    Meaning, I don't want to give the Phils guys like Baez and Almora to build on. edit: did not see the Almora/Candelario/Villanueva one. Sure, in that case, go for it. I was responding to the earlier idea of including Baez.

    So it seems like everyone kinda projects Bryant to RF if/when he moves off of 3rd, but I'd put big money on it actually being LF. I think once he makes that switch we will want it to be as seamless as possible and having him remaining on the same side of the field he's always played on, believe it or not, will cut down the adjustment period. His arm could play in RF - sure, but that's also where we've always played Soler, who I am hoping stays healthy enough to get a call up and win the spot going into next year.     So because a few guys are slumping, that means all prospects are overvalued, obviously.

    This. LOL at thinking Rizzo and Castro are OK with losing because they know about "the plan." LOL at thinking anyone anywhere said they were OK with losing.

    If Castro and Rizzo are pissed then it's probably directed at themselves or their agents for the awesome team-friendly deals they signed with a last place team... It's not like they signed those deals coming off the 2008 season here, or anything.

    This. The ones who are probably pissed are the ones who know the FO and fan base don't want them around next year.

    They'll get over it by next spring, but I imagine there are some really pissed off players in the Cubs' locker room right now. You mean at the FO right? Yes. Yeah, but as long as its not Rizzo, Castro or Arrieta, who gives a flying [expletive]? Guys who aren't in our future plans can be pissed off all they want as far as I'm concerned.

    That's pretty good, but even a Baez/Russell + Soler + Almora + Johnson/Edwards package seems like more than any other team could offer. And then there's still the risk he doesn't extend and hits FA. That'd be devastatingly crippling to our rebuild.

    Even if next year Bryant, Baez, Alcantara and maybe Soler come up and mash, get us into the playoff hunt and turn us into the hot young team a high priced FA could see fitting in and winning rings with for many years? If we are offering similar money as all the other teams, I'd like our chances based off our projected future.

    As I said before, I'd give them Baez and Russell. Maybe a guy like Maples or Black too. And I'm sure that'd be a great trade for us, I'd just hate doing it knowing we are still going to have to pay Stanton his contract anyway, and even then there's no guarantee the Yankees wouldn't come in and sign him away with a 40mil contract or something huge.

    I know this will probably get me booed off of the thread, but right now I would not want to trade for Stanton knowing how many chips it would take. I do want Stanton, I just would rather sign him as a FA when he's available. Option A: Trade Baez, Alcantara, Almora, CJ Edwards + more & pay Stanton 30 mil a year in a few years Option B: Play our prospects out the next few years & then pay Stanton 30 mil a year when he hits FA. I don't know Theo at all, and I imagine he covets Stanton as much as the next guy, but there's also a part of me that thinks he thinks he may have a group of players coming up soon that could one day rival a grouping like Jeter, Rivera, Posada, Williams, and that'd be more satisfying to him than selling most of them off for 1 guy.

    I don't think Castro gets moved, at least not for a couple more seasons. He's too valuable to our turnaround, whether that be next year or the year after. There's room for all of them.

    McKinney apparently has pretty good instincts in CF and can play there, but his athletic profile will likely have him end up in LF since he apparently doesn't have much of an arm. I might be misremembering this, but wasnt it from Moneyball where it was written that scouts could merely look at a player's face and know if he would be a great ball player some day, or some other hokey [expletive] used to describe Lenny Dykstra? Anyways, when I look at McKinney and apply this "logic", I don't see an elite baseball player. :beg: be wrong

    Pretty sure if he really wanted to play in the majors again he wouldn't have signed with a team that flat out said he "is not and will not be a fit on the major league roster"
