  1. Does Prior count? Though that was more stupidly calling him a [expletive] and weak as opposed to lazy.
  2. Soriano was a bad contract from day one, and just about everyone here thought so. Ditto Werth, Zito, Howard, Wells, etc. Wow, I couldn't have asked for a more perfect post proving my "Soriano has left Cubs fans traumatized"-theory if I had begged for one. How are those guys an argument against signing Fielder or Pujols? People knew those were bad contracts because they'd never give you the top shelf production that could justify the backend expense.
  3. Guzman and Kaplan both have existed in the last 8 years. I have absolutely no idea how to find Kaplan's comments about him. Unless you are him and know this isn't so, in which case do you find Hollandsworth's new dome flattering?
  4. I think there's a certain amount of systemic racism in the way players are perceived, yes. So now we lump Demp in? What pattern has he established?

  6. If you describe enough Latin players as lazy while you haven't hated a white player since 2002, then it starts to become a pattern. How many is "enough". I know we've got Z and Ramirez so far. Soriano. Soto.
  7. LOL Zambrano IS hot tempered and fiery. You going to dispute that??? Pointing that fact out isn't automatically racist. No, but compounded with the rest of his track record it is. Kaplan likely automatically views Z's personality as the result of his genetic heritage as opposed to his individual personality. Y'know, the "oh, of course HE'S like that"-sort of thing.
  8. It's not racism how he dislikes players who are bad. It's racism how he inevitably falls on racial stereotypes to describe them. So if a Latin player truly is lazy, and I observe this personally, would it be racist for me to describe him as lazy? Hint: there's another explanation besides racism here. Nope. Using it seemingly as a default criticism, however, is rather telling.
  9. Not even close. A fired football coach doesn't fix what happened to those kids. If anything, it distracts from Sandusky. I agree with the firing, but justice? Give me a [expletive] break How does it distract from Sandusky? The guy is a kid raper; he's already the ultimate villain and he's going to pay the price for it. It's not like his case is going to fall by the wayside because of this firing. Whose face is on ESPN right now? The guy who was going to get to retire before he was rightly fired. Sandusky has been caught and isn't going anywhere. Paterno was getting all the attention because nothing had happened to him.

  11. This is asinine. The fact that he thought Todd Hundley was a jerk does not disprove anything. No, he thought he was a worthless teammate and a bad player. Which, in fact, he was. Nothing to do with race with Hundley. Now you're getting it.
  12. He covers the Latino stereotype spectrum by calling Z both lazy and hot tempered and fiery.
  13. Good.
  14. I really think this is Kaplan. You can smell the enraged flopsweat through the message board.
  15. YOU LOOK LIKE A DONG.
  16. Holy [expletive]. PLEASE BE KAPLAN.
  17. And hey, look, we've found Kaplan's one fan.
  18. I have seen the term thrown around by a select few on this board with regards to Cubs fans in general. Pretty broad brush to paint with, no? And this has nothing to do with Kaplan. And if Kaplan was a racist like some on this board toe the line on, what the hell is he posing with a (gulp) Pujols jersey for? Because he's not some overt Klan member; he just lets the inherent racism of our society color his opinions of players he doesn't like. He despised Todd Hundley. Of course, he was hispanic, so you might be on to something. I'll make this as clear as I can: Kaplan's "racism" stems from his repeated fallback to stereotypical criticisms of non-white players (lazy, doesn't care, gives up, etc.).
  19. Again, we're talking about a decade here. The "waiting/assuming something would be/had been done" line of thought doesn't fly at all.

  21. It's not a "bad contract" for the duration of the contract, hence the advantage when a team can take the hit of the last couple of years after reaping the benefits of the good years.
  22. Either player is going to get the biggest contract in Cubs history. It'd be the biggest "bet" the team has ever made. And? Any big contract is a gamble.
