  1. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2010_04_19_chnmlb_nynmlb_1&mode=preview Yes, I know why. That just makes it even more stupid.
  2. That's my feeling, too. It's early, but you're already seeing pretty significant improvements from Soto and 2B compared to the slog of last year. I think the key right now is Aramis. I'm optimistic that this is this the early season rust we've seen him display before.
  3. If it is the word everyone seems to assume it is, then what's the "textbook" version?
  4. Yeah, he does everything ass-backwards (and he's moving Theriot to 8th against lefties, not 2nd). He finally moves Theriot out of leadoff...except it's not to have Fukudome up there against RH pitchers. He moves Theriot out of leadoff...and replaces him with Byrd, who has an appalling OBP. And yeah, here are Theriot's numbers against lefties: .301 .384 .422 .806 Great job, Lou.
  5. No, not 2 seasons later. Some guys are definitely regressing, but that's due mostly to age and injuries. If you're arguing that their window is closing or is closed due to that, I'm with you. If you're saying it's basically due to being bummed over the playoffs in 2008, that's a stretch. Well I don't think that is the sole reason, but I do think it is some of it. The window is rapidly closing, being slammed shut since St. Louis never has to rebuild. Why would they be "hungover" still in 2010 but they weren't "hungover" in 2008 from 2007?

  7. No kidding. I mean, if someone says "not to be racist" you kinda have to know what it is, right?
  8. I seriously just think that it's time to break the core of this team up. I think a lot of damage was done to the team's psyche after getting swept in '08 and this group has done as much as it's going to. Wait, really? Their "team psyche was damaged?" Come on, man. They're not delicate little flowers. I've said myself I have no problem moving key players off of this team by the deadline if they're 5+ games out of it in July, but to think that it needs to happen because of a playoff sweep 2 years ago? If a Cubs team is "damaged" by big losses then you're probably going to be blowing up the team every season.
  9. i think hobbits are probably taller than theriot. regardless, that one really wasnt very close. not often you see a strike call blown on a straight fastball. rough day for the bats, but we had that game won until lou put his fat fingers all over it. Pretty much.
  10. So the Cubs lose a series by one run to the Astros and it's the end of the season...yet the Cardinals win the series against the Astros by a single run and it's impossible to catch them after only 2 weeks? Guh?
  11. Wait, wait, wait...you clearly recognize that it's only 3 games back only 2 weeks into the season. Yes. My point is that we are three games back and the season is only two weeks old and I don't have much faith in our team. I'm saying that I think there is a good chance that we will end up way out of first place. So how about waiting until that actually happens?
  12. On a pitchout, but yes. Soto has caught 4 out of 10 basestealers so far this year, but he can't play the 9th inning. Yeah, I am completely baffled by that switch.
  13. Wait, wait, wait...you clearly recognize that it's only 3 games back only 2 weeks into the season.
  14. Hell no, but I'd love to kill our Cajun Connection. Can we whack Geoff Blum first? Please do.
  15. Are some of you about to kill yourselves?
  16. The team was doing fine today until Lou decided to be an [expletive].
  17. Why the [expletive] did Lou sub Hill for Soto?
  18. Definitely pull him, but this is Lou so of course he's going back out there. I guess it makes some sense this game based on how much work the bullpen got yesterday.
  19. Nothing Byrd can do about that. Sure there is. You're supposed to freeze initially when a line drive is hit, especially if you're on 2nd or 3rd.
  20. Soriano's only hitting because the Astros apparently don't have or believe scouting reports. He still can't hit anything on the outside He never could. It's silly to act like teams are going to suddenly only pitch him outside when they could have done that all along. Exactly when Soriano is going well he watching outside pitches and waits for the pitch over the plate. He has looked better vs. outside pitches the past 4 days. I think that is one advantage with putting Soriano in the 6th spot, he is not the person you focus on holding down in this lineup as to when he was leadoff if was one of the first people you looked at in the lineup and came up with a game plan to keep him off base. You can't say he's looked better against them in the last three days: they haven't thrown him outside pitches except in that last AB. His best hit this series was in an AB where he saw three straight inside fastballs and then a slider over the middle of the plate. Every team this season just pitched him away and he was hitting .214 when Houston showed up. Oh come one. You drop the .214 like he was on a downward slide when the Astros came to town. The .214 was actually the result of him doing better compared to the first couple of series. Like the Bum pointed out, he went 3 for 7 against the Brewers.
  21. OK, this whole stupid "Soto batting 8th" thing needs to stop now.
  22. Soriano's only hitting because the Astros apparently don't have or believe scouting reports. He still can't hit anything on the outside He never could. It's silly to act like teams are going to suddenly only pitch him outside when they could have done that all along. well...why aren't they? they haven't even tried to pitch him away all series despite the fact that all of the first three teams we faced got him out consistently on the same pitch. normally his hot streaks come when he starts laying off that pitch. he wasn't laying off it at any point so far this season. the astros are beyond dumb for pitching him inside so far in this series. Beats me. In theory, Soriano shouldn't have made it more than a couple years, tops, with the obvious flaws in his approach.
