  1. There's a subset of Cubs fans that are overly wedded to the prospect brigade, and another subset (which I'm begrudgingly on the fringes of) that doesn't think think this iteration of this team is likely to justify a win-now move. I'd like for things to be going better, but I can understand the POV of not wanting to make a move the way the season is playing out.
  2. I agree. Starlin's performance has been terrible but the last thing I want to see is Joe pile on.
  3. Of WC1, yes. But they're only 3.5 behind the Twins for WC2 (albeit with 3 other teams in between them).
  4. Basically this Tigers sucking streak is probably the worst case scenario for the Cubs long term. We probably would have better odds getting Price as a FA than we ever will in a deadline trade, especially with the recent struggles probably making the FO lukewarm on being huge buyers I may be misunderstanding your point, but from that POV wouldn't that be a good thing for possibly getting Price? He wouldn't cost a draft pick, which was a stated reason the FO was so excited to go get Lester. Unless you're saying you think whoever trades for Price would be able to lock him up long-term.
  5. Muskat said that Ramirez first felt the ab pain on a sneeze.
  6. They should. Even if (especially if) they're not getting rid of him, he needs a few days to collect himself anyway.
  7. Castro benched too, and Soler. It probably won't have much net effect but I'm glad Joe is at least trying something to shake things up.
  8. Well, SF is improbably losing, so maybe not. But we are well past the point of this offense being merely in a slump. They're just not good.
  9. I think I'm back to not wanting to buy. We're gonna be 3.5 out of the wild card and quite possibly falling.
  10. 2 days from the deadline and we run out this scrub. Should've just started Wood
  11. And apparently Stephen A Smith's report that he'd heard Brady destroyed his phone was actually accurate. Might be the biggest upset of the day.
  12. Gotta like the Royals sensing their opportunity and going all in. Hope it works out better than Oakland did. And also, obligatory 'good thing he's going to the AL' comment.
  13. The answer is both. Hopefully that 9th is the kick in the ass Joe needs to get our best relievers into better spots.
  14. I was literally starting a text to a friend about my hatred of Joe's bullpen management when the final alert came on my phone. So insane
  15. I'm still pessimistic on the whole but if anything is going to kick off a crazy win streak something like that will
  16. Lol for God's sake. Bullpen issues still are obvious but at least they got away with this one
  17. Motte and Grimm should switch roles as well
  18. If not for a couple of horseshit wins in Cincinnati we would be 3-11 in this stretch. Three and [expletive] eleven.
  19. Yes, you can blame Maddon. The writing has been on the wall regarding Motte since basically as soon as he arrived in his peripherals. And there was never a reason to sign Soriano let alone give him a big spot. Meanwhile Grimm languishes in low leverage early inning spots. It's Dustyish managing.
  20. Our bullpen WAS good until Joe started putting terrible pitchers into high leverage spots for absolutely no [expletive] reason at all
