  1. I still love the Cubs the team, but the organization is as classless as they come, and I'd love for someone to prove me wrong. The Marlins maybe? The Cubs are one of very few teams that are not angling to get tax payer money to pay. The think that frustrates me about the Cubs is poor management and reluctance to moneyball type stats.
  2. This would be my list of top FA's - not necessarily in this order - I probably missed a player or 2 DLee Aramis Soriano - I'm not a big fan but many teams will want him CLee Bonds Wood - if he has a good year he could be #1 Zito Contreras Pierre - hopefully- we need him to have a great season Huff Hunter Guillen Milton Castillo Dye Floyd
  3. What you don't think the Cubs will be playing any meaningful games this fall? I know if they do better than expected and have some and don't show them b/c of this network I will not be happy.
  4. Crisp is average in CF - Damon was great in CF other than having a terrible arm. I do like the trade for Boston b/c they really needed a CF and Crisp is a huge upgrade over what they had but IMO they downgraded defense in CF. You're right, they did downgrade. I was looking at the data for Crisp as a corner outfielder. I'm surprised that they are willing to go with an AGonz at short. I would think they'd be better off just starting Pedroia? They already have Cora who is very similar to AGonz so it suprises me also - I would give Pedroia the chance to win the job and use Cora if he didn't.

  6. I agree that it was poorly worded but wouldn't quotation marks be redundant in Q and A? I don't know how you can infer from that article that Walker is on the outs.
  7. I think Patterson is faster than either of them but doesn't use his speed as well. I am kinda of lukewarm on this trade - I don't mind who we gave up but I wish we had traded for Bradley, Wilkerson, or Rios instead. Pierre is a significant upgrade over what we had last year and hopefully he will rebound in a contract year and his trend of playing well in day games will continue. My hope he is our pest ala Eckstein for the Cards.
  8. I would be very happy(and suprised) if we do that well this offseason and I think it would be good enough for us to contend for the division. If we trade Cedeno we need to keep Walker though.
  9. I am so annoyed by this part of the story. Their infatuation with a stereotypical leadoff man is going to bite them in the butt. You can't build a team like this. You have to find players for each position in the field, then let them hit wherever is best. Find a team with quality from 1-8 and you'll be much better than a team that goes hard after leadoff and settles for mediocrity from 2, 5 and 6. Try to assemble the best catcher, first base, second base, third base, shortstop, leftfield, center field and rightfield you can find, then put them in the best order. Don't limit yourself to a spot you've already admitted is close to barren in terms of availability. Hendry and Baker have spoken at length about the complete lack of the "true leadoff hitter" in today's game. That lack of supply drives up price when met with high demand. The Cubs irrationally high demand is making it harder for them to find a guy. Go out and get the best hitters you can find at CF and RF, and don't worry about the order, you'll score more runs and win more games. At least they are considering Wilkerson who is not a speed guy. Speed is nice from a leadoff(or any) hitter but should considered well below OBP-K's
  10. I also deplore that type of behavior but since no charges were filed it really raises questions on what really happenned.
  11. The Indians traded him after Wedge took him out of a game for not running out a pop up - Wedge and Shapiro decided they did not want him around while they were rebuilding.
  12. Dealing w/ players is supposed to be a strength of Dusty's so I would get permission from the Dodgers to have Dusty talk w/ him and go from there. A player I would like for us to inquire about is Alexis Rios who the Jays were rumored to have offered to Texas for Mench. He does not hit for enough power currently for a corner spot but he could play CF for us.
  13. review of his preseason top 20 http://www.minorleagueball.com/story/2005/11/19/142150/79 list of top rule 5 prospects - not by sickels http://www.minorleagueball.com
  14. 3 years 11 mil w/ a player option for the 3rd year is bad enough - if it is 2 years 11 mil w/ a 3rd year option I don't know what I will do.
  15. found the answer - 120805 http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/schedule/important_dates.jsp
  16. When is the rule 5 draft this year?
  17. I read that 5 times and didn't understand what you were saying. But now that I read the first post I understand. Yeah at the Trop you can bring in your own food. Just not a case of beer!! Oh well. The Piniella years in Tampa will be looked upon as the turning point of this franchise. It's to bad he was here for the house cleaning but not the party yet to come. I predict a winning record next year for this team. sorry about that - I meant to reference the 1st post - They went 39-34 after the AS break last year, have great young talent, players to trade, better mgmt, and are upping the payroll a bit. I don't know if they will be able to contend this year but they might and I will be rooting for them.
  18. you can also take in your own food
  19. Unfortunately it is by Phillips and it is an insider article http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/columns/story?columnist=phillips_steve&id=2214093&CMP=ILC-INHEAD He has us getting Furcal and Giles.
  20. Cruz is someone I was interested in - I do like Bradley more though and this indicates the Dodgers are likely to trade or non tender him.
  21. It is a bad year but that is a poor ranking also - this is a much better ranking http://www.rotoauthority.com/2005/10/top_50_baseball_2.html
  22. I know Chacon was charged w/ assault b/c of a bar room fight a few years back but I on't remember anything about spousal abuse.
  23. I got about halfway thru this thread and just wanted to add my 2 cents. I did not see any dirt indicating the ball hit the ground but the ball did seem to bounce into the glove. I think the Ump should have indicated right away that there was no catch but Paul should have just tagged him anyway on a ball that close.
  24. The Yanks had to agree to waive him prior to nov 15th if they don't resign him 1st.
  25. Other than the money can you convince me why Millwood or any that were on conteders would want to come to the Cubs? this is for anybody, not just for Hoops Dusty
