  1. I was coming here to post something like this, but I see Truffle already summed it up pretty nicely.
  2. Thought they had at first glance, but Furcal did just beat it.
  3. Miles's OPS drops just 1 percentage point today with the walk, so he's now at .461.
  4. Ladies and gentlemen, it's the best time of the year. College football is back, the AP poll is out, and everyone's favorite threads are back on NSBB. 6. I see we've reached the point of the disappointing season where Fred starts being forced to pinch-hit for almost everyone. Haven't had that since the good old days of 06.
  7. Maybe the expectations weren't super high but there were expectations for that team. Until Derrek Lee went down we were doing ok. Not saying we would have been much better but there were a lot of injuries that year. It reminds me a little bit of how our starting staff keeps getting injured. I think we saw 17 starting pitchers that year....Mateo, Marmol, Ryu, Walrond, Marshall, Maddux, Zambrano, Hill, Guzman, Prior, Wood, O'Malley, Jerome Williams, Wade Miller, Rusch...I'm probably missing a few. I also remember the teams in the Central not looking particularly imposing that year. We know what happened with the Cardinals, but going into the season, the NL Central looked like the Cubs could win it. I still go back and forth on whether 2002 or 2006 was the more miserable season this decade. We had rookie stud Prior and still-a-starter Wood in 2002. We had clearly-broken-and-will-never-be-a-factor-again Prior and Wood in 2006. I think that swings it to 06 being more miserable. I know it shouldn't matter but the Cards winning it all that year definitely sucked too. We didn't have a whole lot of hope of any success in the near future in 06.
  8. If Ryno manages next year I can pretty much guarantee that the Cubs will have more stupid managerial decisions next year than this year.
  9. Been that kind of season when Brendan Ryan hits a grand slam in San Diego and Angel Guzman gives up a grand slam in L.A. within an hour of each other.
  10. Yep, bench Gorzo for a worse hitter and then Guzman comes out and lights himself on fire out there. Typical.
  11. LOL Cobs. That'll about do it for the season, I think.
  12. I know it's dumb to even bring it up, but Gorzo's OPS as a Cub is about twice what Miles's is. (.900 vs .462)
  13. I think their comfort level with each other is a huge factor. Len is very knowledgeable about the game, Bob isn't afraid to call it like he sees it (even if the way he sees it isn't always right), but without the comfort level they wouldn't be nearly as good as they are.
  14. What'd you expect with the great Joel Pineiro on the mound?
  15. Honestly, was anyone offering even close to 8/136 for that guy? Why did we give him so much money?
  16. On base percentage (OBP) and slugging percentage (SLG). OK....so what would a hitter like D Lee's OPS be?Lee's OPS entering tonight was .927. OBP of .376, SLG of .550.
  17. Yadier Molina just nailed his 2nd runner of the night, because apparently people still don't get that running on him is a stupid idea.
  18. LOL at Theriot. About 25 other shortstops would have made that a routine 6-3.
  19. Good lord, I just looked it up on Gameday to make sure you weren't making that up. I swear they're finding about every possible ridiculous way to score runs this year.
  20. Brendan Ryan's career OPS after the slam is .699. Hey Kosuke!
  21. Brendan Ryan grand slam. It doesn't matter where they are in the order.
