  1. Maybe so, but the guy was selling Cub merchandise without the organization permission, not to mention alot of fans found it offensive. I mean the vendor said it was his highest selling shirt, which means there are alot of people who didn't find it offensive. But there were prolly as many, or more people who found it offensive, thus they call the Cubs org, and the org decide to confront the vendor, and forced him to stop selling the shirt. I don't found it offensive, a lack of taste, sure, but offensive no. Would I buy it? No. I haven't seen the shirt, but it sounds more like a really bad attempt at making money off being cute/funny than actual racism. Are we talking about the "horry cow" t-shirt? I heard there was one that had Harry Carey with slanted eyes. That is the Horry Cow shirt. And it was offensive, at least to me. It was basically the equivalent to having a big-lipped, Bright white eyed, watermelon eating Sambo on, say, a Derrek Lee shirt. I was amazed that people actually bought it. OK. But do you think the intention of the person who created them was to disparage the race, or was it just a really stupid, bad attempt at humor without thinking of the consequences? Like I said, I didn't even see the shirt or the vendors selling them. I'll be glad if they never see the light of day again. The intention doesn't have to be malicious for it still to be stupidly racist.
  2. Nobody is expecting him to start reguarly in LF when Soriano is back and healthy. We're talking about Murton starting while Soriano is out and Lou's tendencies to give up on promising young players when they don't perform right away.

  4. Murton better pray to God he goes something like 6-8 at the very least the next couple of games, or else Lou is going to bench him or send him back down.
  5. Johnson was mediocre at best career numbers against righties. Pie has nothing left to prove in the minors. Most young players need to go through growing pains as they adjust to the majors. Pie is going to learn next to nothing getting sporadic starts and late inning replacements here or there. The Cubs need to let him work it out and try and adjust for an extended period of time, or they need to trade him while he still has significant value. The team can afford to have one fulltime player on the roster learning the ropes, especialy if they do the smart thing and upgrade at SS.
  6. The problem is, the Cubs don't know when they'll be in non-pressure situations. They could have a stretch where alll the games are tight and close. Wuertz and Howry aren't going to work things out by not getting into games...Lou needs to pitch them. Sitting them to make them "right" is the same anti-logic tha assumes guys like Pie and Patterson will get better sitting instead of starting because they weren't good right out of the gate. As for Marmol, unless the Cubs are going to turn him into a starter, I want him traded.
  7. Not that it's a problem that they're not there, but it's a little feature of the front page I've always appreciated that the site provides.
  8. Yeah, I saw that. Save that crap for the Red Sox/Yankees, fools.
  9. Forgetting Ramirez's other recent season starts?
  10. Hoping a player fails so his backup can provide barely a modicum of improvement, instead of actually rooting for a player to continue performing at a level above what either would have been expected to do is stupid. Except that's not what I've said or done at all. I'm not HOPING for Theriot to fail in the long run. I'm EXPECTING him to fail in the long run. Like I said, if Theriot manages to have a good season, awesome...but I'll be stunned if he does.
  11. So if Theriot really wants to do what's best for the Cubs he'll deliberately screw up so the incompetent management will make the right decisions. Look, if Theriot strings together a decent season, which he'll likely have a shot to do since the Cubs show little desire to replace him through or trade or with Cedeno, I'll happily eat several hats. Odds are, he won't actually pull that off, which is why I'm not swayed by a few decent games at the beginning of the season. He strung together a few good weeks last season and was abyssmal for the rest.
  12. The Riot has actually been pretty decent lately. Great. He'll manage another good month that'll inflate his season stats and blind the management to how badly he stinks the rest of the season. Way to be a fan. My fandom makes me want a SS for this team that can put together a quality season.
  13. That's what it would be like if we played Patterson at SS. I'm sure Theriot is sad that Wilson AKA Theriot of the Future is on the DL.
  14. Wow, the Pirates' SS has no range. Maybe anti-range.
  15. The Riot has actually been pretty decent lately. Great. He'll manage another good month that'll inflate his season stats and blind the management to how badly he stinks the rest of the season.
  16. What about that O'Malley kid? He's clearly nothing, but he had one good game against a crappy team, he's tiny and white and Irish, so the boozers of course will love him. Just call him "McGritty."
  17. How much do you think he is making?
  18. You truly do love your hyperbole, don't you? Personally, I was guilty of supporting Theriot but frankly I don't care who they play at SS anymore (although Theriot has been hitting the ball the last couple games). Whoever does play SS should hit 7th or 8th. As far as your Hill comment, that is just silly. The Cubs put him in the pen for only 2 games yet you act as if the Cubs, and those who supported this TEMPORARY move, want to banish him to the bullpen forever and never see him again. You do realize he's starting Friday, and like most who supported this temporary move, I'm hopeful a few extra bullpen sessions helped him mechanically. Flip on either of the Chicago sports radio stations or WGN's postgame shows to hear exactly what I'm talking about over and over and over and over again, or just overhear plenty of people in or around the ballpark. My comment wasn't slamming the Cubs...it was slamming a very large, very vocal segment of Cubs fans.
  19. Cubs fans never cease to baffle me. Players like Aramis get busted on for being "lazy" and Murton is somehow regarded as abust or generally not good, Hill is a complete headcase and should be in relief, but then they'll fight tooth and nail for someone like Theriot and demand he gets as many A's as possible starting at the top of the order.
  20. He's walking through all this, at least. I can't even imagine what the lineup will be like if Lee, Ram, Fuk and Sori are all hot for a stretch at the same time. Not likely, but would be ricockulous How nice would it be to have Fukudome walking ahead of Derrek? Glorious. And then Soto right after Aramis? Heavenly.
  21. Yeah, it's been stupid that Hendry hasn't traded him the last couple of seasons, given that his trade value is next to nil. Makes complete sense.
  22. He's walking through all this, at least. I can't even imagine what the lineup will be like if Lee, Ram, Fuk and Sori are all hot for a stretch at the same time. Not likely, but would be ricockulous And then backing them up you'd have DeRosa and Soto proving themselves to being very solid. Sigh.
