  1. Personally I think it's foolish to compete with things like that. If you do your job correctly things will take care of themselves. I would agree. That is why I have the utmost respect for this Marlins organization. They don't care about the immediate future. They care about the health of the franchise in the long run.
  2. If Angelos is foolish enough to compete with a team in the National league instead of his own division he should sell the team. He should have re-signed Ryan in the first place if he wanted to show the Wash/Balt area he wanted to win. I believe Angelos is that foolish. Since the Nats got there he has been complaining about them stealing his fans and his revenues. You honestly think he will risk alienating the fans he has by trading away Tejada? Angelos is one of the worst owners in baseball, if not the worst. True....Angelos is that foolish. Maybe he'll take a trip to Europe for the Holiday season and the GM can do his job the right way. :rendeer: That's all I'm asking for Christmas.

Angelos is one of the worst owners in baseball, if not the worst. How is his competing with the Nationals any different than the Cubs competing with the White Sox? The media around here is saying that the White Sox winning it all has put so much more pressure on the Cubs to go out and buy players and such.
  4. The smartest thing the Orioles could do is start rebuilding and that means trading away Tejada, Lopez, and Mora. If this happens though I feel awful for Jeff Conine. He just left the rebuilding Marlins to go to the Orioles. With that said I don't think Peter Angelos will allow them to rebuild right now. They have to do everything in their power to be competetive, with the Nationals already stealing some of their fans. I am going to reiterate my belief that the Orioles are going to have to get a quality Major Leaguer back in return for Tejada. I would just do the firesale but I can't fathom an organization like Baltimore doing that. I don't know how any could not want Tejada on their team. He is a heck of a ballplayer.
  5. The Orioles will not trade Tejada unless they get a proven major leaguer in return. I think in order to get a deal done with the Orioles a three team deal would need to take place. The best third partner I can think of is Oakland and the deal would need to look something like this. Oakland gets: Hill, Williams, Jay Gibbons Baltimore gets: Zito, Cedeno, Patterson Cubs get: Tejada Then assuming we trade those four for Tejada there is no way we will trade for any RF. We will have to hope Bradley is let walk on the 20th and if he isn't we are looking at Encarnacion, Jones, Sanders, or Wilson in RF. I'm actually a big fan of Encarnacion if he bats no higher than 6th. Pierre, Walker, Lee, Ramirez, Tejada, Encarnacion, Barrett, Murton. Edit: My point is this. The Cubs are not a good match. Hendry is going to have to get creative if he wants to land Tejada.
  6. I think i judge teams a bit differently. I look at what the teams goals were and who they got to fill them and at what price. I think the Mets filled all of their holes except middle relief. The Marlins did exactly what they set out to do. Trade away all of their high priced talent for young talent. I think they did a great job of that. The Pierre deal in my mind was a steal for them. They did this after the 97 season and won the World Series six years later. I think it is a pretty good model to follow. The Blue Jays I do not believe overpayed for Burnett. If Loaiza got 3 years 21 mil Burnett deserves 5/55. BJ Ryan they overpayed for but when you take into consideration how much the Cubs paid for Howry and Eyre it isnt that horrible of a deal. Granted I would have lambasted the Cubs if they made that deal. The Padres I think had a terrific offseason. Cameron is a perfect fit for that team. The Loretta trade was questionable but he is 34 years old and has been hurt a lot the past two years.
  7. What do you think we could get for him? Make a package that includes Shawn Green and Javier Vasguez? We'd of course have to give them more than Patterson. Maybe not if the Cubs take on those contracts. I'd rather have Vasquez and one of those OF young hitters and then sign Rondell White or trade for Bradley and call it an off season. Tracy and Vasguez would make my offseason.

  9. Top 5 right now: 1) Marlins 2) Blue Jays 3) Mets 4) Padres (getting back Giles and Hoffman at reduced rates crucial) 5) White Sox (Thome for 7 mil a year and Konerko for 12 and Mackowiak is an amazing super sub) Right now this Red Sox team isn't complete. They still have a disgruntled Manny and still haven't signed Damon. Assuming they solve both of these problems they will ned up being number 2. The Cubs I don't think will be able to crack the top 6, unless they somehow get Abreu, Dunn, or Tejada.
  10. If I were the Yankees I'd be praying that the Cubs trade us Corey Patterson to solve our CF needs.
  11. That was a great deal for the Red Sox. That filled their hole at first base, Lowell or Marte can move over there. If they keep Manny and Damon and then sign any of the shortstops on the market AGON 1 or 2. Look at that potential lineup: Damon, Loretta, Ortiz, Manny, Varitek, Lowell, Nixon, AGON 1 or 2, Marte. Scary, thats what that is. The Red Sox can afford to let Marte play up in the majors now, they aren't going to need a lot of production from him for at least two years.
  12. Realistic trade possibility? Orioles get: Zito Red Sox get: Tejada A's get: Marte and Nixon Then add in some prospects to even it out a bit, if needed.
  13. I really doubt Beckett is going to make 20+ starts next year. I do like dealing Renteria + 11M for Marte. Marte is going to be a freaking monster at Fenway. They would make the playoffs without Beckett. I think the reason they got him was so they could have two aces for the playoffs. I don't think any team in the AL would want to face a healthy Schilling and Beckett in the post season. When it comes to the Renteria trade, I am going to withhold judgement. If they trade Marte for Lugo I would consider that a horrible horrible trade. If they keep Marte though it is a heck of a deal for them. That guy is going to be a monster.
  14. I woud hold judgement on the Red Sox until the Manny situation is put to rest. If they are forced to trade him then see what they come up with. If they can fill that void then they deserve credit. What makes Shuerholz, Jocketty, and Beane so great is the fact that when they are forced to trade or lose their best players via free agency they are always able to fill the gaps.
  15. It doesn't bother me one bit. I fail to see how making a ridiculous contract even more ridiculus is a good thing. My sentiments exactly. I'm happy someone had enough common sense to say enough is enough.
  16. Neifi and Rubby. Depressing just depressing...It shouldn't be that easy to name someone else.
  17. I'm going to miss Macias. Who am I going to make fun of now?
  18. Vidro is way to expensive, makes like 7 mil a year and he is injury prone.
  19. Wow this is disappointing...I think the price for Bradley just went up a bit.
  20. Would Shea Hillenbrand be starting at third and Prince Fielder at first? If so what do they do with Bill Hall? No matter what I think it is a good deal for both teams.
  21. If that's the case, I hope Jim at least puts in a call. yeah he better...offer him 20 mil and see what he says. Clemens, Zambrano, Prior, Maddux, Wood. I'd love to see Clemens here just for the fact we can have two 300 game winners on the same team and the fact we'd have the best pitching staff ever.
  22. hmm Cubs get: Abreu Nationals get: Williams, Hill, and Patterson/Michaels Phillies get: Hernandez, Wilkerson + Cash from Cubs sry couldnt help it :) If we are making up some crazy deals why not: Cubs get: Bradley and Hudson Dodgers get: Soriano Rangers get: Walker, Patterson, a dodger prospect BlueJays get: Mench
  23. No. Zero chance Pierre plays LF. Zero chance Murton plays RF. Here is where I read it. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2223628 I didn't think it made all that much sense either, but i just wanted to throw it out there.
  24. Not sure if this has been posted yet, I don't feel like reading the entire thread, but I read somewhere if the Cubs get either Wilkerson or Bradley they would move Pierre to Left and put Murton in Right. I think they would do that to help hide the fact Pierre has one of the weakest arms in baseball. Does this make sense to any of you?
  25. If I were the Cubs I would just focus on getting Bradley without giving up Walker. Pierre, Walker, Lee, Bradley, Ramirez, Barrett, Murton, Cedeno would be a pretty solid lineup. All we would need then is possibly another starter and at least one more for the bench. I would call that a pretty solid offseason.
