  1. Thanks! Looks like a pretty good overall review.
  2. I saw where Baseball America has rated the 2009 Drafts. It is inside info, anyone know how the Cubs fared?
  3. I don't think Patterson and Pie were rushed. They had ample time in the minors and had success, but when players reach the majors they get pitched based on scouting reports. That doesn't occur much in the minors. The scouts found holes in their swings and the pitchers pitched to them. Unfortunately Pie and Patterson could not make the adjustment. Great tools, just not great hitters. Castro seems to have a chance to have more success than the other two. Two things good hitters consistently due is square the ball and stay inside it. I hear those things a lot about Castro. He seems to let the ball travel deep in the hitting zone. Appears many of his hits are up the middle and a little to the opposite field. My comparison in he will be a lot like Jeter. He will get a lot of hits to the right side. Seems he has a chance to develop some pop maybe in the 10-20 range. I would take having a young Jeter playing short for the Cubs in 2 years and playing there for many years after that.
  4. Nice little read on Sterlin Castro http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20091018&content_id=7487566&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  5. Analysis of Hak-Ju Lee. http://www.baseball-intellect.com/ I wanted to post this link to a site that does some video analysis. They just went pay, so I don't have the premium membership to summarize for you guys. Some may find it interesting.
  6. Anyone know which hand Cerda broke? If it was his left, I doubt they would want him behind the plate yet. More likely to re injure it catching hard throwing sometimes wild young pitchers. Or even if it was his right, then taking a foul tip off it.
  7. What happened to the Matt Cerda kid? He was a 4th round pick and looked good in his scouting video.
  8. How about Big Z for Beltran? The Mets need pitching, we have some. We need to get more athletic and the Mets have some outfield depth. Maybe a change of scenery will do both some good. Not sure how the salaries match up, may take some minor players to sweeten the pot for the team getting the larger contract. To me Z will never be a number 1. Just doesn't have the secondary pitches like a Carpenter or a Halladay. Maybe we could then make a push for a Halladay or Lachey.
  9. Castro getting some love on BaseballAmerica. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/
  10. Giants would get the claim before Rocks and Dodgers. Would you do Harden for the Giants lefty Sanchez?
  11. With picking that late, the Cubs should be towards the bottom. Since they signed all 10 I would say they got good value for their money. Considering a couple of those top picks were draft eligible sophomores and could have returned to school. Combine that with their Asian signings and I am very excited about the last couple drafts and free agent signings.
  12. In past years I have always enjoyed going to MLB Draft tracker and watching the scouting videos of the Cubs draft pics. This year MLB did not link videos on the Tracker. Does anyone know a good site to watch some scouting video of the 2009 Draft pics?
  13. After reading the thread so glad to see I am not the only one that wanted to see Fox catch. Hill needs a day off, day game after a night game and Wells doesn't exactly have electric stuff. Hope a media member asks Lou if he plans on giving Hill a breather and let Fox catch a game here and there.
  14. Here are some links to scouting reports and rankings by PG Crosscheckers. Good stuff. http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/draft/2009/Prospects1_50.pdf http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/draft/2009/Prospects50_100.pdf
  15. Good stuff, I hope people can add more!
  16. Watching Greg close is giving me flashbacks to when Dempster was closing!! That is not a particular comfortable feeling.
  17. Anyone else having trouble with MLB.tv?
  18. He sleeps with this! http://www.wagrankings.com/wag/profile/syndal-gorden/ I think you might see a lot of guys sporting the Gaudin.
  19. Not sure, soonercub. But you're right, what a great slate: http://houston.astros.mlb.com/hou/fan_f ... lassic.jsp If you have MLB.tv you can watch it! At the bottom of the link above.
  20. Anyone aware of any webcast of the Houston Classic today? Some good college baseball games today. Thanks
  21. Based on what they have displayed so far, I think Fontenot is a all around better hitter than Fukudome. Seems to have a lot more "pop" as well. I sure would want Fonty getting more at bats that Fukudome. against righty vs. Lefty Soriano Sori Fonty Miles/Johnson/Theriot ARam ARam Bradley Bradley DLee DLee Soto Soto Fukudome Miles/Johnson/Theriot Theriot Miles/Johnson/Theriot I will believe when I see it, but I don't think Lou moves Soriano any lower than 2, so just keep him at 1 hole. Remember when he was prepping for Roberts last year? Soriano was put in the 2 hole. I also think Lou will keep DLee 3rd and ARam 5th. It should be a fun Spring, wish they would all be in camp so we could get a feel for what he will do.
  22. I think Hoff would be a better all around player than Murton was in the outfield. Murton sure had his supporters on here.
  23. Hendry mentioned that he will continue to look for another pitcher. Other than Peavy who are some legitimate candidates? Will he look to unload some of our tradable players for a young pitcher approaching arbitration? ie. Greinke or a Type B free agent? Or will he give up their 31st draft pick for a Type A? If he can't get Peavy does he just try to swap Pie for Olsen and put Olsen as the 5th spot? Lets hear some ideas.
  24. Based on how Towers leaked information in Vegas and the around about scolding he got from Hendry I doubt we hear Tower say anything until......"Today we are announcing the trade of Jake Peavy to the Chicago Cubs."
