  1. The games were decreasing on WGN steadily anyway, but I do think the fact that the Trib is gone accounts for the stark drop in games this year. I think there were 70-some WGN games in recent years and this year there are under 60.
  2. It would really be nice if we could pull off the kind of run the White Sox just pulled out of their rear ends. This is the week to do it too, at home against Houston and a rival.
  3. Introducing my girlfriend to Wrigley today, the only way I know how: in the bleachers watching a crappy team. Please win, Cobs.
  4. Sam Smith says the Bulls signed Brewer. We are officially the Midwestern Jazz.
  5. Going for broke and using both post-ASG transactions immediately. Drop Markakis, add Vlad Guerrero. Drop McGehee, add Aramis Ramirez.
  6. Why? Because he had to go to another team to get his Pippen/Shaq? Whatever anyone's opinion of Pippen, he was never a top-4 player in the entire league like Dwyane Wade is. At best, LBJ and Wade are 1A and 1B. And for that matter, Shaq is a poor comparison too, because he was The Man on those first 3 Lakers teams, not Kobe. Pippen was one of about 10 active players named to the top 50 players in NBA history. He was seen very highly during his playing days. I suppose I should correct myself by saying that Pippen was probably looked at as a top 4 player for the 93-94 season, when he could've been MVP but for a ridiculous season by Olajuwon.
  7. I think the crux of the issue is what Flames said about LeBron being "King James" and "The Chosen One" and the center of an ad campaign informing us all that we were "witnesses". All this time James had everyone believing that he believed he was truly special, someone who would stake his claim as the best player since Shaq's prime ended. He either had to know or was completely ignorant of the fact that going to Miami would crush any chance of that happening, and either way it was disappointing for people who want our athletes to be committed to greatness and squeezing every ounce out of their potential.

  9. Yes. Dusty, as a Cub in 2003 managed after winning the 2002 pennant in San Fran. Yeah but Dusty was on a team in the same league. What if Dusty was unemployed for the 2003 season is what I'm saying? Hard to believe such a situation would arise unless a manager retired.
  10. Why would the Cubs get rid of him though? He plays good offense and good defense at a fairly premium position, and while he's not bargain-basement cheap, his contract is perfectly reasonable and it's 2 1/2 more seasons. There's not really any reason for the Cubs to dump him.
  11. The FO plays the situation right and he won't finish the season in a Cub's uniform. Why?
  12. Not really. We're still 11 games under .500 no matter how bad the White Sox and Cardinals players perform in this game.
  13. Probably because the Cubs kinda suck and don't deserve 2 All Stars. So because a guy's team sucks he shouldn't be recognized?
  14. I really wish Marmol were on the All-Star team now. It'd be something to see him come out in one of these last 3 innings and annihilate people. Why exactly isn't he on this team anyway? Dude has a really low ERA and is on pace to shatter the record for K/9 in a season (that was set by a guy on roids, no less).
  15. I liked both TBS teams in the LDS last year that didn't involve Dick Stockton or Chip Caray.
  16. Why are we arguing about the Cub in that ad when the bigger issue is that the Cubs are at home in that ad and the game is clearly being played indoors?
  17. I like Scully, but he's overrated, and anyone who thinks he's the only one who can pull off the one-man booth is not a Cubs fan. Hughes could do everything Scully does and possibly more if Santo wasn't already in the booth.
  18. Yes. I've officially offered to do Rose's job for 1/10 the salary and correctly identify the players involved.
  19. I absolutely love what the Bulls are doing. I think they've got a team now whose skills complement each other extremely well. It should be a lot of fun to watch. Having Korver/Redick, Gibson and James Johnson as the 6th-8th man isn't bad.
  20. I can't wait to have everyone on here rooting alongside me before the Heat poo all over the Celtics in the 2nd round. Talk about a "can both teams lose?" situation.
  21. Where would he play? Deng at 3, Boozer at 4, Noah at 5. He's not gonna be willing to come off the bench.
  22. I find it impossible to believe that he would have a live one-hour special to announce he was throwing another nail into the Cleveland sports coffin. Impossible. Those Windhorst tweets make me wonder though.
  23. I was up next prior to UMFan but I think Fred is probably good to just keep starting GDTs unless someone objects. It's not like the Cubs need my power of losing to keep their pathetic run going.
  24. No big-time FA is ever going to Atlanta, so for the Hawks that's probably their best move, sadly enough.
