. Oh, are you arguing Tony ruined Ankiel? I'm not arguing this with you. It's your opinion that Dusty ruined them. That's fine, but again, that's all it is - your opinion. There is certainly no evidence after they left Dusty that they are All-Stars. I can at least point out the fact none of them have had "productive" careers. So your proof that Dusty helped Lee and Ramirez is that their stats got better. Truly groundbreaking. I didn't even get close to saying TLR ruined Ankiel. Again, your rebuttal is extremely weak and isn't really even a rebuttal, just trying to take something out of context. Ok your not arguing with me, I agree, you are picking a few things out of my post, putting them out of context, and repeating your argument rather than actually replying to what I said in any meaningful way. Yes it is my opinion. And your opinion is your opinion. Very well done!!!!!
  24. if i remember correctly sosa was better in several categories than mcgwire, including RBIs. Also, Sosa was a big part of why the cubs did so well. IF he wasn't on the team, no way they would of been in the playoffs. That is not the case with Pujols and St. Louis IMO
