  1. When it comes to pinch-framing, nobody will ever top Izturius:
  2. CODE RED
  3. I don't blame him at all; he seemed really frustrated the last couple of years. It's got to be tough to basically see everyone you played with part ways from the team and have to wade through multiple seasons of cellar-dwelling. Given all that, that's a perfectly diplomatic and understandable response.
  4. A bucket of hot onion gravy in the car.
  5. Tolerance rallies.
  6. Because then you only have one offensive black hole you have to tolerate in the lineup. Is there really a difference between a team playing with 2 black holes against a team with 1 black hole vs. a team with 1 black hole against a team with 0? Yes. I will give it to you for free.
  7. The Cubs are going to be paying WAY too much for terrible catchers next year. Yuck. Pitch framing REALLY needs to be a thing.
  8. Because then you only have one offensive black hole you have to tolerate in the lineup.
  9. Pretty much what Friedman and Maddon had accepted for 162 games for the last 3 years with the Rays. You can get away with a black hole at catcher in the AL with the DH. why Because the pitcher isn't hitting.
  10. They seriously have to bring along a complete waste of meat like Ross to get Lester? Christ, just give him another year instead.
  11. It's all on the seat belt.
  12. I don't think montero has anything to do with it. They either sign an ace or they don't. Did you miss the angst over the White Sox "winning" the offseason the other day? "The angst?" It was one guy saying that.
  13. The day I realized there was a Jeffrey Baez was infuriating.
  14. But guys, really, the Baez thing...that's not funny.
  15. Boxcar Tom is hilarious. Especially his adventures with pies on windowsills. Damn right.
  16. Based on what's winning it's clear NSBB doesn't understand great humor. Based on the volume of PTR references I'd say you're right. PTR has been greatly misused; it only works if he's an old timey hobo.
  17. Based on what's winning it's clear NSBB doesn't understand great humor.
  18. I think a good percentage of people would say Bochy is the best manager in baseball and its hard to argue at this point Meh. Do you think players don't look at him as someone they'd want to play for, especially given the Giants' success in recent years? It seems like Maddon has a good rep, but if a FA is weighing managers it would seem like Bochy would be really appealing.
  19. That's really not an applicable comparison; they managed to get LBJ back mainly because he's from the area and he liked the narrative of returning home. Up and coming can only get you so far when you're trying to argue your case against teams that actually have been regularly competitive and have won multiple WS within the last decade. Again, I think a lot of people here want to dismiss how much this likely influences a FA's decision along with the money/years.
  20. "Oh yeah; I was also there all of those other years, included the two where we won the World Series!" an argument of "we're competitive all the time" falls a bit flat when the club has finished in last place two of the past three seasons. Far more competitive than the Cubs, competitive more of ten than not and they've shown the propensity to bounce back quickly when he was with them and the willingness to do what is needed to bounce back quickly. I don't think it's a stretch at all to say the Cubs have to sell themselves a lot harder than teams like the Red Sox or the Giants.
  21. "Oh yeah; I was also there all of those other years, included the two where we won the World Series!" Theo: BTW, I was the GM for the first of those two, and the players I developed/acquired played a big part in the second! Come to the Cubs! I think these guys weigh recent franchise history more than a lot of us want to admit.
