  1. Cubs' fans are funny. And they sound like ducks!!
  2. We all knew Maddux would not net an impact player. Trading him for something redundant is stupid especially when that redundancy will cost around $5 next year and the GM is glowing at the thought of having him for a few years". $4.25
  3. Our defense wasn't bad. Our offense sucks. Hendry tried to improve the wrong thing once again. He needs pitching and offense now. In that order. He get's the off-season to improve this team offensively and pitchingly.
  4. Not if we miraculously get a new coaching staff next year that just happens to value OBP and teaches it inspite of what Hendry thinks. .
  5. why don't you post his number here so we can give him our thoughts. I believe there is some available storage space on my cell phone. 1-800-K-R-I-S-P-Y-K-R-E-M-E
  6. If I were king for a day, Dusty and his entire coaching staff would be on the gallows. (not chris spier ofcourse) :)
  7. I think those that are somewhat happy with this deal are happy for 2 reasons 1) Yes, a 711 OPS is not that great-but it's about average for a shortstop-average OBP, slightly below average slugging for a shortstop. Combine that with his great defense, and you have a pretty good shortstop. 2)If the choice at short is Izturis or Cedeno, Izturis is a much better player. He is better offensively, and much better defensively. He won't be nearly the hole that Cedeno has been in the lineup-so this is an upgrade in talent. Now we'll see if Hendry can find the offensive player to play at second to go with him. I'm sorry, but none of that is true. Izturis is bad. Defense doesn't make him good. Cedeno can and will get better, Izturis can't and won't (at least when compared to his 04). Why can't Izturis get better? Sorry I missed that magical memo all the Izzy naysayers were sent.
  8. His career OBP is .295. The last 2 years it's been .302. His highwater mark was .330 in 2004. If he could get back to that, while not great, it would be quite a turn around. And I'll add to that. In those years he was 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26. I realize alot of people like to point at minor league #'s (and Izzy's aren't very good). . But there are players who can improve their OBP as they approach their prime years. So I beleive since he was showing improvement up until his injury. If he is healthy he can get back on track to improving it toward .330 this year and next year. And I think CubColt agrees with me here. But we both have good points.
  9. There were plenty in front of Marmol. And look how that turned out.
  10. I actually like the move to 2b for Cedeno. For some reason it's look like to me that Cedeno would often take his OFFENSE to the defense, and his DEFENSE to his offense. IMO, by moving him to SS, I think we might, i said MIGHT, see a more relax Cedeno, and perhaps a more confident Cedeno, knowing he could play a easier position. Certainly an interesting hypothesis. And one I've never thought of before. :)
  11. This is getting old. Please stop. I've read enough of posts like this in the maddux/walker rant/trade threads. Please stop, it's hurting me. I mean this honestly and in peace. It's a game thread. It's not a place of peace to visit for positivity in a losing season. If and when the Cubs do have a winning season, it won't be a place of peace for negativity in a winning season. So we have that going for us. Which is nice. Game threads are here to share game info ahd yeah, to overreact when your eyeballs boil out of your head due to a really bad call. It happens. I understand. And the heat index joke was quite funny. I am just souring on the negative izturis talk. I mean there's a 60-page thread on how terrible he is. Neifi EARNED it. Let Izzy earn it first.
  12. This is getting old. Please stop. I've read enough of posts like this in the maddux/walker rant/trade threads. Please stop, it's hurting me. I mean this honestly and in peace. The solution is quite simple: Go to another message board. No. A better solution would be for guys here to stop moaning about Izturis and see what he can do for the Cubs the rest of the year. The easy solution is to moan and complain. I've done enough moaning for this year already. Now I'm ready to look foward to next year. Izturis is obviously part of that plan.

  14. He'll probably be with the team, but won't start. Last I heard on the radio is Dusty wants to "talk" with him, to see where he fits in. I think he mentioned taking practice to access where he is. So I think Dusty will run Neifi out there at SS while letting Cedeno get his first game in at 2B.
  15. This is a good post. I am in line with you. Lets get behind Izturis now and give him an opportunity to suceed before we run him out of town I don't think there's anyone here who wants Izturis to fail. They just realize he isn't that good a player and that Hendry turned down "a package of top-level prospects" for Cesar. I hear ya. But let's atleast give Izzy a chance to succeed. We're not going anywhere this year right? let's just all sit back, and enjoy our new player. Let's see if he is healthy and he can put up #'s closer to his 2004 year. He is only 26.
  16. Well I say he didn't overpay for them, no matter how much you want to think differently. Howry and Eyre were the 2 top middle releiver FA, period. And there were alot of teams that needed MR help. But anyway, those 2 are the last players I'd complain about on this team. It's guys like Neifi and Rusch that are truely hurting us. And I can admit Hendry was a dumb arse for doing that when any good team uses minor leaguers for those positions.
  17. QFT. Me too. But I still hold out hope in that we do have very good peices to add to. And that it wouldn't take but a great LF aquisition and 2 good SP to get us on the right track to compete in the NL Central. BTW what is QFT?
  18. And in 2005, we potentially could've had the best offensive middle infield with Nomar and Walker. Wasn't there an article on ESPN that said the Cubs could have one of the best offensive infields ever if they acquired Soriano? Yes. I drooled. With Soriano at 2B, and Garciaparra at SS, they would need to be the best offensive IF ever.
  19. Who ISN'T in sports journalism? Ugh. By saying idiot, I mean a real moron. So do I. There are intelligent writers. Downey happens to be a complete and utter moron. He sounds like a White Sox homer. What writers are you thinking of? Phil Rogers. Paul Sullivan. Mike Kiley. Rozner. etc. All morons. I can only think of two that I respect... Bruce Miles and Rob Neyer. There ya go. You just named 2.
  20. Geez, I remember why I soured on this place several months back. So much negativity. Izturis is 26. Before his injury had a .330 OBP. And before that, was a rookie. You are looking at his #'s when he was 21-22 yrs old? I for one am willing to give the guy a chance. I would like to see him the rest of the year and see what #'s he puts up for the cubs next year. I'll bet he'll get his OBP closer to .330 more then most of you think. And what part of Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, Micheal Barret, and Carlos lee can't make up for a stellar defensive SS with a .330 OBP?
  21. If that's going to be the infield, and you already have Jones for the OF...this team is going to be horrible offensively next season. Getting one more bat in either CF or LF isn't going to make this team a contender. I don't have any faith in Hendry. Considering he didn't trade Pierre, I can see him being brought back. And lo and behold, look forward to almost this exact same offense with maybe a bat in LF (Soriano or Lee). That is not going to be enough...not even close. I hope I'm wrong, and I'd love to eat crow if I am, but with Hendry in charge we will not make the playoffs. Well I'm picturing an offense next year were lee does not go down, and Pierre and Ramirez don't have super slumps like they did this year. I honestly beleive Ramirez is not going to repeat his down year next year. And you have to factor in those things too, along with adding carlos lee.
  22. That's funny because I could probably explain it to him in 100 words or less. You could do it Dr. Suess style: Dusty Baker is a cool cat. He made sure the young batters sat. Hendry did nothing about that. He cleared space for Glendon who's fat. =D> Please get hitters who can hit HR, BAM! Please get hitters with OBP, SLAM!! Please get hitters who walk, WHAM!! Please get hitters with slug, SAM I AM!!
  23. I just don't think it was possible to get Abreu here in a down year. Just doesn't seem likely to happen. Not saying it wouldn't happen. Anyway, as long as Jim focuses big time on offense in the outfeild and some SP. I am very happy with the infeild for next year. . Dlee, Cedeno, Izturis, Ramirez. Now atleast we can say. Ok the infeild is set. We have great D at 2B and SS. And now we can focus on getting our offense in the outfield. As where it should come from. Look, we've already got really good offense at 1B, 3B, and C. Let's wait and see what JH does for the OF in the offseason.
