  1. Have you seen the numbers Huff put up last year? I don't want Huff near this team. Bad numbers last year, he's not that good defensively, and there are rumors of him being a really, really bad clubhouse guy. I'd almost rather have Jones or Encarnacion that Huff. I didn't know that he was a bad clubhouse guy. His numbers weren't great last year, but it was just one bad year. If he is a bad clubhouse guy then he definitely isn't worth it though. You can find guys who are good clubhouse guys with his stats.
  2. There is no way Furcal is worth more than 9 million a year. I see him as being slightly better than Jimmy Rollins and he got a 5 year 40 million dollar deal. Jimmy Rollins is also two years younger and he is just as good of a defensive player as Furcal. Rollins BA/OBP/OPS 2003 263/320/707 2004 289/348/803 2005 290/338/769 Furcal 2003 292/352/795 2004 279/344/758 2005 284/348/777 If I were the Cubs the most I'd give Furcal would be 4 years and 34 million. He is worth a half million more a year than Rollins. That is it.
  3. Whoa. jmajew; Let's not be saying things you don't mean. His average is just that...average....but the kid does get on base at a .350 clip over the course of his career. He has 20 homerun talent (RFK was just killer on power last yr) He doesn't run particularly well, but is by no means slow. IMO, Wilkerson would be a solid corner OF acquisiton, but by no means what I want him in CF. Wilkerson is much more then a "4 OFer" your implying. Wilkerson is an everyday player. And this is coming from a person, who is not that high on Wilkerson, but I would take him, in a heartbeat. I could live with Murton/Pierre/Wilkerson OF. What I said was a little bit off, I would agree. But my point is that Wilkerson does not a really good fit for this Cubs team. I think we can fill our 1-2 slots by going out and hopefully getting Furcal and Pierre or Lofton. Yes, Wilkerson would be an upgrade over the guys we had last year out there but I don't think he is a big enough upgrade. Wilkerson is not the ideal five hitter. I think we'd be better off going out and getting Bradley, Mench, or even Juan Encarnacion to to play right and bat fifth. Actually now that I think about it our ideal right fielder and fifth hitter would be Aubrey Huff. You could even bat him 4 because he is a a lefty.
  4. Wilkerson can also play first base. Which would also help solve the problem of finding a backup for Lee. I see him being a right fielder if not a bench player. Eventhough Wilkeron has a solid OBP he still isn't a good top of the order option. He doesn't have enough speed to bat leadoff and he strikes out too much to be bat second. His BB/K ratio is basically 3/5. You need a two hitter who will make a lot of contact so he can advance the runner. 147 Ks last year. Wilkerson also is ten times better against lefties than righties. He batted 296, with a OBP 390, and an OPS of 804 last year against lefties. Righties on the other hand he was 228, 335, 737. If anything this shows Wilkerson is no better than a platoon player. My point is Wilkerson is not the answer. He would be a great guy to have coming off the bench and giving guys a day off but thats it.
  5. I don't know why we would give up prospects for Pierre when we could go out and get Kenny Lofton. They are basically the same player. In fact over the past three years Pierre hasn't been that much better than Lofton, if at all. Loftons one bad year was the one he was with the Yankees too. Lofton BA/OBP/OPS 2003 296/352/802 2004 275/346/741 2005 335/392/812 Pierre 2003 305/361/734 2004 326/374/781 2005 276/325/680 Anyboyd else think Lofton is just as good of an option for one year? The only reason Hendry is going after Pierre is because it will look better to the media and fans if he trades for him instead of signing lofton.
  6. Maybe Hendry is thinking that he will get a one year fix in Right and then 07 have a starting OF of Murton, Pierre, and Pie. That seems to be like something Hendry would consider.
  7. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-051112cubs,1,7925414.story?coll=cs-home-headlines In this article Furcal's angent says that he never mentioned 50 million. He said he just talked about length of contract. He is looking for 5 or 6 years.
  8. This would be the only reason I think the Cubs should show any interest in Damon. If showing him interest will help to get Furcal to drop his asking price by a mil a year that'd be spectacular.
  9. Yeah that slipped... I apologize.
  10. There are plenty of cabs in Chicago. That still doesn't change the fact that he would be hungover for the games. The reason Farnsworth wasn't a stud in Chicago was because he was hungover all the time. I can see Furcal doing the same thing. With all that said if we can get Furcal for 4years at 36 million I would think about it, but there is no chance i'd go any higher.
  11. I say the Cubs tell Furcal to go sing a funny song himself. They shoudl trade for luis Castillo to play second and resign Nomar to play short. Then you go out and get Lofton to play center and hopefully get Bradley for Right. If Nomar gets hurt you just put in ronny cedeno and bat him 8th and bump everyone else up. Lofton Castillo Lee Aramis Nomar Bradley Barrett Murton The money we would save by not signing Furcal would allow us to sign an extra starter or to go out and get Bobby Howry, Octavio Dotel, or Scott Eyre for the pen. Plus I'm also worried that once Furcal gets the money he we will party too much here in Chicago. The guy already has two DUI's whats to say once he is making 10 mil a year he won't be out every night of the week partying.
  12. You need a centerfielder who can cover a lot of ground. The Cubs really need to be strong defensively up the middle. IMO Mench would be a solid RF. He is only turning 28 so he is just hitting his prime. I think you can expect him to have a pretty solid year this year, no matter where he plays.
  13. What I expect: SS Furcal RF Patterson 1b Lee 3b Ramirez C Barrett LF Murton 2b Perez CF Pie At least we can assume we'd have a pretty good defensive outfield.
  14. Bradley will probably get around 4 million next year. If thats the case Bradley is the guy we should go out and get to play RF. You hopefully sign Furcal to play short and then get Lofton as a stopgap in center until Pie is ready. Furcal Lofton Lee Ramirez Bradley Barrett Murton Cedeno Looks pretty solid to me and is an affordable lineup. Probably about 40 mil. That would leave us with enough money to go out and fill the holes in the pen and the bench.
  15. Anybody know how much Milton Bradley would make next year. This past year he made 2.5 mil. He seems like a reasonably priced option allowing us to sign another starter and work on the bullpen.
  16. Chad Tracy could be a possibility. He can play 3b, 1b, and either corner OF spots. Or you could trade for Aubrey Huff and play him in RF regulary but he can also play 3b or 1b. His defense may be bad but he can play them.
  17. Oh yeah. Would you take: Pierre Perez Lee ARam Matsui Murton Barrett Cedeno Over Furcal Pierre Lee ARam Mench Murton Barrett Perez In 2 shakes. The other good thing about Matsui possibly hitting the open market is that it might depress the bidding for Giles, with another top corner OF available. If the Cubs Matsui they would still go after Furcal but then go after a cheap option in center, like Lofton. Furcal (9 mil) Lofton (2 mil) Lee (8.5 mil) Matsui (11 mil) Ramirez (10.5 mil) Barrett (3.5 mil) Murton (.5 mil) Cedeno (.5 mil) Looks pretty damn good to me. It may be a bit expensive but our offense should clearly be one of the best in the NL.
  18. If Hideki Matsui does not sign with the Yankees by tonight the cubs need to make at a run at him to play RF. He is ideal. He is a lefty with power who can bat between Lee and Ramirez. Then hopefully you sign Furcal still and then sign Lofton to play center. You would let Pie start at least once a week for Lofton to help ensure he stays healthy. Furcal Lofton Lee Matsui Ramirez Barrett Murton Cedeno
  19. If you can get Damon for 3 years and between 24 and 27 million I think you need to take it and play him in left moving Murton to right. If the Cubs sign Damon to play left i think that would mean we would need to push to trade for Milton Bradley to play center and to add to bat fifth.
  20. I think the biggest story for the Cubs about this possible trade is that the Red Sox would no longer have a spot for Damon. The Red Sox would need to replace Manny's offensive production in LF. Moving Damon over there would make their offense worse. So Damon would have one less suitor making him more of a viable option for the Cubs. He may no longer be worth 10 million bucks a year.
  21. I don't know if what JeffH said is that far fetched. I mean the White Sox won't even deal with Scott Boras anymore. Having a good relation with agents probably does help in luring players to your team. If you are on good terms with the agent he may not take as much of a hard line stance. No way is Nefi worth 2.5 million per year. Who cares if people like him his OBP was below 300. I'd rather have Walker starting at second. Yes he doesn't have the best range, but actually last year was one of his best defensive years. Todd Walker has to be fuming right now. Hendry is treating him like crap and frankly if Hendry keeps treating players this way even the draw of playing at wrigley won't help us get the players we want.
  22. The Devil Rays have too many outfielders as it is. That is a good place to look for a potetial Outfielder. They have Crawford, Huff, Gomes, Baldelli, Delmon Young, and Joey Gaithright. Crawford and Young are definitely off the market but the other three are possibilities. The Cubs should really take a hard look at Baldelli. He can play any of the three OF spots, has speed, and has some pop to his bat. Since he was out all of last year with a torn ACL he is kind of on the outside looking in.
  23. Encarnacion wouldn't be the worst signing in the world for the Cubs. His stats will be similar to Burnitz's last year and will be better defensively. He definitely isn't ideal though. 5 years 47.5 millioin is a lot for Furcal. Doesn't that worry anyone else? I do like what the said about the Cubs looking at Jarrod Washburn. He would be a solid number 3 who will be around 200 innings.
  24. Murton was the reason the Cubs made that deal. They were just gonna trade for Orlando Cabrera.
