  1. i'm thinking that bruney is the guy i want to bring into a bases loaded game too. but i am a cubs fan
  2. except fukudome is basically one of the three guys on the team with some form of actual patience. criticizing him for his lack of patience is just silly.
  3. he walked in his first at bat. agreed, nice patience fukudome So he never has to take a pitch again. Got it. you're fun

  5. oddly enough, their defense wasn't a problem tonight. it was purely goaltending. i can't think of one really good scoring chance the habs had, but varlamov did indeed lose that for them. as much as halak stole that, varlamov should have kept them in it early on. if the caps play like that again, though, they'll make it to round 2.
  6. i get why we claimed him...harrold is a 7th dman/13th forward and i want to say there were concerns about drewiske at the time, but i can't remember when he got claimed exactly. lombardi didn't want to rush anyone into a crappy role. the only problem with him was his usage. he is a 12 minute a night defender. he got, i'm gonna guess, around 18+ minutes on some nights. i think he was 4th in ice-time in game 1, but i haven't seen the numbers for the other 3 games he played. it's really a shame that davis drewiske got hurt early in the season. he was really solid to start the year and had a nice finish to last year. basically the anti-jones. plays safe, makes smart plays at the blue line in the offensive zone, gets the puck out of trouble. after he got hurt, he never found his groove again though. he looked really shaky every time he was on the ice. if he stays healthy all season, we probably don't have to deal with jones in the playoffs. quick, honestly, was pretty bad after game 1. even in game 2...we could have had that in regulation if he didn't blow the first goal for sure, and i think he could have even played the 2nd goal better. he was very good for about 2/3 of the season, but it seemed obvious to everyone watching that he was just run into the ground. murray overused him badly. i guess i don't blame him, getting into the playoffs was the goal this year. i just don't see why he was so opposed to using ersberg. i can only think of one solid game he had after the olympic break. game 1 was pretty much it. eta: i meant to say, the 'nucks dominated the play throughout the series. at 5 on 5, they beat us so badly. goals were like 20-7 at 5 on 5 or some ridiculous stat like that. we actually outplayed them, finally, in game 6. goaltending did cost us though.
  7. luongo basically took that series back from the kings. for all the talk about how he might have been weak in games 2 and 3 or weak down the stretch, without him playing at his best, the kings probably win this series going away. don't get me wrong, the 'nucks dominated the play, but he made 3 critical saves that basically either kept his team in it or literally saved the game. lots of goalies might be able to make those saves, but he actually did. meh. in a shock to no one, kings go 0-4 with randy jones on the ice in the playoffs.
  8. congrats to keith on (eventually) winning the norris this year. he deserves it i think.
  9. i remember back before he broke out offensively that the only reason he was in AAA/MLB was because of his defensive ability/ability to catch games. one of the most mystifying things in sports, to me, is how a specific skill of a specific player can get overrated based on the rest of his skillset. koyie hill and geovany soto are the perfect poster children for this stupid phenomenon. koyie hill can't hit, so he must be amazing defensively! soto can hit, so he sucks defensively and hill is way better! i just can't imagine any other justification. soto has been solid defensively for as long as i can remember and is probably at least as good as koyie hill. taking him out for defense is just perplexing on so many levels.
  10. ugggh defense. really bad. can't do that with a dangerous team like the canucks, way too loose.
  11. LMAO welp, i love watching a trainwreck. this season just got fun.
  12. all i'll say about the disallowed goal is that it was really really close and that i was really really happy with the call. great call refs! several more like it pls. didn't like the way we played in the third but i'll take it. luongo looked awful.
  13. LMAO the sharks are just incredible at losing. if i were a sharks fan at this point, it would almost be past the point of disappointment and to the point of sheer hilarity. i can't imagine a better (worse?) way to lose a game.
  14. i think hobbits are probably taller than theriot. regardless, that one really wasnt very close. not often you see a strike call blown on a straight fastball. rough day for the bats, but we had that game won until lou put his fat fingers all over it.
  15. washington has closed the gap to 3 runs against milwaukee.
  16. pitch 1: inside fastball pitch 2: hanging curve, catcher set up inside pitch 3: over the middle of the plate sorry, that's the wrong approach to him and it's been their approach all series. that's why he's hot. if the mets pitch him the same way, he'll stay hot. if they don't, well, we'll see if he can actually lay off the pitch away.
  17. What about the Brewers? He was 3 for 7 against them. off the top of my head, 2 of those hits were off a lefty (davis, i think). he should hit lefties pretty well because they don't have a pitch similar to the slider righties throw at him that makes him spin out of his shoes. maybe a lefty with a good sinker would give him fits, but that isn't doug davis. eta: only one of those hits was off of davis. 2/5 for the rest of the series. he still wasn't showing much (to me) on the pitch away in that series but the astros haven't even tried to pitch him away. i'll take it though. The other hit that game was when a righty threw a fastball on the middle/inside of the plate. Missed his location, the first pitches he fanned at were outside. That's all wonderful but the fact remains that he isn't only hitting because of the Astros as you tried to say. except...well...he is. they're pitching him inside which is the wrong approach against him even when he's hot. let's see how they pitch him in the 7th. i don't know how many times he's batted with runners on vs. no runners in this series, maybe they just don't trust their catcher to block the ball in the dirt. it's still hard for me to fathom.
  18. Soriano's only hitting because the Astros apparently don't have or believe scouting reports. He still can't hit anything on the outside What about the Brewers? He was 3 for 7 against them. off the top of my head, 2 of those hits were off a lefty (davis, i think). he should hit lefties pretty well because they don't have a pitch similar to the slider righties throw at him that makes him spin out of his shoes. maybe a lefty with a good sinker would give him fits, but that isn't doug davis. eta: only one of those hits was off of davis. 2/5 for the rest of the series. he still wasn't showing much (to me) on the pitch away in that series but the astros haven't even tried to pitch him away. i'll take it though.
