Why? He was available for free last month and nobody wanted him. I know he's had a good month, but I doubt that's rebuilt his trade value to the point where somebody is taking on his contract and giving something of value. I've shared this sentiment before, but 'Castro clearing waivers means the baseline for his trade value is literally zero' is simply not true. Teams have different motivations and risk tolerances in August, and generally the default is letting a player pass through waivers out of courtesy if nothing else. We're 10 months removed from Matt Kemp's corpse and bloated contract getting insane value in trade, and he didn't have Starlin's youth, health, positional advantage, friendlier contract, or insane September to promote optimism. I obviously have no insight as to how GMs view the waiver wire, but I just can't imagine a team like the Padres letting Castro slip through waivers simply out of courtesy if they felt his contract was at all friendly. I'm not saying he's untradeable, but I think people need to scale back expectations on getting anything of real value for him at this point. Why? Players pass through waivers all the time; it means next to nothing.

does middle relief mean jon lester in another language? No, you [expletive]. :-) As Joe said, he seems to be peaking at the right time. But I do wonder/fear esp about Strop. If the Cubs can beat Pitts, I'm not terribly confident given the majority of his outings, esp at Busch. The majority of his outings? Then how does he have the number she has? Sorcery? -

Yup. The strategic reasons are obvious, but at the same time it's obviously saying, "[expletive] you, you suck, we're not worried about you doing anything with the bat." You come up and crush one when a team's walked someone to get to you? Hell yeah, you should get to enjoy it. Every other sport you see people celebrating or getting pumped over scoring or a big play, but baseball is still our big, dumb uncle who says awkward things at holiday dinners. Flat out saying they're going to hit him is just ridiculous. It's like a basketball team saying they're going to clothesline Steph Curry because of what he does after he hits a big 3.

Be excited; they just immediately acted like as soon as they were behind they were doomed. What a bunch of duds. A ton of Cubs fans ARE pretty shitty. We'll see if they get their act together this year.

They were terrified in 2007, too; it's a Chicago thing. In 2007, they had two horrible losses in games 1 and 2 and then started the elimination game at home by giving up a HR to the first hitter and were never within less than 2 runs. Don't care; lose your [expletive] minds expecting them to come back until the game is over. Chicago fans can eat [expletive].

Any of the Bulls playoff games, the Bears playing the Packers to go to the SB, [expletive] even the THIRD [expletive] Stanley Cup the Blackhawks were about to win in 6 years were dominated by timid, relatively quiet Chicago fans who seem convinced everything is going to go wrong. It looks very unlikely we will be able to catch the Pirates and play the WC game at Wrigley...their final series is against the Reds. Can't see them losing 2 out of 3 to that team. I like the idea someone mentioned of how Cubs fans being able to watch the Cubs win that game on the screens at Wrigley might exorcise a bit of the terror they displayed constantly in 2007 and 2008.

lol, that is quite the backhanded compliment It's not meant to call him stupid. Just that he may not get overwhelmed by the hugeness of the situation. I see it. Think lovable, gif-inspiring, clutch Castro from the first month of the season.

It's really [expletive] bizarre. Nobody was expecting anything much better than, "hey, maybe he won't embarrass himself now that he lost his fulltime job." Obviously he's out of his mind this month, but holy [expletive], if the middle ground between this and August is based on him making adjustments at the plate and something he can actually sustain...yikes.
