  1. They're just going to loop this: TOPICAL!
  2. Doesn't matter, you guys. Don't beat yourselves up.
  3. Debt servicing could technically be considered part of the budget and push the total higher. While I'm not sure that still would make the total expenditures higher, since revenue also is down, maybe as a ratio it's higher. None of us have ever seen a MLB budget from top to bottom and few of us would even be equipped to understand it fully, so I don't think you can really say horsepoop in response. "All these documents are yours. The people's property, you pay for it! But because the Ricketts considers you children who might be too disturbed or distressed to face this reality, or because you might possibly lynch those involved, you cannot see these documents for another seventy-five years. I'm in my early forties, so I'll have shuffled off this mortal coil by then, but I'm already telling my eight-year-old son to keep himself physically fit, so that one glorious September morning, in the year 2038, he can walk into the Triangle Building across from Wrigley, and find out what the Ricketts and Sam Zell knew! They might even push it back then, hell it may become a generational affair, with questions passed down from father to son, mother to daughter, but someday, somewhere, somebody will find out the damn truth."
  4. Love the beard and love that he's been the Rays' bench coach. Give me Martinez or give me a landmine.
  5. Seems like a lot depends on the renovations. And the prospects. Right, and it's kinda freaky that I'm more confident in the latter playing out successfully before the former. Basically I think the Ricketts sold Theo on this job with a combo of rebuilding the farm system and the Cubs overhauling their finances and the stadium much as the Sox were able to do while Theo was there. I think it was presented as something that would be well underway at this point.
  6. A different kind of bad is still bad. Still pretty sure that Theo bolts after 5 years unless [expletive] works out damn near perfectly, because this money nonsense looks fuuuuuuuuucked for a while.
  7. Seriously, the Cubs Convention should end up like the storming of the Bastille.
  8. Holy [expletive]. The Cubs have terrible owners, you guys.
  9. Alright, the WS' terrible ability to evaluate talent most of the time has me convinced that fat load status is a go. Or it better be, because him being awesome across town will suuuuuuuck.
  10. Elias is basically the stereotypical Cardinal fan. Yep, he used to make creepy Youtube videos talking about the Cardinals like a [expletive] psycho. Plenty of overreactions to relatively meaningless losses, strange love affairs with gritty players like Eckstein and Aaron Miles, but the worst was his video he made after Edmonds signed with the Cubs. He eventually took the video (along with all the others he made) down, but someone posted a Desipio recap of the video on the last page. http://www.desipio.com/?p=1474 *SIGH*
  11. There is enough lament to go around.
  12. Terrifyingly sexy.
  13. I sure as [expletive] wouldn't want to stick around. Don't see anything wrong with that.
  14. Yeah only hot bears take it in this thread.
  15. *High fives with that dumb ass foam bear claw*
  16. I appreciate that you saw the folly of your ways.
  17. It's a risk-reward thing, because if they Vitters, then you've got an even bigger problem for next year. Might as well never bring them up. Or just do it when you think so for baseball reasons and not for a cheap boost. Yeah, but they could always "Vitters" regardless of how ready they may seem.
  18. It's a risk-reward thing, because if they Vitters, then you've got an even bigger problem for next year. Might as well never bring them up.
  19. Let's hug beards and think of Jay.
  20. Don't get all sweaty over a stellar Old Style callback.
  21. That's because you're a weirdo.
  22. Yes yes, we all want our offense to outscore the opposing team's offense and we all wonder if it will from week to week. Every single fan in every single city. Well, the only thing that matters is what's on the scoreboard, ah-doy.
  23. Oh, recent history. You are a fickle mistress. Last year and the year before have nothing to with this year. At least we can compare the start of this season with the start of last season. Sure we can, because the [expletive] NFL is the [expletive] NFL or whatever.
  24. Basically for me it comes down to since the schedule just gets tougher many of us are wary that a developing offensive system will be able to overcome what the defense is going to be facing.
  25. Oh, recent history. You are a fickle mistress.
