  1. I see very, very, very little excitement. Only the die-hards are excited. The Blackhawks are easily #3 in my Cubs/Bears/Blackhawks fandom, and my excitement level is quite low. If you're in Jersey, then yes, you're probably not seeing much. Teams across the league are drawing thousands to open practices and scrimmages. Tickets are selling well. This has been a blip.
  2. They hardly ruined the season. I'll grant that I was going to flock back no matter what, but I see a lot of excitement around the league.
  3. Pro-rating the number of games being played, it would regularly be $98. So I think $50 is fair.
  4. I'd guess that a lot of the guys that didn't play during the lockout look like crap this week. Crawford looking terrible early may be better in the long run since it might force Stan Bowman to make a trade. The worst case scenario is that he looks ok but the Hawks still lose and the blame it on Kane somehow- or Bollig not being on the team. Yeah fine as long as he doesn't freak out this morning and call Gillis. I'd be fine with Thomas for a year if they could get him to play.
  5. OMFG please. There's not much that could make this story better at this point, but this would.
  6. Seriously they are good at crying.
  7. A Mormon fraud? Heavens to Betsy!
  8. This is fuckin hilarious.
  9. Apparently Crawford looks shitty in the scrimmage tonight. Awesome.
  10. My mind can't process this.
  11. Where are we getting that he's not a players' coach? The Allouettes WR who spoke earlier made it sound like that's exactly what he is.
  12. We let him go. Emery had to let him go after interviewing him for HC position and not giving it to him. I'm not so sure it's such a huge loss. Special team success relies as much on the emphasis placed on it by the people in charge as anything else. Toub was fortunate to work in an organization that did more for special teams work than the offense. Almost from the beginning they were drafting guys like Manning and Hester with a huge emphasis on their return ability instead of what they can do the rest of the time on the field. I'm with Goony on this one -- return men themselves play a huge role here. It's not surprising that good college returners are so often good NFL returners, and there seems to be a lot of false attribution with respect to Toub. Will Gould suddenly be a terrible kicker now that Toub is gone? Will our punting game suffer? Will Peppers be less likely to block a kick? I don't think so. Yeah I'm not arguing that point. I think ST will be fine.
  13. I don't know that we so much let Toub go as he was made a great offer by KC and he wanted to move on. So I don't blame Emery for Toub leaving.
  14. awesome. so we keep the good and get rid of the bad. Yeah I'm good with this. For the most part, the D wasn't broken.
  15. They don't have TV's up there. So he didn't ignore the NFL like I didn't ignore the NFL. Perfect.
  16. That pretty much sums up my feelings on this. Is Phil Emery the smartest guy in the room? Hope so.
  17. Okay then. Emery was going to live or die by the outcome of this hire anyway, I guess, but he really is now. Obviously I hope this guy is the next Bill Walsh. But I don't really buy that talk from Silver that he hasn't had his chance until now because the entire league is dumb.
  18. So Hester definitely can't handle it then, and Bennett would be doubtful too? Wait, is Bennett supposed to be not-smart? I figured he would be half-way playbook competent considering the Vanderbilt roots, but him not being smart makes more sense with him being inactive virtually his entire rookie year. He doesn't make it obvious as often on the field, like Hester or anytime he opens his mouth, like Hester, but I recall grumbling that Bennett wasn't picking up the playbook his first year, and since then there were more than a few instances of him screwing up routes.
  19. Chris Kuc‏@ChrisKuc The Carter Hutton on waivers is a procedural thing. Goaltender will be headed back to AHL Rockford.
  20. So Hester definitely can't handle it then, and Bennett would be doubtful too?
  21. gamecenter rules. 50 bucks is a discount on the monthly rate from last year too. it's also on pretty much every platform you can think of (ps3, xbox, pretty much every mobile device). if you have good internet, the high quality feed is like 2 steps short of HD and it is awesome. they have SOME server issues sometimes but it's not a common thing. happens 3-4 times a season and you might miss part of a game or two because of it if you watch every night. Thanks, I'm definitely leaning that way as I'm splitting my time between STL and KC these days, so Center Ice being tethered to my TV doesn't help me. But I was curious to know what the quality is. I'll be watching on either the ps3 or Apple TV.
  22. I agree, and I would be fine with giving him a shot over Emery. Emery is more expensive, but I think the new CBA doesn't allow contracts to be buried in the AHL, so I guess it doesn't matter where he plays for cap purposes. In other news, both Center Ice and Gamecenter are $50 for the season. I think that's fair. Now just need to decide if Gamecenter's quality is good enough. Anyone use it?
  23. Yeah, neither do I. I wonder if he needs to clear waivers in order to be called up. Which would beg the question of why he would be called up. Apparently we aren't alone in confusion: Tim Sassone ‏@TimSassone Wonder why Carter Hutton is on waivers. #Blackhawks
  24. Of course that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is these more "conventional" candidates have a track record of NFL success to look at and decide which best fits the Bears personnel and Emery's philosophy. With Trestman it seems more like a hunch.
  25. Like it or not I think Carcillo stays on the top line. And he did fairly well in that spot last year before getting hurt.
