If the trade wasn't leaked I bet the conversation between Demp and FO would have been something like: "Ryan we got a deal in place with Atlanta, they really want you to help them get into playoffs. They would like to know tomorrow so please discuss with your family tonight and let us know tomorrow." Discussion with family: Pros Might get into playoffs. Cons Atlanta is no Chicago Fans not as good Will be living out of hotel for a few months and be separated from family once school starts. No increase in pay, that is a tough call. If it wasnt leaked we wouldn't know til today anyway.

Makes me wonder if one of the players coming back to the Cubs was taken in the 2011 draft. In the old cba you couldn't trade a player until a year after his signing. I wonder if that has changed and can that player be included in a trade as a PTBNL. Any ideas?

The Nats are staying in the race and have said they will shut down Strasburg before the end of the year. I know our priority is pitching and they traded a lot to get Gio. Could Demp get us Rendon and a pitching prospect? Would Rendon interest us?

Matt Dominguez can't hit. If you could morph his defense with Vitters hit tool you might have a good 3rd baseman.

Anyone think Theo could spin Wood to SD in Rizzo deal? Since we don't have an abundance of young starters.

In some way I think Theo might push hard to get Prince signed before the Darvish announcement. Whether we win on Darvish or not, the amount of bids might get out and then Theo might not be able to use the we don't have much money argument. -
I don't think the Yankees would expect to acquire Garza without giving up Montero. Montero is there prized chip, but he doesn't have an everyday spot with them unless its DH. I doubt they want him to just be a DH. He is not good enough defensively to play catcher everyday. I guess they could try him in right, but if they had a chance to add Garza (who is AL East proven) they would do it.

If the Cubs decide that they want to spend their free agent money on pitching and fill 1st base and add depth via trading Garza. Do you prefer a package of: Moreland, Ogando and another spec (not a top 5) or Montero, Banuelos and others from the Yankees?

Garza has had a lot of success in the AL East, could Theo get Boston, NY and Toronto to bid against each other? What does Boston have that might be beneficial to us long term or did they blow their load to get AGon?

I would like to keep Garza if Theo thinks he can get the Cubs competitive enough this year to make a run at the division. If he thinks that he that can't make those kind of changes and hope to be competitive in 2013 then dealing Garza might be an option if you think you can obtain high level prospects that are close to MLB ready.

I read where the Yankees are focusing on pitching. I bet Cashman would love to get his hands on Garza. What do you think would be a good return? I like: 1. Jesus Montero (maybe future 1st baseman) #1 in Yankee system 2. Manny Banuelos LHP#3 in Yankee system 3. Adam Warren or Graham Stoneburner or David Phelps all RHP and just out of Yankee top 10. Does that return seems to be better than Archer, Lee, Guyer? and seem reasonable? Any other good trade candidates?

"A baseball source told ESPN that MLB officials have given the Cubs the OK to announce the deal Friday" Well with the way things have been going through this entire process this one will probably be accurate. I wish it said a MLB baseball source. I guess my 7 year old machine pitch player falls in the "a baseball source" catagory.

Rickets needs to hire the San Diego guy he and Theo wants for GM. Work out compensation with the Padres to set a comparison. Then he goes back and tells LL I will give you a similar deal and throw some extra cash your way. If an arbitrator or Selig gets involved a similar comp will already be established.

I bet Theo is getting really good at Angry Birds over the last week. Or maybe picking up some new things to try with the wife! I wonder if he is like George Costanza at the Play Now Company and banished to a closet?

Wow, Indians loaded up, maybe Shapiro might be a good choice for GM. They always seem to have a strong system. Raisin, would it be possible to post the info on #3 Clayton Blackburn? He is grad from my son's high school and I would like to see what is said about him. He had a great season. Thanks -
Very limited sample size, but they did shell out a nice bonus, so he must have some very nice tools to start with. Definitely will keep an eye on him. I like the fact that he is a switch hitter that has shown power from both sides. When was the last time we had someone like that in the system?
