  1. The Bengals sent out a mass email: lol....silly Bengals. This sort of thing boxes in the players and no doubt pisses them off. It would piss me off.
  2. Agreed. I blame him too, though we really ought to be blaming Sharp for missing that (mostly) wide open net. Of everything that happened last season, that's probably the single moment I'll remember the longest.
  3. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/hockey/blackhawks/chi-exhawk-campoli-awarded-25m-in-arbitration-hearing-20110720,0,7462999.story On its face $2.5M isn't that bad for a guy like Campoli, but we don't need him at that price. Plus he wrecked our pwnage of Vancouver, and that would have been hard to forget.
  4. Yeah, and certainly they know that. But once you get beyond 5-6 years it starts to get risky and the money gets so huge. So now they have a couple year window to win with what is a pretty talented team. And if they don't, they likely start from scratch.
  5. We could do a lot worse than Montador-Lepisto for the last D pairing. I think you have those nailed, with O'Donnell as the 7th. I also agree on Kruger. I'd be shocked if he doesn't crack the opening roster on the one hand. But on the other, which of those 12 sits? The easy answer is Mayers, but he serves a purpose, regardless of whether or not some of you think it's a valid one. This is why they need to buy out Olesz. They already have too many forwards. This reminds me of managing my fantasy baseball team. I have a whole bunch of guys who if I dropped any would immediately be one of the top FAs on the waiver wire. But none of them are good enough to win me the championship. That's how I feel about Frolik, Stalberg, Bickell...
  6. I liked Darke's story about how when Morgan was younger her Dad promised her a Lexus if she scored a certain amount of goals. But yes, she's going to be quite the star.
  7. We may well miss Campbell a lot as Dexter says. But they had to get out of that contract for the long run, and overall, I'm in the camp that thinks this team is slightly better moving forward than it was last year. You can't discount the importance of the 4th line over the regular season. And there is no question the 4th line is going to be vastly better than it was. The keys to me are Frolik and Stalberg. So often last year it was watching the first line dazzle and almost score, and then watching three lines of [expletive] for a few minutes. The 2nd and 3rd lines must produce.
  8. http://espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/story/_/id/6773324/chicago-blackhawks-patrick-kane-surgery-fractured-wrist I wonder what he was doing. Sad to say, but my first instinct is that it was something stupid.
  9. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/hockey/blackhawks/chi-frolik-close-to-deal-with-blackhawks-20110715,0,7684454.story I don't like the speculation that the Lepisto signing means Campoli might not get done. That would be a bad swap. As to Frolik, he better get that first goal and the floodgates better open pretty early in the season. His performance with the Hawks last year did not justify that salary, but he is only 23.
  10. I read somewhere earlier that there was speculation Olesz might be bought out. We do appear to have two extra forwards when you factor in Smith. And I agree, it would be outrageous to banish him to the AHL just because we have a guy like Scott on a one-way contract.
  11. Stalberg is the Shawon Dunston of Hockey- has skills and sometimes shows them but is never as good as he should be. I was a sucker for Dunston, so I'm pulling for Stalberg. With Stalberg in the fold, hopefully that's another foot out the door for Scott. He's just so frustrating because of his electrifying speed, but he has hands of stone. Trouble is, I'm not sure that can be coached.
  12. Avoided arbitration with Stalberg: http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/news/story?id=6754766 Money seems about right. Hopefully he will show a more consistent effort next year.
  13. I know I'm a bit of a mouth breather sometimes when it comes to hockey, so perhaps I'm biased, but I don't think that's what Bowman is doing. It's not like he signed Tim McCracken. Like you said, Carcillo has some value if he can keep his head out of his ass. And Mayers is a gritty guy near the end of his rope but a solid 3rd/4th line guy.
  14. That's pretty funny.
  15. That's a damn good team on paper.
  16. I don't think that's out of line for him.
  17. Good for him. Really wish we had him back.
  18. Great owner, and funny: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/hockey/blackhawks/ct-spt-0703-wirtz-qa-blackhawks-chica20110702,0,4318079,full.story
  19. St. Louis hasn't done anything this week, short of keeping Oshie for another year. They have a good, young group of forwards. Not real high on their defensive group. I see them as a possible 8th seed contender IF they don't have injuries. On the other hand, Columbus has done quite a bit to get better. They aren't ready for much more than a toe-dip in the playoffs, but they are on the right track. Detroit will be fine. Right now, I'd peg the 8 playoff teams (not in this order) as Vancouver, Chicago, Detroit, San Jose, LA, Columbus, Calgary and St. Louis. As for the Panthers situation, Tallon had to spend money. I haven't looked, but I think he's gone quite a bit beyond just hitting that floor. Really upgraded their D. But I have to think that team is losing a ton of money, and it will only get worse unless that team has a great start and a deep playoff run. And I don't think anyone thinks that is likely, even with all the new faces.
  20. I agree. I think the fair question isn't whether they are better than the cup winning team, but whether they are better than last year, and by how much. This team will be a serious contender IF Keith, Seabrook and to a lesser extent, Hammer, return to their form of two years ago. It will probably surprise no one to hear this, but I love what Bowman did to rebuild the 4th line. Montador was a great pickup. If Lalonde is ready to be the 7th defenseman, this is a great way to work him in. Just over three months now until we get this thing started. Already can't wait.
  21. Wow. We weren't (hopefully) going to give him anywhere near that, so I'm glad we at least got a draft pick out of him.
  22. I'm fine with Kopecky going. If they weren't going to sign him, at least they got a pick for his rights. He's a frustrating guy. Too inconsistent with his effort level. Have to keep Campoli at this point. Stalberg, whatever. Speaking of inconsistent...
  23. I think one more year at $5.6M. God Tallon is/was an idiot.
  24. Hadn't been to the K in several years. I really like what they did with the renovations. Tons of Cub fans there tonight. Of course not much to cheer for. I thought the intro for Soria with the GnR playing was pretty cool.
  25. I heard about Brouwer last night, and that was surprising enough. Campbell too?! This makes perfect sense though. Tallon needed to spend cash to hit the new salary floor. I heard him interviewed on XM during the draft last night and he was talking about how they "needed" to spend some money. Here you go. Plus there's some justice in all this, obviously. Moving forward, Bowman is a player in everything now if he wants to be. Amazing how quickly he has managed to turn the cap situation around. Great work.
