  1. Fielded a high bouncer barehand with two on and nobody out (no worries, it wasn't going fast enough to do any damage like the ones Z barehands), wheeled around and started a DP. Then mowed down the next guy on 3 pitches to end the game. Pretty awesome.
  2. I want the Opening Day thread, Vance!
  3. Sick. My man-crush on Wood figures to grow with more ABs like the last two.
  4. There are batters better equipped to come through in the clutch than others. The vast majority of the time, those batters are the ones who are better hitters anyway. That's what I have determined after a long time of researching the matter.
  5. The fans picked the Office Depot ad for the Cubs to come onto the field to this season. The lesson, as always: Never leave anything up to the fans. Ever.

    The NBA thread

Bulls can go ahead and lose out now
  7. I acknowledge your discovery of that tidbit, Rob.
  8. Yeah Theriot is another Neifi except he plays all out and doesn't make stupid boneheaded mistakes. And Theriot scored 80 runs last year. If he batted leadoff all year he would score 110. Thats not worthless. Theriot isn't great by any stretch of the imagination but he has okay. You can't have a Sori or anything close to it at every position. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What would you put an "OK" player in the slot that sees the most AB's? "Plays all out" means zilch. And please explain how Theriot is "mistake-free" and Neifi was making them left and right in such stark contrast? THEY'RE BOTH AWFUL BASEBALL PLAYERS WHO SHOULD NOT START. Who should bat lead off instead??? Yet to see you suggest one. We just don't have a better option. DeRosa. Fukudome. Soriano. Any hitter on this 25-man roster, save perhaps Pie (keep the pressure off him) and Fontenot is a better option than Theriot.
  9. Same reason DeRosa isn't hitting leadoff. They both make far too much more sense than Theriot doing it.
  10. Good Michigan State over Memphis pick, Andy. *pats self on back*
  11. hahahaha that was an awesome sequence of events by Soriano
  12. If it makes you feel better Cubbies, I like the Tate George version of that ad much better. I think they need more of those though. Bryce Drew, Ty Rogers, that dude from NW State, Danny Ainge (barf) for starters.
  13. You've always got your graduation rate, Constable.
  14. I can't get my head around the Hyundai Lead-Off Man. I've been watching this show for 8 years and now they slap Hyundai on it? Barf
  15. After all that's gone right in my bracket for the first 5 1/2 days, Texas just goes off and that's it. I stupidly had the Cardinal in the title game and now I'm done.
  16. There's not going to be anyone rooting for Kansas on Sunday night.
  17. They're cut-blocking cheap-shot artists, their former CB ran his mouth off to Steve Smith all the time, their former dog-murdering QB had magical powers against my team to the point where he literally levitated 5 yards across the goal line for a game-winning TD that kept us out of the playoffs in 2004, and on top of that Delhomme got his season-ending injury against them last year. Apart from that, they're alright.
  18. I am guessing you are a Panthers fan. What's the deal at QB with you guys? Is everyone solidly behind Jake, or has everyone soured on him? Also, don't look now, but Tampa is having a really nice offseason. They may overtake Atlanta for my most hated team. Then again, no one sucks worse than the dirty birds. I think they're still behind Jake. In any case they won't pick a QB before the 3rd round, so it's unlikely anyone would be able to challenge him anyway. I believe his contract is up after this year, though - he looked great last year before his injury, but if he can't keep that up, they'll likely go the FA route in 09. Tampa's got a decent nucleus. If they can figure out which of their 7 quarterbacks will start they could be very dangerous. And I agree with you - I don't dislike any NFL team more than Atlanta.
  19. both. the prestige of the program is still mostly intact. i'd go so far as to say top 6. unc duke kentucky kansas ucla iu in no particular order. it's tough for me to argue for or against. i'm not close enough to the situation, but it seems that Indiana hasn't had an "elite" team in a long time, Mike Davis' Final Four run not withstanding. I mean, would you consider Penn State a top 10 prestige job in football? that's a tough one. it's going to be VERY interesting to see what happens when JoePa retires. knowing Penn State, they'll just promote a coordinator and completely rule out the idea of getting a marquee head coach from outside the system As football prestige goes, it's difficult to argue a basis, but based on overall program winning percentage, the following 10 programs are the most prestigious: Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Alabama, USC, Nebraska, Tennessee, Penn State. That leaves out programs like Florida State, Florida, Miami and LSU. And with the possible exception of Florida, I think it's fair to say that those last four remain on a lower tier than the first list (PSU and Tennessee can be argued but I'd say they are). There's a reason Les Miles carried on a long flirtation with Michigan before a contract extension kept him at LSU. The last four are consistently very good to great teams - the first list are brand names in college football.
  20. Tomorrow, I need Michigan State, Stanford and Kansas to win for my bracket. I also would like Davidson to win since that game's a sunk cost anyway. If MSU and Stanford win, making money will become highly likely for me since everyone has Memphis and Texas.
  21. 3/4 tonight. Thanks for turning the ball over 800 times Tennessee. I can still win probably all my pools, but making a splash nationally is probably out.
  22. Hahahahahahaha at WVU's inbounds defense there. 78-74 Muskies with 24 to play.
  23. Big shot Lavender. Ties it up with a minute-plus to go.
  24. Wow, Xavier sucked on that last possession.
