  1. They have Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy, 2 guys that a lot of teams would love to get their hands on, especially one about to embark on a full rebuilding phase. Also, Im thinking that the Pads will try to package Peavy and Khalil Green like the Marlins did with Becket and Mike Lowell, in which if a team wants Peavy, they'l have to take Green as well. Ian Kennedy isn't worth anyone's time. He's a 5th starter. If I am the Padres and I am looking to rebuild, a package involving Cano, Cabrera, Hughes, and a prospect or two for Peavy, Greene(could play 2B), and a prospect isn't looking like that bad of a trade. Hughes would be the only one worth a damn.
  2. Damn you making it so difficult to pigeonhole him, abuck. WHY MUST YOU BE SO DIFFICULT?
  3. "I'm, like, angry at numbers and stuff."
  4. Man, that's terrible. One of the few enjoyable guys on the team in the dark days of the mid-90's.
  5. Asking if one is happy with how the season "turned out" and then asking if they think the season as whole was a successful one are both very broad and arguably very different questions.
  6. That's because the only "defending" going on is countering incredibly scattershot attempts at rational analysis. It's unlikely to find someone here who is going to defend Soriano as one of the better hitters out there, or his contract. It's more a matter of countering the idea some seem to have that he has little or even no value whatsoever, which is ridiculous.
  7. What are you talking about? Where is everyone fawning all over Hamilton?
  8. Rivera is an amazing, once in a lifetime player. It is highly unlikely that Marmol is another Rivera.
  9. No but I mean if we are building a team to win next year why would we trade the pitcher who was just about the best statistical reliever in baseball year? Because of that you could spin a reliever as a big part of a deal ideally for a position player or a starting pitcher. Personally, I'd prefer that and take the gamble on someone in the organization stepping up next year out of the bullpen. If they keep him, great, but I don't really get hung up on keeping a reliever.
  10. Yeah, talking about trading a reliever is the same as talking about trading your catcher.
  11. I like the idea of trading Marmol and selling high for once.
  12. me, but it needs to be through a glory hole So IMB! is Yan from ASiP? No, hes Frank talking to the Charlie doll. No, he IS the Charlie doll.
  13. The whole thing is a loaded question...of course nobody is happy with the way it "turned out," but that doesn't negate the awesomeness of the rest of the season for me.
  14. This is very much true. At this point, I'd probably re-sign Dempster. I think he will be pretty affordable. The Cubs potentially lose Harden, Lilly and Marquis after 09. That leaves a rotation and Zambrano and ? The Cubs aren't going to get Sabathia or the like. Even if Dempster isn't as effective as he was this year as a starter, he should still be around league average at worst. Worst case scenario, you have a pitcher with some pretty good success as a short reliever. No, but it's fun to dream...it's fun to dream. I think Derek Lowe could be someone that we would have interest in. A groundball pitcher at Wrigley? Count me in. Derek Lowe is going to get a ton of interest. He's the next best thing to Sabathia. Dempster only has 1 good year as a SP. True, but it was a very, very good year that wasn't mostly reliant on luck. I'm not saying he's a sure thing, but it's not like his numbers were really hiding anything fluke-y abut how well he did, like he wasn't constantly getting saved by the defense and such.
  15. He's definitely right that the construction of the team is part of the post-season problem. Namely, the fact that the team is constructed with him on it. I assume you have the same complaint about Aramis.
  16. Wow, that is some righteous ownage right there. And why can't he master the quoting system?
  17. The season itself was great, which made the ending even more painful. Its like theres the girl of your dreams, whose been teasing you for years. All of the sudden, she decides she wants to be with you, and you get engaged. You plan out the wedding, the honeymoon, and living happily ever. Then a few days before the wedding, she gets gravely ill all of the sudden, and dies a few days later. Wouldnt you have been happier if she never came into your life? Of course not.
  18. The ending sucked, but I loved this season. Most fun I had as a Cubs fan in my 25 years of being a fan.
  19. You're a troll because no matter what the thread, you basically post the same cut and paste rantings about Soriano again and again and annoy the piss out of most people here. Though at least this thread was actually supposed to be about Soriano. Kudos.
  20. Honestly, who cares if someone on the show sounds like Katie Couric? Poehler rules...well, at least she did with the Upright Citizen's Brigade.
  21. Changes horses when midstream is never a good idea, doncha'know?
  22. Who cares? A joke is a joke. People will still make Cubs jokes even when they win it all.
  23. I've I learned anything from all this, Chicago Cubs fans think very, very, VERY poorly of dogs. "Gutless dogs." "Kicked dogs." "Choking dogs." I would have not expected this many cat people.
  24. How is he not a troll?
