  1. I like to this of this job as a dream job, I just wonder if Rosenthal isn't overstating a little how much allure it has to GMs of other teams. I don't think so. Huge market. Great sports town. Chance to make history. And, above all else, very deep pockets in a division full of teams who don't have that luxury. Should be an easy division to own if the team is run competently. Depends on how deep those pockets are. Friedman will think he fell into Scrooge McDuck's room full of gold coins if he took this job, but Cashman wouldn't.
  2. I can't freakin wait for hockey season to start. 6 weeks.

  4. I'll likely end up getting tickets to that one too. Can't beat Saturday night Blues-Hawks games. Are Blues tickets significantly cheaper than Hawks tickets? I was thinking about doing a blackhawks road trip this winter. My first thought was Minnesota or Columbus, but St. Louis might be better for the rivalry that Blues fans have with us and we sometimes reciprocate. They are, and the secondary market is typically pretty soft. For that Saturday night game, I'd anticipate a few thousand Hawks fans. There was one game during the cup year where I swear 1/3 of the arena was wearing red. I've been to a lot of Hawks games there, and for some reason that game was just insane. And the Hawks won.

  6. Picked up 2nd row seats right next to the hawks bench for the 2nd game of the year against Winnipeg. Pretty pumped about that as I haven't sat that close in years (the last time was at Chicago Stadium where I sat on the glass). Also picked up 300 level seats to that Saturday game against the Bruins and the 12/30 Wings game. Pretty happy with that. That's awesome. I'm passing on buying Hawks tickets right now because I'm going to be dropping several hundred for a pair to a game in Toronto in November. Those tickets are insanely expensive.
  7. OMG I've been really busy today and didn't hear until now. Awesome.
  8. He would just walk and, what, probably end up being a scouting guy somewhere else? He's not going to walk right into another GM job. I guess if he went to another organization the chance would be there to get promoted up to GM.
  9. That's what makes sense to me -- announce a mutually-agreed transition of Hendry from GM to a scouting role. It fits with him being on this tour of the minor league system with Ricketts.
  10. I wasn't aware of this, but apparently it was pretty well known up in Vancouver that he had suffered with mental health problems for quite awhile.
  11. Just got an e-mail from CSN that Z will be on CTL tonight. Should be interesting.
  12. Were there no SPs out there that would have beefed up the rotation so that maybe when injuries happened they wouldn't be so screwed? Aren't they cutting back the payroll significantly? Is that all part of the master plan or are they just pinching pennies? If they are saving up to spend this offseason, then that makes sense. I'll grant you that I'm reserving my full judgment to see what happens this offseason.
  13. I would be fine with Pujols if convinced the team wouldn't cry poor and blame the latter years of his contract for not spending on other players. It's pretty clear Ricketts has no intention of being the Red Sox or Yankees (or Phillies at this point), which is the real problem here. After all this losing, you buy this team in this market and you have an obligation to do what needs to be done. And thus far I'm not seeing it.
  14. CC seems like one of those guys that isn't far enough removed from his playing career (or isn't mature enough) to check his ego and give credit to certain guys. He just sounds petty.
  15. Wow, they traded Pence? He's on my fantasy team and I didn't even notice. Perhaps an indication of why my team isn't very good. Go Cubs!
  16. Organizational lack of impact bats in majors and minors Hole at 1b next year Tons of money coming off the books Two impact bat 1b on the market, with few major markets besides us needing them, both of them coming from major divisional rivals who would be in big trouble without them Those divisional rivals might be in even bigger trouble if they keep them and they eat up 1/4 of their payroll. I've said a few times: the Cards benefited tremendously from Pujols' underpaid, superstar years. Now let them suffer through his overpaid, decline years. I totally agree with you on Pujols. But that thinking doesn't extend at all to Fielder. This is the offseason for Ricketts to show that he cares about winning. Can Hendry the day after the season -- hell, he should already be thinking about a new GM -- and let that GM hire a new manager.
  17. Hawks' farm system ranks highly, at least according to some dude at ESPN: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/According-to-ESPN-the-NHL-franchises-with-dimme?urn=nhl-wp10561
  18. What else can be said. It shows that Angelo is 100% incompetent.
  19. He composed himself on 18 to get to the playoff, but it seems to be slipping away from Dufner now. I made that crack about the ratings, but this is some compelling golf despite the lack of big names.
  20. CBS has to be looking at this leaderboard and thinking WTF.
  21. I'd have definitely been cool with a 4th rounder for him. Without a doubt.
  22. Yeah that works.
  23. And now +4 through 11. Yeesh.
  24. Tiger is -3 through 5 and tied for the lead. Not that it means anything. Would really like to see him involved in a close one on Sunday.
