  1. I don't think it's enough. There's still only 2 legit power threats in Lee & Ram in the middle of the order. I agree with the pitching that seems to be shaping up (or lack thereof), this lineup wouldn't seem to be able to lift us to many victories----though it is better than last year. Side note: I've always thought Barrett would shine best in the 2 hole rather than lower in the order. I agree 110% about Barrett. Bat him #2 and when he sits slit Murton in there.
  2. I have zero problem overpaying for Soriano as long as he hits leadoff. Anywhere else is a guarenteed letdown.
  3. Wow, brilliantly done. I now love this deal even more. Me too. Hendry really did get the job done right with Wood, Aramis and Miller. Now if he could just figure out how to use those negotiating tactics with NEW players...
  4. If this doesn't prove Big Z is a closet NSBB'er, I don't know what does. Z = gooney. Shhhhhh.
  5. Probably not a whole lot. They were willing to let him go for free off waivers a couple years ago. I seriously think they'd let him go for Eyre, Jones and Dempster if we took all his salary. If thats the case, save the ridiculous soriano money, offload some of Hendrys spare parts, and lets score some runs. Maybe switch Dempster for Izturis and add a prospect. I think that seems a more likely package.
  6. Are you saying Aardsma showed anything even close to a hint that he'd be anything except a reliever? Because I sure never saw it. That's what makes the Garland comparison, on ANY level, pretty ridiculous. Aardsmaa has shown flashes of what he can do..the guy lacks control though..What go is throwing 97-100 MPH if you cant control it...He showed what happens by getting rocked plenty of times..Well just have to wait and see... This trade to me, is pretty much garbage for garbage..It means nothing.. What could he do besides relief pitching?
  7. Probably Gallagher or Veal and another arm.

  9. I thought Aardsma showed a little something in his time with the Cubs, but nothing even close to indicating he's going to be some great loss as some are implying here. If Cotts is replacing someone who's going to be used in a tarde or he's going to be spun off himself in a deal, hey, good move. If not, it's pretty "meh."
  10. That would be an awful trade for the Yanks. If Willis is actually available and the Yanks want 'em, Hendry needs to get in there and pick him up so we can spin him off as the centerpiece in a trade for ARod.
  11. Let me repeat that: No, really...re-read it: Wow.
  12. I swear that was a plot point in one of those hilarious anti-drug short films from ye olden days.
  13. Glendon played for Roger Craig in San Fran? Wow...never knew that. LOLERZZZZZZZ11!!!1!1111 BECUZ HE IZ TEH FAT!!11!!1!!1
  14. Maybe they're actually going to try both, especially if they're ideally going to unoad Izturis and some relief salary. If they do somehow get both, I think people need to realize that Soriano pretty much NEEDS to bat leadoff. I know it's tempting to put him elsewhere, but over his career he's consistently achieved his best numbers batting from the #1 slot. Maybe it's a mental thing, but that's where he seems to thrives and I'd want to maximize a player's talents, especially at his cost.
  15. I can only hope the gist of this thread is true. *Lights candle*
  16. No. Why can't we be fed up with a team continually overpaying for mediocrity but almost always acting like overpaying for quality players is some kind of crime? A lot of us are sick of it.
  17. I would really like to see the acceptable fans' list. From what I can tell, this board has narrowed Hendry's acceptable signing list to JD Drew and everybody else is subpar or a waste of money. Yeah, that's clearly what everyone has been saying.
  18. http://graphics.boston.com/bonzai-fba/Globe_Photo/2005/11/09/1131542053_6867.jpg Does that question really need to be asked over things like this?
  19. His defense is something you can live with and defense is far, FAR from being our problem right now. His bat would have exactly the kind of impact our offense desperately needs right now.
  20. Dunn gets on base reguarly in spite of the strikeouts.
  21. Which Lee are you talking about? And while trading for pitchers with the bullpen is fine, what does that address about the offense?
  22. It's not always about the money. Like I said elsewhere, 2nd and CF were the two areas it was clear the Cubs could significantly upgrade relatively easily if they were willing to spend and they've just blown one of those slots on a glorified utility player.
