  1. There's only 3 reasons I could see them going with Lester instead: He pitches out of his mind the rest of the season and is actually better than Arrieta. Arrieta is injured. Arrieta pitches like ass the rest of the season. Otherwise, if things continue mostly unchanged then there's zero chance they don't go with Arrieta. Why would they have to go with Lester because of his salary? What's he going to do, refuse to play if he doesn't get the start?
  2. Hey, it was a good post worth repeating. Did you get the weird SQL error?
  3. You sweet bearded bastard. Everyone else on the team can go fart out a duck.
  4. Against lefties, sure. Against righties...yikes. How many righties has he faced today ? Philosophically? 28.

  6. The Cubs strike out a lot. They're second in all of baseball to just the Astros. Booooooooooooo.
  7. You realize we're Cubs fans right But now people are doing it the opposite way today. http://33.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lhgoda7mkS1qha8lao1_400.gif
  8. Yes, that would be a complete disaster. I may hate myself for bringing this up, but Schwarber / Bryant / Soler in the OF with Coghlan at 3B might be slightly less of a disaster. When they bring up Baez I say Coghlan/Fowler platooning their AB's with Bryant in LF when Coghlan is on the bench and then Bryant in CF when Fowler is off. Move Castro to 2B, Russell to SS and put Baez at 3B. I don't think they bring up Schwarber before September.
  9. He's another player with enormously different WAR between BR and Fangraphs. Is this coming down to a difference in defensive metrics again or do they weigh the SB differently, too?
  10. WHICH ONE?!?!?

  12. That's honestly the crazy lineup I was thinking I'd prefer. We're really splitting hairs at this point between Castro and Fowler in terms of who has the worse bat, and with Castro there's still reason to play him because you need him to turn it around, whether because you're trading him or because he's on the team next year. Make Fowler Coghlan's platoon-buddy (but play him in CF when he starts and have Bryant in LF) and bump Denorfria to the bench. Coghlan/Fowler - LF/CF Rizzo -1B Bryant - LF/CF Soler - RF Baez - 3B Russell - SS Montero/Body - C P Castro - 2B There's my Sunday morning madness.
  13. He is, but so is Russell right now. We have so many hitters struggling that switching the batting order around won't do much good; it would just involve a different struggling/bad hitter moving in front of another. True, though at this point I'd rather see Addison get more PA's.
  14. Yeah, good thing there's no chance Baez can be that bad. Maybe, maybe not. At least it will be different. Better D and more power is almost guaranteed. Hopefully he's an improvement offensively, though I think some people are too hung up on the idea of him being so much better defensively. The bat is ideally what separates the two of them. Plus wouldn't/shouldn't he be more likely to actually end up at 2B between him and Russell?
  15. Yeah, good thing there's no chance Baez can be that bad.
  16. Huh? They're definitely not very good defensively, but they're essentially neck and neck with the Cubs when it comes to fielding. The Sox are 29th in defensive efficiency and 30th by a healthy margin in UZR. UZR can smooch my big white butt. It's flimflam.

  18. Why on earth would the Padres make that deal? It's possible Castro has some value..who knows. But yeah throwing Jackson in there completely kills this as a viable trade offer. Caatro definitely has value even with his terrible season. He's only 25 and under a very team-friendly deal; based on his past success I have little doubt that plenty of FO's will think they can fix him. But yeah, THAT deal seems to be hinged on the Padres mostly just looking to swap money for reasons.
  19. That's the good news. Bad news is the Cubs can't hit anyone. Hey, they've got 3 hits and a walk off of him, too. They can hit pitchers; they just have a lot of trouble for stretches actually driving the runners in.
