  1. Gallgher has looked pretty good today...his array of pitches is very impressive. Less walks = more gooder, of course, but more than a few of those balls have been real borderline pitches that a more established pitcher would likely have called in his favor. He's not looking wild at all.
  2. GET THAT BUM OFF OF THIS TEAM. SHAM HITTER.
  3. Damn, Lee just got under that one. Incredible...I don't WANT Theriot to do bad, and thankfully he's now on 3rd, but he's likely out if that throw is on.
  4. winner Yeah, it's nuts, but for that lineup, you live with it. Soriano is going to suck the last few years of his contract no matter what.
  5. Based on what? Based on trying to scrape together $13M to give to Holliday. No, what are you basing the idea of a cap that tight on the Cubs' spending? I hear lots of hypotheticals based on the sale, but nothing that really says that they cannot spend any mony or what their limits are at any given moment based on the circumstances. If trading for Holliday (which won't ever happen) was going down while the Cubs were still in first and have a serious chance of going to to the big show, the money would be magically "found." The Cub aren't going to become less profitable by winning more.
  6. Like the Cardinals, it would be insane if their pitching held up over the course of the season to keep them in serious contention. Their offense is surprising, bt it wouldn't be nearly as surprising if Tejada comes back down to Earth (and given how few walks he's taken, that seems all but inevitable) and Berkman cools off.
  7. tell fukudome sorry for breaking our promise and put him in centerfield. Or, Soriano could still cover enough ground in CF to not be a liability. He tweaked his leg hopping in LF. I don't need to see him diving for balls in CF. He tweaked his leg. It happen to be with a hop, but it's not like an injury like that one wasn't going to happen if he didn't hop. It just happened to be at that moment. Like it's been pointed out, it's not like the difference between CF and LF is a vast one. And hell, to get Holliday onto the team, I'd even consider moving Soriano back to 2nd for a season or two. Gonzo idea, sure, but man, that lineup is delicious.
  8. Dempster's performance should in no way keep the Cubs from doing what they can to make a significant upgrade to the starting rotation. Personaly, I think if you want to have a real postseason shot, you need 2 reliable, dominant pitchers that you can hinge those final series on if need be...and right now, the Cubs only have one. Even if Lilly keeps doing well and Dempster does well all year and even Hill comes back strong, I'd have no problem with the Cubs trading some of their better/best prospects to get a sure thing starter at the deadline.
  9. 5 over. feeling optimistic over there jake? the pirates aren't ready to contend this year IMO, but there have been some promising signs, and i think that neal huntington has the organization headed in a much better direction (granted, it'd be hard to be worse than littlefield) I actually want the Pirates to be good. Not at the expense of us, but like Wild Card good. No kidding. Even though they're division rivals, I just can't feel anything but sorry for the Pirates. They're a classic legacy team and it would be cool to see them do well again.
  10. Jim Edmonds ninja-kicks down the outfield utility door as he catches that flyout.
  11. is your own life really so pathetic that you need to revel in other people's misfortune? maybe if you had more going on in your life, you would receive pleasure from things other than the professional and health-related setbacks of complete strangers. Yes it is. I have nothing going on in my life, and therefore I revel in the injuries of professional baseball players. Please help me, king of the internet message board. Or maybe you and your arrogant and pathetic personal attacks can just shove it. You are running away with the 2008 NSBB Cry Baby award. Keep up the good work. He's definitely the Mark Prior of NSBB. HIIIIIII-OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH.
  12. He has? For the last month, he's been playing as his career numbers indicate...decent against lefties, horrible against righties.
  13. Signing any player is worth it so long as they contribute and help the team. I don't give a flying crap who Edmonds is...I care whether or not he can still produce, and he probably can't. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it. "The soul" of the team means nothing.
  14. Looks like a primo day to let Soto get some rest and give Blanco the start.
  15. Donk-donk-donk...Soto hits the 3rd Cubs' single of the inning and scores Rammy, Fuku to 2nd.
