  1. Now that makes more sense. When you've made sulley look like the voice of reason here, well, you've veered off somewhere.
  2. Anybody technically could, but that's just ridiculous.
  3. The point is he's not completely useless. He's good enough to beat us if we aren't at our best. He's like Doug Flutie. Elusive white guy that can move the ball through the air and get some decent yardage on the ground if you don't watch him closely. He obviously isn't like a starter quality QB but he's probably better than half the teams backup QBs and can lead them to wins. Good Lord, I know you're always desperate to make posts about every single way your teams can lose, but come on.

  5. What the hell happened yesterday?
  6. [expletive], I [expletive] hate Wrigleyville. What a [expletive] shakedown.
  7. Aren't they losing on the revenue in the immediate future? Chicago needs that money NOW.
  8. Uh, yeah, [expletive] that noise. I love the Cubs, but this city is hard up for that cash.
  9. Also complicating things is that he's a very valuable player that the Cubs really, really need next year.
  10. That's a terrible trade for the Cubs.
  11. I'd settle for 2009. I'd settle for 2010 Adam Dunn. That's not how it works, man. Dunn is out of the Cubs budget, so Pena, Nick Johnson, et al., are now targets for Hendry. [expletive]. They could easily afford Dunn within the reduced budget if they wanted to.
  12. I'd settle for 2009. I'd settle for 2010 Adam Dunn.
  13. Why can't more rich and/or famous people give to charities? Do you have any grasp of where most charities and charitable donations come from?
  14. Fukudome Castro Aramis Dunn Soto Byrd Soriano DeWitt Works for me.
  15. And creating a hole. I'm not disagreeing with you, but putting Colvin in RF and signing a 4th OF would alleviate some money issues for a 1B. It downgrades the team too much. They shouldn't have to move Fukudome if they want to sign Dunn. They only have to move Fukudome if they want to sign Dunn AND make unnecessary pitcher signings.
  16. They don't have to spend on much else if they go with Dunn.
  17. Even subtracting the "anything can happen" thinking, you'd still have a team that was competitive for the entire season and actually made the playoffs. That goes much further when it comes to selling merchandise and tickets the following season than a team that farts it's way weakly to the end of the season and was out f it in the summer.
  18. Save the money for what? Even the 88 and out scenario you described would make the Cubs more money in the near future than just "saving it for the farm." Avoiding signing players 30 and up is pointlessly shortsighted. The key is signing the right players who are 30 and up.
  19. There's absolutely no reason to not both focus on improving the farm and improving the team through trades and FA signings. Attempting to do the former at the expense of that latter would just be stupid.
  20. That's a ridiculously simplistic view of how to put together a good team. It's also ridiculous because it would require the Cubs to effectively tank at the ML level for an indefinite period, which would be disaster at this point.
  21. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/forum/topic?f=6&t=58457 So about $116 million? I guess what will be key is how much "slightly less" will be.
  22. So what's the payroll going into 2011 as it stands right now?
