  1. only an everyday player so way more fun i love him Funk yes.
  2. Doesn't he provide more value at 2nd though? Obviously, he could get pushed to CF later by Baez or Russell but that might not happen for a couple seasons. OF seems like a one way trip for him unless his ceiling is a supersub type. If that's what the future holds, adjusting to CF shouldn't be that difficult. Why not just play him in CF now? One of the advantages of already having a season that's written off.
  3. Cubs dugout side, like 10 rows back behind it. *SIIIIIIIIGH* Brighter times await us Yeah, but, fingers crossed, I'll be moving back east before next season. Oh well. well that's depressing Eh, we'll still have the tickets and places to stay, so I'll be back plenty once they're good...just kinda bummed that they were so terrible for what turned out to be my last few years here for a while. I hope they string some fun wins together this season so I can get some in.
  4. [expletive], that's how that started? I had a family wedding that day, so I didn't see any of it until the reception and it was already like the 3rd. Kinda had the meatball doom boner going with the the way the series had already gone, so I took a LOT of advantage of that free bar.
  5. He'll show up bringing wine coolers and balloons and everyone's favorite cookies.

  8. It's my invention, dammit. He looks like a less swollen Robert Z'Dar.

  10. And then him doing what he did in that video I posted Oh, I was there and it was glorious. Man, I moved here in early 2007, so those first two years I went to a ton of Cubs games and thought I was in for a ride of awesomeness. Since 2010 I've been to like 10 games and I live like 20 minutes away. I, too, was there. In 08, I was cursed for the first like 6 games I went to. They were 1-5 when they basically had lost like 6 games (and probably won around 25) at home all year. Then as the year went on I don't think I saw them lose again for another 12. Got to be there when they clinched at home in '08; easily the greatest game I've ever been to.

  12. I was so excited when we brought him over with the Ichiro/Hideki Matsui hybrid comps. YES, THIS. That's remember hearing more than once; I think SI did a pretty big write up about him basically saying the same thing, too.
  13. I was so excited when we brought him over with the Ichiro/Hideki Matsui hybrid comps. pecota promised me he was going to be a .300/.400/.500 guy. i'm still bitter. That was meph i am pretty sure you are joking but this still made me question my memory so i had to check. http://viewfromthebleachers.com/blog/2007/12/15/projecting-fukudome/ pecota had him at .289/.401/.504. It seemed like he got favorable projections and comparisons left and right; I remember being so damned excited when they got him and watching clips of him playing in Japan. Boo.
  14. The idea that Junior Lake existed in 2008 is baffling to me.
  15. Three car pile up. A good point undercut by some dude randomly dropping his resume on us.
  16. We've all been there. Me, I'm usually there, so who am I really to judge?
  17. Is this thing going to get moved to a different thread?
  18. I'm not lecturing you, man; it was a good thing you saw what had happened and talked about who messed up it was. Thanks for the apology. I'm just replying to people like David and now Tim, who always seem to pop up wherever these types of discussions merge and try to explain it away or shrug it off. imb nailed it when he talked about how he was kind of taken aback by seeing someone use "rape" like that and how it made him feel, and I think that pretty much sums up how a lot of how things have shifted in the better in that regard. I wasn't aware I had such a reputation. I completely understand what you're saying but I seriously don't see how the in-congruence between the two examples is such that one is clearly bad and the other is acceptable. Well, you do now, because you managed to be That Guy. Obviously I'm not tagging you as some kind of "men's rights" nuts, but it's odd how this type of counterpoint always comes up. It's kind of a spin on the whole "I don't like it when things get political" non-point...or maybe it's just being contrary for the hell of it. Lord knows I've done that enough myself. Bottom line is that the word "rape" carries a lot more current and varied baggage than words like "murder" or "kill." Like I said, there's been a lot of very public discussion and debate lately about how women are treated or depicted or the lack thereof, and a lot of that has been in regards to how women are treated specifically based on their sexuality, or what is expected of them sexually, and how fear or avoidance of harassment or assault or worse is a such a prevalent thing even just on an everyday basis. Obviously being murdered is a horrific outcome, but "rape" is an even more loaded word that carries a lot of meaning because of how the act is so skewed in terms of a gender power dynamic. It's representative of a whole lot more than just rape. If you don't want people to say "that ball was murdered!" or "he killed that one" or whatever, that's your call. But it's simply not the same context and they don't carry the same weight.
  19. That's cool; he can watch it with me on the teevee box.

  21. Murder is equal opportunity. Rape skews reeeeeeeeeallllllllllly far one way in terms of who is doing it and who it happens to. People being more sensitive to the flippant and casual use of the word just reflects the growing and welcome recognition of the inequality that a lot of people are realizing. It's pretty cool.
  22. OK, let's not call it a stealing a base too to see how far you're going to take this silly bit of "it's just as bad." The use of "rape" reflects pretty big discussions going on right now as to how women are regularly mistreated in everyday society even by men who have no idea that they're doing it. Nobody's a fan of murder, but it's a pretty broad and universal concept, whereas "rape" brings a pretty specific image to mind. But someday we'll call it a murderdeathkill and all use the three seashells.
  23. i definitely don't disagree but along this line of thinking we should also probably never use the terms "murder" or "kill", either. when it comes down to it it's just irresponsible use of language, i guess. Noooooooooooooope. Not the same.
  24. Completely.
