  1. first big move of the day: Gonchar to Ottawa. 3 years/5.5m cap hit with a NTC. also: Biron to NYR, Coburn re-signs in PHI, Meszaros to PHI for 2nd rounder, Alex Tanguay to CGY.
  2. andy strickland/james mirtle both say that andrew ladd is still being shopped. hard to tell if he's actually being shopped or if lots of teams are just inquiring, but just throwing that out there.
  3. holy cow that was a ridiculous shot
  4. Says you. It makes for interesting chat, trying to figure out Versteegs value. I do agree that a 1st is overpayment for Versteeg, but the Hawks got a first for Buff and he's less talented then Versteeg and they were abe to get a 1st and a2nd for him. So who knows, maybe Vancouver is subscribing the theory of "if you can't beat them, get them to join you." versteeg is more talented but byfuglien was coming off a completely value-inflating playoff run. those sites aren't worth paying attention to because they don't gauge value. i don't doubt that eklund and possibly even the nhlsources guy have some actual inside info, but they disperse it so poorly that they aren't worth taking seriously or paying attention to for anything beyond derisive laughter.
  5. Is that going to be a problem? Or just a delay in the process. again, just going by mckenzie, it sounds like a delay more than anything. says the hawks could hold out aliu until a point in time when the rest of the deal could be completed. the thrashers could just move another body.
  6. So is Ecklund yet that site has gotten three moves correct in as many days. that doesn't mean either should be paid any attention. aaaand yay keith. deserved it. figured he'd win it from about january on.
  7. nhl sources say is garbage
  8. they wouldn't block it, there just hasn't been an official "trade call" yet. just means the teams haven't finalized it, and that everything we've heard so far is just agreed to in principle. some speculation was, as mentioned, that the teams were waiting for league personnel to land in LA. i've also heard that they're just waiting for the awards show to end. just kind of strange for it to be delayed for so long. eta: mckenzie just tweeted that it's because this trade puts atlanta over the 50 contracted players limit, so now it's just a matter of them waiving or trading someone.
  9. this deal does bail out the hawks, though not completely. regardless of "bailing them out" or not, a first for byfuglien is not a good deal. he had a great playoff run but he has been pretty mediocre throughout his regular season career. granted, it's only a 24th overall pick, but i just don't see why you'd give that up for buff.
  10. according to bob mckenzie the trade isn't official yet for some reason, sounds like there's some hold up.
  11. The big guys thing is what concerns me. We're going to get knocked around a little bit this season. you can get someone to do what eager does for league minimum. he might not be quite as effective as eager, but if eager was even worth 1 game either way this year i'd be stunned. value wise this seems like a great trade for the hawks.
  12. man, that was awesome
  13. 11.3 penalty minutes per game? Does that sound excessive to anyone else? That's over 5 penalties per game. with fighting majors, matching minors, 10 minute misconducts? 11.3 is probably awfully low on the whole.
  14. holy cow colvin. that was like barry bonds territory way up there.
  15. i never heard a whistle but it did get extremely loud after the puck rolled along the line. that's where i'm sure the "intent to blow" rule comes into play.
  16. high school's not even young enough, let's go with elementary school i dunno might be too young. feels more like middle school to me.
  17. there was not one called "what if toews stayed home?" there was one for seabrook i think, for his two goal performance against vancouver. which makes sense. since he's a defenseman.
  18. almost makes up for the all those atrocious "history will be made" commercials. what is wrong with you
  19. hardcorecubfan wears a bracelet that says mister m
  20. no. no one had to say it. no one ever has to say that.
  21. it felt like i was watching zambrano on opening day in that inning. i love it.
  22. that was one of the worst defensive plays i have ever seen and nabokov looked like he had never seen a pass come out from behind the net before. murray made no play at the puck, boyle missed him completely, the forwards just released him...awful. how you let that happen in OT is just mystifying. i really don't like saying the word "choke" because it diminishes the way the other team played, but man it's hard to come up with anything else for the way the sharks are playing. it's like they just can't get it out of their heads that they're supposed to be bad in this moment, even with the "exorcism" they performed on themselves against detroit. the hawks have played great, no question. good enough to be winning the series at the very least. however, at times, the sharks have kept up or even outclassed them. why they can't string it together for the majority of a game suddenly is just baffling. how can you have such critical mental lapses in such huge moments? just terrible. btw, i'll keep picking against chicago in the finals. congrats on the cup.
  23. i don't think you could make a worse choice than darren mccarty for a regular analyst if you're VS. looked like a legit icing call to me...
  24. there have been bad calls in this game, but that one is legit. bad penalty by bolland.
  25. ehhh it looked like he missed it. shots from that high without a screen directly in front should be stopped though. i saw it time and time again with jon quick, he would go down too early on shots from out high and have it go over his glove. it's not a HORRIBLE goal as it was a perfectly placed shot, but you really need that save if you're the sharks. they came out and controlled the play pretty well, but still ended up giving up the first goal. that's always a killer.
