  1. Because I didn't care about the rest. I took that interview as an obviously tongue-in-cheek response/hypothetical, because God help us if it isn't. You cannot strive to make a team like that because you WILL fail at least 9 times out of 10. Sounds like a sound discussion technique. I didn't read it, so why am I going to respond to it? Seriously, you can't possibly think what he was talking about in that interview was sound OR realistic.
  2. but is shanghai-ing them in AAA the answer, especially when you're obviously rebuilding? No, there's a nuance involved. If you want to stockpile prospects at the deadline, that's not the worst outcome. Use the rest of the season to evaluate, then decide what areas you want to try to fill from within, and use the rest to get assets that can potentially fill those holes. Use your haul from dealing Dempster/Garza to get you Headley, use Vitters and Jackson to make a run at King Felix. Those are rudimentary examples, but you get the idea. There's more than one avenue with prospects, not just Buy and Hold. Right. A strong system allows to have a multi-front attack on building a team, not just expecting/hoping/praying that you develop all or most of your key players internally.

  4. I think by next season, Rizzo has helped ease some of the concerns about him. To me, the only 3 you're breaking in are Brett, Vitters, and Castillo. Granted, I actually searched for a few "veterans" to provide some semblance of stability, but didn't really see any that made sense for us. Could definitely see us having a few more stopgap guys than what I have listed. As for the pitching, other than Turner, in this case, everyone else has shown an ability to be decent at the big league level. Added a 6th guy, thought about adding a 7th or 8th as well, but I figure we'll do that on minor league deals. My point though, is I think they want to suck again. And the 2 years of extremely high picks and huge IFA budgets are the reason. That alone should give us plenty of ammo to use for trades and finding an impact guy or two for us as well. And I think the Soriano contract, though through 2014 will be accounted for, by doing this, as paid in full with 2013 budgeted payroll. I just...I don't...what the hell kind of operation do you think they're running? They're not sorcerers; you can't rely on prospects that much. I don't disagree, but Theo has hinted that that's exactly what he wants to do. No, it's not. Having a strong farm system doesn't equate to building a team that relies almost completely on prospects.

  6. Yeah, it really is baffling the sheer number of people who seem convinced that so many prospects are going to break the right way for the Cubs.
  7. I called him out on twitter last night for this crap. Good thing you never indulge in such hyperbole here.
  8. The "youngsters can still struggle" even if they're making moves to improve at positions where we have no "youngsters." Jesus Christ. There's not some kind of multidimensional algorithm that reacts to how bad the Cubs can be for a sustained period of time.
  9. And here we are at the "but we'll waste a WHOLE YEAR" argument again.
  10. Trying too hard, too inexplicably grammatically perfect...this is a weak rawdogging.
  11. Why do you insist on saying so many punchable things?
  12. "To a degree?" Fangraphs has him at 7 WAR and worth about $28 million.
  13. I'm going to assume you were parodying yourself and applaud.
  14. Too bad they didn't hold on to Marlon Byrd to sweeten the pot.

  16. Over/under until Aramis Fan starts complaining about Rizzo?
  17. I like you ask that like you just assume everyone else is miserable if they go to a Cubs game this year. So help me higher power, I hope you get clobbered by a foul ball right in the nuts the next time you go.
  18. Yeah, you wanna pick your spots, but the talk where people are hemming and hawing about hypothetical FA signings like, "oh, LORD, if they sign so-and-so then they'll waste A YEAR!" or [expletive] like that is ridiculous. It's rare when everything falls into place like that, and this is a big market team; they can take the hits of a wasted year. If you're waiting for everything to line up you're just going to end up waiting 9 times out of 10.
  19. A dash of shitty sweetener to a shitty, shitty pot filled with [expletive].
  20. OK, let's wait until our internally developed players are good to sign good FA's. Whoops, crappy FA market! Well, can't really justify paying big contracts to our internally developed players...the timing isn't just right... DO-OVER!
  21. That's a perpetually self-defeating plan.
  22. Vitters is a huge "if," and even Jackson is pretty questionable. Slow down.
