  1. All this offseason turmoil and very little from the big Florida schools, oddly enough
  2. 5. Mark Prior 2003, until Bob Gibson gets reincarnated, is likely to be the standard by which I measure all successful seasons by a Cubs starting pitcher. Hopefully Harden is as masterful as he was a week ago.
  3. It was a FOX game. McGwire has been helping out a number of players such as Schumacher. He wants to get into coaching, but knows that the time is not now. So, he is going to take the personal instructor approach until/if he is welcomed back. I can't remember it was either Kirkjian or Buster Olney who I heard mention this. Thank you. I know full well that it'd be unfair of the media to bring this sort of thing up in an accusatory tone (the whole witch hunt thing), but I'm still surprised they haven't.
  4. BTW, I guess a split would work for me too, but I'm scared to death of what kind of ridiculousness the Cards could perpetrate if they somehow snuck into the playoffs. I'll feel much easier about preferring to face Milwaukee over St. Louis if the Cubs play well at Miller Park next week, but I still lean towards wanting to keep a lucky franchise out of a crapshoot like the playoffs if I can.
  5. There's "improving" and then there's cutting a run and a half off your career ERA and leading the majors in wins and suddenly becoming an ace after being league average or worse your entire career. I'm talking about Kyle Lohse, BTW. And even though Braden Looper hasn't been spectacular or anything, I'm still waiting for his arm to fall off from the completely ridiculous uptick in innings he's had from any other year in his career prior to 07.
  6. I'm seriously beginning to wonder if I imagined that snippet I remember hearing an announcer (may have been McLaughlin or it may have been a Fox game) say about Skippy Schumaker working out with McGwire in the offseason back in April. Because I'm pretty sure I heard it and yet absolutely nothing has been made of it, if it is true. If a Cub spent the off-season working out with Sosa and then saw an increase in production, no matter how slight, I suspect it'd be a big deal. Does anyone else remember this being said, or am I crazy?
  7. I much rather Soriano get a game or two in the minors before being activated. I want Soriano back at 100%, not 85%. If Fonzie's at 85 I want him back. What I don't want is the utter disaster that he was when he came back in early May from his first injury.
  8. Well, if your team plays like crap, I'd much rather have an announcer who says so, rather than one who thinks the fans are idiots and tries to sugarcoat everything. This is why I will forever remain on the side of Chip Caray and Steve Stone during that whole 2004 mess. Agreed. Vasgersian just earned a few more points in my book. Awesome. I've never liked Vasgersian nearly as much as everyone else does, but I always feel bad for announcers stuck calling games for horrible teams. I enjoy the snark here and there.
  9. I turned off my MLBTV after Glaus gave STL the lead. Of course SD tied it only to let Aaron Miles hit a walk-off grand slam. This is the Cardinals. These things happen to them.
  10. You should change it for his 8 homers and .370+ OBP, not just his game today.
  11. As if to remind us that nothing is perfect, STL now has 2 on with Pujols pinch hitting.
  12. Now these are the Cubs I love. Sneaky power double. 6-0
  13. Given the team, the park and the minor bullpen struggles lately, I give Demp the 8th. I'd let Marshall finish it out. Who?
  14. The Cardinals lose? That's unpossible. Give it time. This is San Diego.
  15. The "umps trust Kosuke's eye" era lasted about 2 weeks.
  16. Fontenot now has more HRs than Fukudome.
  17. Rick Ankiel doubles in Miles to tie it. 1-1.
  18. Nice 1st inning. Hopefully Dempster keeps up his performance of late.
