My response would be, "man, that's a horrible, horrible opinion, Lee...but thank you for being a productive and key player for this team." As opposed to, "oh, good, something else Ryan Theriot is terrible at."
I was wondering the same thing myself. the only race thing I remember was him saying that black people play better in the heat. You don't remember his claims of incessant racial taunts against LaTroy Hawkins and Jacque Jones? Or his comments about San Francisco's racist tendencies when they ran him out of town? his defenses of LaTroy and Jacque were justified No, because he exagerrated a few awful incidents/letters/comments to basically represent the entire fanbase, or at least most of it.
Why? Did he remove Hill from the rotation yet? Read his quote again. He doesn't say anything about removing Hill. He just sounds concerned with how Hill is pitching, and that's justified. It's not just this. Lou isn't Baker...yet. I haven't been terribly impressed with a lot of his managing. Yeah, yeah, "he got the team to the playoffs"...well, so did Dusty. I wasn't thrilled with the Lou signing when it first happened. He's been better than I feared, but nothing special.
No shame in Wood's outing. Giving up a solo shot to a good fastball hitter like Bay will happen from time to time...the important thing is that he immediately stopped the bleeding and made the next three batters look like chumps and kept the Cubs in it.
