  1. What if the Cubs could somehow magically get Pujols? Would you implode?
  2. I agree with Hendry probably looking out for a big trade he can pull off to up this team's image drastically...I just hope it's a smart one. If The Cubs were trying to trade for A-Rod and dump Slap in the deal, they'd have to offer one of their top relievers as part of it...probably Howry or Eyre and most of their salary. I think if Jones stays hot and they use him they could offer someone like Novoa or Wuertz or Williamson (if he heals quick and gets back out there).
  3. I can easily see packaging up Wood as a serious part of trying to get someone like Abreu or A-Rod.
  4. I don't think anyone is talking about anything other than trading him when they say "getting rid of him." At least anyone with half a brain.
  5. I think both NY teams would love to have Wood in their starting rotation.
  6. I refuse to let this die. Wood/Aramis/Jones and a reliever. Aramis would thrive in a lineup like what the Yankees have. Surround him with great hitters and he'll get all the pitches he wants to blast. I wish the Pirates had some trade needs we could fill, because Craig Wilson would be perfect to slide into RF. I'd prefer to hold off on Pie until next year.
  7. I hope so...I want to see Murton excel, it really seems like he's got the stuff. I just hate seeing mutts like Clines and Sarge running him into the groud and making him a hacker at the plate.
  8. But there's an obvious difference between rookies like Murton and vets like Walker when it comes to being influenced/inspired/ruined/etc. by the coaches. I suppose, but I wouldn't trust my career with the advice of someone else if I could see their advice didn't help me. Me neither, but then I think back to jobs where I was the "new kid" and often readily accepted what the bosses told me, even if it ended up not always being the best advice or directions. I think the staff, like Dusty, are better suited to or prefer dealing with veteran players than rookies.
  9. That's why I was asking for the stats, actually. I fully admit it's a gut feeling on my part...and yeah, I meant May 1st, my bad. It seemed like during his time last year and the first month this year, he walked noticeably more. I could easily be wrong.
  10. But there's an obvious difference between rookies like Murton and vets like Walker when it comes to being influenced/inspired/ruined/etc. by the coaches. And like I said, their coaching style isn't going to be bad for everyone. I think Cedeno's getting it going in that aggressive style. It just runs very contrary to how we had seen Murton achieve so much early success. The coaches seem very one note in their attitude...it's aggressive or nothing.
  11. Agreed. Maddux hasn't had the bullpen cost him anything this year. When he's won, he deserved to. When he's lost, he deserved to. He's had a couple no-decisions which he should have won had the offense been able to muster 2 or even 1 run, and he kept the opposing team to 3 runs or less.
  12. I hate to be a doomsayer, but I really think the Cubs hitting coaches might have turned him for the worse. Cedeno was already a very aggressive hitter, so it would have been tough for them to warp him much, but Murton has REALLY changed for the worst in the last few weeks. His biggest strength was pretty obvious from the very start...he's a smart, patient hitter. But ever since that quote came out that the Cubs' coaches were trying to get him to be more "aggressive" he's been swinging and chopping a lot more, hacking at 1st pitches like his life depended on it and striking out a LOT more than even the sample size of last year indicated. I know, I know, he's still young and getting his "sea legs," but given the mentality and reputation of the hitting coaches on this team and how Murton has been offesnively the last few weeks, it worries me. I hope I'm just overreacting. Fred, would you be able to pull the stats as to how many walks he's taken since April 1st, per game?
  13. That last part deserves to be screamed from the rooftops, not whispered in secret.
  14. That on deck "stat" needs to go. What's the implication, that Aaron only hit that HR because Dusty was over there giving him sexy vibes?
  15. Even if they lose tomorrow, they just took 4 of 2 from the top 2 teams in the division. If they at least win the series with the 'Stros with Lee and Prior almost right around the corner, I may have to start getting annoyingly optimistic. If Hendy does the unthinkable and makes a killer trade to top it off, I just might have to dance naked in public. If Neifi gets DFA'ed as well, I'll kill a man and wear his pelt in triumph.
  16. D'OH! Get better quick...even if it just so we can show you off as trade bait!
  17. Speaks good English??? Are you serious? Most people can't understand a word he says. He does pronounce the vulgarities surprisingly well, however. are you saying most people because you don't understand him? i can understand him clearly just as often as i understand baker. Same here. Ozzie has a thick accent, but he speaks english with it just fine.
  18. Damn, that sucks. Obviously, seeing the Cardinals falter is not something I'll turn down, but like it's been said, we know all too well the pain of a rock of a player going down with an injury out of nowhere. And Pujols seems like a good guy, and Cardinal or not, he's a masterpiece of a ballplayer. Here's hoping it's not too serious!
  19. I'd like for him to be pitching stronger already, but it's only his 2nd rehab start and look hwo much he's improved in ALL areas since the first. It's only 2 games, but it seems like with time and being careful, he should get back to at least being in the near vicinty of "the old Prior" pretty fast. And hell, even if he lost a bit of his speed, it's not like he has to pound his pitches past guys. Prior could have a great career as more of a "finesse" thrower...Maddux with a bit more speed.
  20. Check the NSBB bylaws, Pirate mongering is a bannable offense. Wicked harsh! Pirates just gotta live!
  21. "Murder threats" I understand...but why would false piratehood be grounds for a locking?
  22. Cubs need to only play the Cardinals! ROLL ON, BOYS!
