  1. Unless Rose betted on baseball as a player, it shouldn't matter what he did as manager. Don't allow him to work in baseball, or make money from baseball, but don't make light of what he did as a player. Yes he's scum (or so was Ty Cobb among others), but being a scum doesn't make him any less of a great ballplayer. The HOF is already a joke with at least 10 to 15 players (if not more) in the HOF is are not legit HOFers, so keeping Pete Rose and for that matter Shoeless Joe Jackson out of the HOF continues to make the HOF illegitimate and a fraud. What's the difference if he was a player or a manager? He has far more control over the outcome of the game as a manager. People always say "but he only bet on the Reds to win". That is still compromising the integrity of the game. Ty Cobb has nothing to do with this. It's not about what's right and wrong it's about the integrity of baseball.
  2. If you go to MLB.com and look up the all time hit leaders Pete Rose is listed number 1. Nobody is ignoring his accomplishment. They just aren't honoring him for it and why should they? Pete Rose disgraced and disrespected the game. He only stopped lying about betting on baseball when he wrote a book and wanted to promote it. He is nothing but an opportunist that broke the cardinal rule in baseball. I am perfectly fine with the way things are. Pete Rose is the all time hits leader and is documented as such but he definitely doesn't deserve to be celebrated.
  3. No, but last night's game was winnable. They could have had a legit shot at taking the series today. Now they have a possibility of getting swept.
  4. Lou just said in the post game that he could use Fox as a backup C.
  5. Isn't that exactly what he said? That Dempster argued about the strike zone, and as a result, the umpire retaliated by being even more resistant to calling close pitches strikes. Then, once Dempster left, the grudge was gone, so we started getting some calls. I was just thinking about how much I miss seeing Lou sprint out onto the field towards the umpire, yelling and throwing his hands in the air. The bad calls were prior to the exchange. How was the ump holding a grudge with the zone prior to Dempster saying something?
  6. The ump started calling the corner as soon as Demp left the game. I think he really pissed him off during their little exchange in the fourth. As for Lou's managing, I would be really interested to hear what Trammell thinks of some of these moves. Anybody have an idea as to what kind of "veto" influence a bench coach has in these borderline situations? I think (and hope) that Trammell would disagree with some of these but decide it's not his place to offer a contrary opinion. Lou had me scratching my head all game today; I have to believe that not all of the coaching staff were in support of Ascanio hitting for himself before leaving in favor of Cotts. Their little exchange in the fourth was because he wasn't calling the corner.
  7. That was unbelievable. Would it kill someone on this team to show some fire? Z should start punching people in the dugout. I nominate Cotts, Patton, Miles, Heilman and Freel. Dempster did smash up the gatorade machine.
  8. I thought we were going to see a flashback to 07 when he blew his top on a third base call. But no.
  9. Lou was horrible tonight. The bench management was poor and he definitely should have argued a little more on the piss poor strike zone. Hell, Lilly got tossed and he wasn't even in the game. If his health is a concern then he needs to send Trammel or Rothschild out because that can make a difference. I noticed after Lilly's ejection the ump was calling the corner a lot more.
  10. I think the real question is how gritty are we now?
  11. This one is gold. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50rlRxOPfl8&feature=channel_page He tells about the classic confrontation of his 18 year old self facing a 14 year old pitcher.
  12. Dude, it's game 1 of the NLDS. Go enjoy Amsterdam tonight.
  13. Did anybody capture Comcast's retrospective vid with Eddie Vedder's song?
  14. Does anybody have a link to the tirade? I can't seem to find it
  15. It's definitely not a highlight but does anybody have the Ted Lilly glove slam clip?
  16. I would definitely have a problem with Bartman playing SS for us.
  17. He can't pitch himself into a save situation.
  18. Dude, don't steal my thunder.
  19. Chumley's, Joe's on 86th St., Ale Emporium, Fox and Hound or Champps should all have the game tomorrow in the Indy area.
  20. If he does get hurt will there be a plan B or are they just up the creek?
  21. It's funny that after the whole Prior and Wood fiasco that they venture down this path again...I hope it works out
  22. I thought after 15 days a player either had to go on rehab assignment or be back with the big club. Otherwise transferred to the 60 day. Would they send Reed to Iowa for the weekend? Would he accept that?
  23. Has everyone forgotten that one of our own ruptured a testy just a meare 2 years ago?
