  1. Are you serious? Him making a run-scoring hit in a game the Cubs are getting murdered in beyond hope makes up for all the other times he's played and screwed up when victory was even at least remotely possible? Bynum sucked before the triple and still sucks after the triple. Out of pure spite, I'd say he actually sucks even MORE than before for hitting it in a game like today's.
  2. How often does a pitcher like this get a chance like this? The Cubs are the best Christmas present ever for scrub pitchers.
  3. Yep. Good to see the ecellent starting pitching we were ravig about in the offseason.... i hate to say i called it, but.... i called it Called what? Marshall would have a bunch of good to great starts and then one terrible outing? That's an odd thing to have "called."
  4. Depends, but I think I hate the fly out. A fly is going to be out except for the most exteme circumstances. On the other hand, a lot of singles are just ground outs that didn't go to where the fielder was. Of course, the GIDP is the worst, I'd rather they hit it in the air when the situation calls for it. The absolute worst is the first pitch out of the strike zone foul pop out. Oh man, that last part is gospel. ESPECIALLY if there are guys on base and in scoring position. And the team is down by a run or it's tied. And the guy that pops it up is normally a sure bat. That's instant ulcer right there. And with ground outs, when I say I hate those most, I mean the pathetic little dribblers that are barely more than a bun that give the infielders plenty of time to set up and throw. We've been seeing a TON of those lately...apparently when people were talking about how Pierre would "inspire" the other players with his hard work, they also meant that everyone would copy his weak ground outs, too.
  5. This team is playing so bad Lee's "accidentally" bashing his wrist against something hard every day just to stay away longer. Since there's no offense to talk about, which type of out do you all find the most frustrating, the fly, grounder or strike out? Obviously there's more variation than that, but I'm too depressed to get into specifics. Anyway, watching this team has made me realize just how much I HATE the ground out. It just seems SO incredibly useless and impotent...just strike the hell out and don't get my hopes up.
  6. I'm at the point where I almost want the Cubs to have their payroll sliced in half. Why blow $100+ million on an awful team and coaching staff when you can have exactly the same results for half that? Or even less?
  7. Oh, Christ. I take that back. I forgot it's another series against the Padres...Cubs sucking aside and giving them that sweep, they're red hot right now. This is gonna hurt BAD. I can only pray that the Nationals are even more craptacular than the Cubs right now.
  8. Someone start tomorrow's game thread. It's never too early!
  9. CUBS LOSE!!!!
  10. "Hey, guys, come on!"
  11. No, but he saw the field for the first time last night, in the bottom of the 9th. His mere presence in the dugout/clubhouse must have given them just the spark they needed. When he punched his glove and hunkered down, you could see the electricity arcing between the players on the field. My legs felt weak and I had to sit down. Somewhere distant, a child wept with tears of joy. A bastard child perhaps. Thank goodness you'd taken off you heels and put on your himalayan walking shoes. Awesome.
  12. Especially if the grass is even a little wet. I know that can mess a lot of players up, but with Jacque it almost seems like a sure bet.
  13. Heh...that song's gonna be stuck in my head all day now...curse you! While the cause is tremendously noble, this is going to hurt if any of my baseball-hating friends see the players swinging these things. Ah well...take that, cancer!
  14. Some of the defense has looked fine..."dude can catch the ball, dude!" But those throws...ech.
  15. Hot damn! That's hot pink! I think I'll classify Jacque's bat's color as "strip club champagne."
  16. With a first name like his, I would prefer that this period actually be known as "the RENAISSANCE of Jacque Jones."
  17. The Cubs hold a lead for more than a single inning. WOOOOOOOOH, WINNING STREAK!

  19. Someone please clarify this for me...when they say "pink bats," how pink are we talking? Isn't Jacque's bat already pink? Pink bats are hilarious. Breast cancer sucks.
  20. They listened once... http://home.comcast.net/~sauce1977/stop_sucking.jpg
  21. They've sucked a lot more when it's been hot and dry.
  22. Like Popeye doing a handstand.
  23. If they're honestly working with the idea of making these guys capable pitchers for years to come, I'll happily wait it out until Prior comes back. A healthy rotation of Prior, Zambrano, Wood and Miller plus Marshall plus Maddux? DAMN.
  24. Most of the "classic" ball clubs have a deep undercurrent of racism that is going to take a LONG time to finally be rid of. It's not usually blatant and pretty easy to avoid, but far too often it's the first thing some people go to when they're pissed at a player or manager. Boston, New York and Chicago are probably the biggest culprits in that area, probably in that order. Yeah, of course it's not everyone, but those are some old teams with some HUGE fan bases, and some of these racist goons last generation after generation.
