  1. According to Fangraphs, from the beginning of the 2010 season through this season, Ryan Howard has been worth about $9.9 million. He has been paid almost $120 million in that time.
  2. Because it's a DH? seriously. Christ people were throwing fits for taking Lester out two days ago and now he complains about leaving Arrieta in. Don't overextend him, but there's no harm in running him back out there to at least start the 8th. I had no problem pulling Lester. It's complete foresight to the people who had a problem with that. you mean hindsight? You're burying the lede; of course he had no problem with Lester being pulled because it gave the Cardinals a better chance to come back.
  3. It's the kind of creative, outside of the box-thinking that makes me the winner that I am. I will blame literally everything that goes wrong with the Cubs on Hendry and make obnoxious fart noises with my mouth as I do it. The fan that choked to death in the bleachers eating one of Papa Ricketts' expensive bison sausages? Completely Hendry's fault. *PPPPBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBTTTTTTTT*
  4. Arrieta doesn't get to sit until he gets his ERA under 2.
  5. This is all I can think of every time David Ross plays:
  6. I'm going to count this as you complimenting him. He's been really good lately. Benching him was the right thing to do, he needed that mental break and Maddon is doing a good job at getting him in favorable spots. Good Lord, what a meatball narrative. I think the benching definitely helped in that it made him realize he needed to change something at the plate, but it's those actual changes that's he been coached on and that he's executing that are making the difference, not a "mental break." i don't see why the concept of a mental break is necessarily some meatbally notion Because we've just had two posts in short order from people here thinking the benching itself is what fixed him, as opposed to the tangible changes in his approach at the plate that you have actually posted some of the best evidence of. But yeah, I'm sure it's more that he had more time to sit around and think real hard about things.

  8. Damn, I [expletive] love how good Castro is again. This is amazing.
  9. So what? What are still obsessed with making sure Hendry gets any kind of fair shake? He was a garbage person and he was terrible at his job. That players that he had acquired had to be traded for other players means absolutely nothing and only reflects poorly on him and his team-building abilities. You're to Jim Hendry as ARCubsFan is to the Cardinals.
  10. I'm not saying he wasn't technically; just that maybe he could have been even better, both offensively and defensively, if Hendry wasn't in panic-mode. Bringing him up then wasn't wrong, but it wasn't necessarily the best choice, and here we are. yeah, obviously he was successful. i just think he could have been polished up more in the minors. he was only 20 for christ's sake. Right. Bringing him up wasn't a bad move, but it speaks to the larger problem of Hendry putting the team in the situation where basically they had to bring Castro up barely age 20 to try and kickstart things. There's very, very few players I'd be cool with anyone bringing up that young.
  11. Why are you the way that you are? I'm extremely frustrated that the Cubs are having their best season in almost a decade, have a top 5 record in MLB, would be leading almost every other division, and yet will likely have to settle for a one game do-or-die on the road to decide their fate. I think I'm entitled to that frustration. If it seems like I don't enjoy the winning, I'm sorry. I promise you I do. Like that Ski guy, you mistake nonstop ridiculous negative histrionics for frustration.

  13. I agree that Baez would've had less of a chance of succeeding, but if we're going to blame a particular front office for how Castro has turned out, it shouldn't be Hendry's. I think it's kind of forgotten how dominant Starlin was before getting called up. In my mind he wasn't rushed. For about two dozen games literally weeks after turning 20. He was always obviously aggressive, and I'd like to think that a smarter FO would have taken a bit more time to try and refine that a bit, especially given his age. Even if it just meant him coming up a year later at 21 like Addison did, they really did just jump on promoting him as soon as he broke out. yeah and he was trying to save his job because the team looked like crap Definitely. It was so obviously done to just try and jump start things in the short run.
  14. [expletive], you sicken me. WHY ARE YOU AFRAID OF EVERYTHING. I'm pretty sure a one game playoff is always a little nerve-racking, but I just don't think there's a tougher place to play on the road than PNC Park right now in all of MLB. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/8879974/v83887483/42115-cubs-rally-for-three-in-9th-to-sink-pirates/?query=cubs%2Bpirates just watch this whenever you get scared I love how happily Castro is chomping that gum.

The Cubs are 3-3 there this season. YOU ARE THE WORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRST.

  18. I was thinking of something more along the lines of "this doubleheader is the worst thing to ever happen on this date," but that works better.
  19. Who gives a [expletive] if they traded Hendry-era players? How is that any kind of positive reflection on Hendry? He failed to utilize them with any kind of sustained success while he was in charge, so...good for him, I guess. I don't think you even know what the hell you're trying to give him credit for. Sure, let's give him credit for not being SO terrible that he technically didn't leave the successive regime with absolutely nothing to work with. What a legacy! I have no idea why you seem so determined to think that being able to trade players acquired under a previous GM is some kind of badge of honor for the failed GM. It's like looking at a CEO coming in and saving a company from failing, but wanting to give credit to the previous CEO for putting the new guy in a position to be able to save the company in the first place. Sorry, Hendry's legacy as a turd is cemented for eternity.
  20. I can't think of a way that you can prepare an egg that I wouldn't want to eat all of it as often as possible right away. And if I have to choose I would take French toast over pancakes, but I think waffles easily trumps them both.
  21. Baez' chances of succeeding in a Hendry system are probably less than nil, and who knows how much they fucked up Castro by needlessly pushing him to the bigs. Hendry can smooch my taint.
  22. Humans enjoy many delicious things. Pancakes, waffles and French toast are all delightful options that can be enjoyed at different times, or sometimes all at once. I'm intrigued If I'm at some kind of breakfast buffet scenario, the carnage left behind is...unspeakable.
